y’all, i need your wisdom. what are some good ways to store magazines so that they don’t get wrecked? i have copies of the magazine i worked on in college, copies of real magazines, etc. that i want to store and am ignorant as to what the BEST PRACTICES for doing so are. thank you!
where would you be storing them? environmental/climate factors involved?
most likely my bedroom
climate is the suburbs of boston
these aren’t like collectables or anything — i could give less of a shit if they stay in perfect condition — i’d rather just have a better way to store them than how they’ve been for a while now, which is in a pile on a bookshelf
you can always just follow comic book storage protocol, in that case, right?
i always use shoeboxes

Get thee hence to a comic book store, ask for magazine boxes — they’re a different size from reg. comic longboxes.

Yeah, they’re shorter/wider/taller — built to hold roughly the same weight of paper as a comic longbox.

Ya but if it’s not full don’t you risk the magazines getting all slouchy and deformed? What about those bookshelf magazine holders you get at like Ikea?

I have several of those bookshelf magazine holders for keeping the archives of the magazine I work on — they’re better for getting at archived stuff more quickly as long as you have the shelf space for them, but they’re not stackable at all, not a good solution for long term storage of a huge amt of paper. Also much more expensive than mag boxes, which are great for long term storage, stack ’em in a closet and forget ’em. Maybe get a couple of silica gel packets for each box if you live in a damp climate. For a half full box, slouching paper can be a problem, but I stuck old t-shirts that I’d outgrown into the box to hold the magazines upright.
