He’s never made a great album. Buenas Noches From a Lonely Room has a killer first side and spotty second one. If There Was a Way comes closest but it’s too long. This Time has all the huge radio hits, most of which are melodic and lyrical wonders but rather wooden in the rhythm dept (“A Thousand Miles From Nowhere,” “Ain’t That Lonely Yet”).
but, really, you can’t go wrong with one of his comps or one of the first five records (all cheap and easy to find).
