daniel r u aware that u r in no way affiliated w/the miami heat
billups is still a very solid player btw, if the heat got him it would be absolutely game over why even play the season
It was v. v. weird to hear Cuban on the radio yesterday talking about having to completely change his relationship to spending money/contracts. Doesn’t really inspire confidence in me because there’s not much evidence that Cuban or his front office people are great at evaluating talent.
daniel r u aware that u r in no way affiliated w/the miami heat
ha! i know. curiously enough, a law school friend of mine has become the team’s general-counsel, which sounds like a dream job.
ask him for a job bro
her
i should!
lol girls cant be lawyers
btw dalembert is garbage, scores like 4pts a game for his opponents via goal tends, ive never seen anything like it, of course he is immediately by far the heats best center should he end up there
lol girls cant be lawyers
hahaha
ESPNSteinLine Marc Stein
Source close to process tells ESPN that, as long as Kings have enough cap room, they can sign and trade Dalembert even after renouncing him
15 seconds ago
i dont understand what this means, and other things, nba is driving me insane right now
He is technically a free agent, but until he signs elsewhere he is still “theirs” so I believe they can sign and trade him and not fall under the “can’t be traded for x days” rule any other team would be restricted by.
If they have enough space to sign him and trade him to someone like Dallas they could get back something in return, possibly freeing up some space for Dallas and getting a pick or something for their trouble.
can’t see what heat would offer, realistically, for dalembert, that would be of interest to kings. not giving them haslem or even miller for dalembert, i suspect.
if the heat get billups they could play me at center and win 60 games
Stein goofed by saying they “renounced him” because I’m pretty sure he was an unrestricted free agent. You only renounce RFAs.
got to think theres no way the heat get billups, another team will take him just to block the acquisition if necessary, one would think this scenario would hold for any other dude they desire
For $1 million he’s a fair chip to have, even if he doesn’t play for your team.
the thing no one wants to talk about is that it doesn’t matter what auxiliary players the heat pick up — they win the finals if lebron doesn’t turn into a zombie in the playoffs
Sadly true.
eh imho both the celtics and the bulls had sufficient defensive schemes to stop the heat last year bron just hit a bunch of bad three pointers and then returned to earth v dallas, having yr best three players not being able to shoot the three is nagl, which is not to say the heat cant win it, but their big weakness was to some extent exposed last year
srsly like fall away threes in the fourth quater of tight games, he swung like 4 games in two rounds
i’m more interested in the billups story for its connection to the broader war that’s been waged (beginning the second the CBA was ratified) between players and owners over player’s ability to choose their employers.
dirk didnt even play that well in the finals, dallas just dared the bulls to hit threes and they did not
which btw i predicted B-)
eh, heat will be a better three-point shooting team this year. and i think they may get better at the center position, too.
i mean the heat obvs xp B-)
why will the heat be a better three point shooting team exactly
Chauncey now saying he’ll take his ball and go home if he can’t pick his team. Mr. Big Shot acting like a five year old. Mr. Big Snot.
heat are v good, but not shoo-ins by any stretch. mavs proved it last year. being a top 2 team has never been a guarantee of a chip. even the jordan bulls were taken to 7 games on numerous occasions.
shrug, billups gets to make those decisions. it’s his life, his body, his talent, his choice.
lol nagl, do yr whining behind closed doors via yr agent like everyone else dofus
even the jordan bulls were taken to 7 games on numerous occasions.

assuming they get billups, he’s a good 3 pt shooter. and assuming mike miller can actually play some minutes. also if they get billups it will not matter if they can shoot the 3 because it would be a ridiculous upgrade on already the best team in the league
so assuming they become a better three point shooting team they will be a better three point shooting team
why will the heat be a better three point shooting team exactly
battier and (hopefully healthy) miller and house.
Ethan Skolnick @EthanJSkolnick — With Jones/Battier/Miller/House, Spoelstra has four shooters historically at 38 percent of better from 3.
lol ‘historically’
those guys are indeed historical
yes, if they sign the player with the best secondary percentage in the league and successfully rehab a player known as a sniper before he was injured, i would say they become a better 3 pt shooting team
xps joe
why would anyone think those things are going to happen tho
Joseph Goodman @MiamiHeraldHeat — #Heat center Eddy Curry says he lost 70 pounds. Looks like he needs to lose another 50.
i’m rooting for curry now, tho.
mike miller cant stay healthy and hasnt been able to for a while and billups doesnt play for them

and you realize they had three of those guys last year
i do not deny it.
and you still have to contend w/the fact that the guys on the heat who actually take all the shot dont shoot the three well
also it should be pointed out to all the miller apologists that even when hes been healthy over the last five or so years his usage rate has been laughably low, he either cant get open, doesnt want to shoot or more likely some combo of the two
i stand by my point that if the heat get billups the nba might as well not even play this season
i’m sure eddy curry has a ways to go no matter what — and maybe he’s washed-up beyond repair — but he looks much better than the last time i saw pictures of him. anyway, good for him, whether or not he can resume his nba career.
houston clearing space
WojYahooNBA — Rockets will have changes to their part of proposed 3-way deal, league sources tell Y! Sports. They’d be sending more players to Hornets.
going a little crazy, Richard Jefferson still on the spurs, mcdyess looks like he’s gonna retire but he ain’t said shit, and outside of duncan and splitter, our best dude over 6’10“ is made of pastrami sandwiches
jeff green will be a celtic again, though only on a one-year deal (thank god)
But very well compensated for that year.
wut is this all abt guys / freaking out over here https://twitter.com/#!/RajonRondo/status/145662381362642944
ah!
so are the new NYNets going to be dwight — nene — dwill?
Who knows? Coulda been talking about the UK game, could be sayin’ they’re gonna win because of David West, could be sayin’ he’s out the door, could be that his team won the scrimmage. Or he won in 2K12. Who knows?
xpost
rondo knows
I have a feeling nene is going to houston still, after the gasol deal
Maybe he’ll tweet it’s meaning and you’ll be okay.
guys this billups stuff is hilarious
I hope he retires and throws away money. Principles are important.

should Billups really be worried that some random lottery team is going to snap up his 13m salary this season?
pretty sure you’re gonna be a free agent, chaunce
why take a chaunce
they don’t have to pay it all! The high bidder—which could be for the vet’s minimum—gets his services. The Knicks pick up the difference between the bid and his guarantee.
ohhh that’s right sorry
he’s a UK guy, right? thinkin’ he’s talking about the wildcat loss today.
he = rondo
and yeah, high bidder gets billups, but high bidder has to pay something toward his old salary. so if billups makes clear he’ll retire if chosen by a below-cap team, it could give him leverage (the below-cap teams don’t want to throw money away).
maybe rondo just lost to gordon hayward at starcraft
man he still hasnt responded to my tweet how inconsiderate
But there is a salary floor, and they have to pay someone to reach it. Could see a team take a flyer on Chauncey for a few million if it brought them to that level, hoping to convince him to help their youngsters. Maybe they could promise to cut him before the deadline for signing on with a contender.
no; billups made clear that’s exactly what he doesn’t want.
more likely, i’d say, is a below-cap team will choose him for spite or to trade him to the team of billups’ choice.
either way, i think billups is creating leverage for himself.
and as i say, i think it’s a fascinating new front in this war between owerns and players over player-movement. if the cba was supposed to settle these issues, it hasn’t happened, and the compressed nature of this preseason (and the impending free-agent class of next year) is exposing the ugliness in owner/player relations.
tr: love this.

Sources say Lakers will instead trade Lamar Odom to Dallas into Mavericks’ new trade exception

wojo tweets that the CP3 trade has totally fallen apart.
I guess LAL can’t keep Odom after what’s happened. Seems like a disaster for LA
incredible

Cuban blocks the CP3 trade, then uses it to get Lamar Odom, which allows the Lakers to get Dwight Howard after the Mavs traded their center

I guess LA could use the trade exception for something, but obviously dallas thought odom was worth the exception, so . . . Seems like LA just loses here.
That tweet is crazy. For other reasons, it’s now been reported that Howard doesn’t want LA (as much as he wants the Nets, at least).
But who knows? Maybe now LA can revive their trade talks with the Magic.

bynum, gasol & picks for howard?
Yep.
Two big stars (one aging), but totally blows up the rest of the team.
yah lakers gonna be thiiin if this happens
boston on the other hand is set to have apparently every player in the world
And LA will have no flexibility, either. Who else can they get?
I doubt boston gets paul for rondo. If Paul opens up the net to teams such as Boston I think that net would include teams that would make a better offer.
Now, if LA can just trade Bynum and scraps/picks for Howard, it’s a good deal for LA
boston is likely willing to rent him for a year w/o any long term guarantee, so no opening of the net necessary
