-my roommates won’t let me
-expensive
oops, wrong board.
I don’t want to shoot someone?
1. Threaten to shoot your roommates if they don’t come around to your way of seeing things.
2. Stick up a bank/liquor store/gas station.
Who says violence never solved anything?
-There are kids in my house, very curious kids.
-I’m a huge klutz.
1. illegal with huge prison sentence
2. doesn’t matter
Shotguns get the point across better.
1. CoSt$ $$$ I don’t have right now.
2. Dont know how to clean one and too busy to learn.
3. Wife doesn’t want one in the house
-3a. (She wants an Uzi.)
my rifle and shotgun are three time zones east of here

I do.
currently owned:
CZ 75B (9mm semi-auto)
Sig P226 (“)
Ruger New Vaquero (semi-reproduction of the Colt Single Action Army, Old West gun)
Smith & Wesson 586 (.357 revolver)
Walther P22 (.22 semi-auto)
Browning Buckmark (”)
Para-Ordnance PX745 (.45 semi-auto)
also an AR-15, a semi-automatic reproduction of the Tommy Gun, a Marlin lever-action cowboy gun in .44 Magnum, a Mosin-Nagant carbine (Soviet rifle of WWII—you can get one for $70 all over the place) and a couple of cheap .22 rifles.
All locked in a safe (except the rifles), unloaded. I don’t keep anything for ‘home defense’—single, childless dudes in OK neighborhoods aren’t exactly prime targets for rape and murder.
Somehow I already regret that post.
a Mosin-Nagant carbine
sweet!
I used to have one that I never actually shot, even to test and had to sell it. planning on getting another, legally. milo, we need to talk.
i would rather hang out in the sandbox than shoot at targets.
the Mosin-Nagant when I stopped by to show it to my father

not bad. thanks to my extensive Call of Duty/Medal of Honor experience, i know how to strip, clean, and fire that rifle, probably
Expensive, doubt i’ll have occasion to use it...
I do want a switchblade, though.
1) It’s not easy to get in this country.
2) I’m a pacifist.
i have an antique czech air-pistol that still shoots as far as i know
I’ve got something like this...

That looks deadly, it shoots nucular balls!
Is milo in the UK? On the OMG Milo has a gun!!! thread he mentions MI6?
I don’t see the point of owning a gun. I would certainly not want one for self-defense as in most cases you tend to shoot a family member instead of a burglar, no? Read that somewhere. On top of that you’d need ot be a VERY good gunman to be able to shoot quicker than the burglar IF he’s carrying a gun. If he isn’t toting a gun, hello prison time! So no, I don’t think I’d want one. I did/do consider having a big ole dog (here in the jewellery shop) but then I’d probably be more scared of the dog than the burglar. What to do?? I do want want protection, you see.
On top of that you’d need ot be a VERY good gunman to be able to shoot quicker than the burglar IF he’s carrying a gun.
this is why they have shooting ranges, to train in. you’re not born a good gunman — and neither is the burglar.
Well, he has the advantage of knowing he’s in a dangerous situation, no? This happened a few times here. One jeweller did manage to shoot the guy but ended up in prison, I think. He shot him in the back or something. I mean, in such situations I’d be so scared, I’d be trembling. A shooting range doesnt seem a good replication of such a situation. (Does that sentence make sense?)
you could practice by targetting homeless people or something, to get used to the shakes.
I’m tempted to get a vegetarian rifle, you know, to shoot clay pidgeons with. But they’re expensive, and they smell bad and I’m such a clumbsy oaf I’d probably shoot mine own foot off cleaning it.
That said, there are all these article in the local press about how easy and cheap it is to purchase a gun if you live in the MURDER TRIANGLE (Streatham, Peckham, Clapham) but apparently only if you are a schoolchild. Oh well.
ILX, bringing hobo killing to the masses for 6 years.
Sadly we don’t have any homeless people around. :-)
Maybe one of those lovely Elizabethan muskets with all the embossed metal on them. But they take so long to load, they would be useless in an emergency.
Maybe duelling pistols would be better:

xpost
You could hit your attacker over the head with it.
I once twanged myself on the nose trying to put on my clay-pigeoning friend’s ear protectors. I think that’s the closest I’ll ever get to shooting anything.
Also, this is not he US, it’s quite strange to have a gun around here.
Yes, they had rifles like that at Penshurst Place, didn’t they? One shot, and then the back end was a club for braining your oponents. Great if you happen to run into some troublesome Roundheads.
in 1988 i put a scope on my bb gun. i hid in the woods like a sniper and shot a kid in the back, he fell like a ton of bricks and like he had been shot by a real rifle. i was arrested.
:-(
I own none, however there are approx. a dozen rifles at my grand parent’s place, including my grand pa’s WW2 rifle!
call me old fashioned but i still prefer the look of terror on your adversary’s face when you whip out a mace and charge them. plus i like to work with my hands, a mace feels more..... organic somehow.
If he isn’t toting a gun, hello prison time!
Not where I’m from.
I believe we’re also the only state where you can shoot someone over property (ie burglar stealing your VCR but not threatening you). It’s crazy.
i do not own guns or enjoy guns or want to be around guns because i have been shot at. my dad owns like milo’s stash of guns though, seriously.
there have been too many times in my life when if I had owned a firearm I would’ve turned it on myself. Even in good health it’s a matter of personal safety for me.
I can’t even stand in line next to a cop without being horribly agitated by the nearness of a firearm. I blame Chekhov.
I used to be really good at shooting (.22 rifles), like I won some medals and that. Wee neds still stand in awe of me at shooting galleries (the non-druggie kind) at funfairs, which is a terribly useful skill to have.
My brother used to have a couple of guns for his work. Professional and/or recreational (clay pigeons, target practice at a rifle range, whatever) shooting, I have no problem with. Wee twats fucking at my mates’ houses/buses/places of employment, not so high on my list of favourite things.
yeah im w/ nabisco, these things scare the SHIT out of me.
i like knives and swords bc it’s a lot hard to accidentally kill someone.
For one, I live in DC, they’re banned here
I don’t own a handgun, but I’ve had the same .22 since I was, like, 14. These are things I have shot it at: skeet (no, not that kind of skeet, Dan), beer and soda cans, targets, and once (very ill-advisedly) fish (thanks dad for explaining the bullets-can-ricochet-off-water thing before I died/killed you on accident).
oh, aye, don’t have a handgun because I don’t want one and I don’t need one and they are illegal but even if they weren’t, I wouldn’t want one anyway.
I had a rusty old revolver of some sort that my ex left after we split. I soaked it in kerosene and used steel wool to get the rust off, and oiled it. I was fascinated with it as a thing—it was pleasant to handle. But then one of my kids found it so I buried it in the back yard.
Is the “it” which was buried the kid or the gun?
I feel so alone.
I don’t like gun culture and it seems like a lot of people who own guns are stupid assholes, but I think guns themselves are cool! By which I mean, like, the actual mechanical object. I’m one of those hypocritical people who feel like nobody but themselves is trustworthy with a gun.
It’s kind of amazing how common guns are in the United States. Like, even my close friend’s super liberal hippy style parents have a couple of rifles and a revolver in a chest in their attic. They just don’t go around showing them off like morons.
The people who should have guns are kind of like the people who should be police officers: people who don’t want to.
I don’t have one now because I live in the city, and my apartment complex forbids guns on the property. And I’m poor. If I ever move back out to the country I’ll probably get some.
shooting guns is fun but bottle on fence target practice isn’t really that cool w/the nypd—now if i lived in the sticks...
I own lots of guns, my father has many more. I think some of the uncomfortablity people have with them comes from being raised with the concept that they were some sort of alien object owned by other people.
I’m sure that the concept of “John Justen, heavily armed ILXOR” probably will give some nightmares, tho.
I don’t want to shoot someone?
OTM
I don’t even want to shoot animals.
Me either.
I don’t want to shoot anything living, and I don’t own any guns and my family never did either. But ummm, guns are a kind (just one kind, before anyone gets bent out of shape) of power. And I like power. So...a working proficiency with firearms would be a good thing in my book, it just hasn’t been in the cards yet.
i prefer to experience the coolness of guns through video games, i don’t really ever want to own one. what would i use it for?
a: i have no hands
a: who would clean up after it?
a: doesn’t match the drapes
a: already have a guitar
You know, you don’t have to shoot the gun for it to be usefull.
I personally do not own any guns, but my dad does, and I’ve had plenty of experience shooting them. And this is totally OTM: I own lots of guns, my father has many more. I think some of the uncomfortablity [sic: WAHT] people have with them comes from being raised with the concept that they were some sort of alien object owned by other people.
I don’t particularly like gun culture, nor do I like those who vilify it. Both sides are irrationally obsessed with the totemic power of a stupid thing.
Fun Fact: Roger Adultery sent me a CD-R wrapped in gun paper.
