My boss has asked me to track down two recent French films on DVD today—i.e. give them to her by the end of the day—and I haven’t got a clue where to start. Does anyone know of any good stores in W1? Do any of the main chains have surprisingly good Euro selections?
My only lead so far is Video City in Notting Hill but that’s a bit far. Thanks in advance!
what films? are they import-only? if not, i’ve never really done better than hmv — so few are available in the first place.

IMDB should tell you if they have a UK DVD release.
basically french dvd producers tend to be complete bastards wrt subtitling, so they’re aren’t many that would get imported by vendors. that one on st martins lane — maybe — has a few (maybe also at the cine lumiere, but that’s way out west). but otherwise there are probably only five or six companies that release french dvds over here. if it’s not on amazon, it probably won’t be in a shop.
The Curzon Mayfair has a few racks of import DVDs for sale.
So does the ICA, though again their stock is not exactly huge.
Titles? You never know, we may have worked on them (though, having said that, I’m still off work sick so it’s not like I could smuggle out a couple of test discs to you).
Argh, that place, that place in Covent Garden. I cannot remember the name of it, but it has a very good selection of foreign films. Maybe it is the same one as Enrique’s one on St. Martins Lane, as that sounds about the right location.
yeah it’s the bottom end of monmouth st rather than SML (it’s opposite stringfellows iirc).
i must say i don’t think i’ve ever seen a french import dvd in london but that’s the best candidate in w1 i know of.
curzon soho has dvds for sale too.
