i have a new macbook pro & it only gets about 2–3 hrs of juice from the battery. I’m flying 14 hrs next week. do planes have any power sources for laptops, or do you need to run off yr batteries? is there anyway to extend the power you get from batteries?

Generally only and the front of the plane as well. There isn’t the power on the plane for more than that.

you are flying 14 hours nonstop? i would think you would have a connection somewhere where you can recharge in the terminal.
If you plan to be on a lot of 14-hour flights, a Dana would be a sound investment. 25 hours of battery life for all the word processin’ you can stand to do.

You could just buy a spare macbook pro battery to swap in. I know some people do that.
Also, no good for a laptop, but for an iPod or whatever, I’m intrigued by this product, which claims to keep USB-powered items going inflight using the headphone jack:
i like the *idea* of those dana and neo writing/email machines but a) they should weigh less than a pound, and fold down to be smaller, so you could bring both yr laptop and that, and b) could they be any uglier?? they remind me of my brother wordprocessor c. 1993
more ideal thing: ipod-like device that is wider than it is long (therefore wider screen) with wordprocessing etc and battery that lasts a v long time, plus foldable keyboard. i would think this exists.

You can have your phone on, if it’s radios (GSM/3G/Bluetooth/Wifi) are turned off, on most airlines, but ti depends on the civil aviation rules of the country that the airline is registered in.
