The fancy animation is weirding me out.

when does simpsons end?

Matt Groening said that he’ll keep doing it as long as the show makes a profit(or something to this effect).

SO CONFLICTED

Do they still have Professor Frink in current episodes? He was possibly the only character not mentioned or shown in that trailer.

i was in jr high when this shit started ffs i remember my friend dan lent me a tape of the first few episodes and i was all lol soon after the bart tshirts were everywhere

I watched nu-Simpsons last night for the first time in years and there was a lot of Frink. Pretty funny too.

I hate trying to watch trailers at apple.com. The quicktime movies there always sieze up for me.

If they took out all the deeply unfunny slapstick on/at Homer i might download this, but how much would be left?

There’s some funny slapstick with Homer in the trailer.

if they took out all the jokes about the fans/production/cliches/history of the tv show ‘the simpsons’ i might go see it

SO CONFLICTED

strange new feelings... brewing in duffman... what... would jesus do?

it did make me wonder what the hell the storyline is meant to be

I wonder if the whole thing is going to be about parodying blockbuster cliches or if that’s just for the trailer.

c’mon, there was the episode where homer drove an ice cream truck and they spent three minutes parodying the ali g opening in it to no discernible purpose. of course it’ll be all about parodying blockbuster cliches.

frink sux

maybe. i kinda miss Dr Riviera, Dr Nick Riviera too.

he had his best moment with the flammable/inflammable gag

“Call 1–800-DOCTORB! The extra B is for Bargain!” was always my fave joke.

Med school recollection!

“Homer, this injection will make the whole operation seem like a beautiful dream”

/shoots syringe into own arm

“Ahhh”

‘oh no! blood!!’

i hope dr nick lovers are watching chris parnell on 30 rock now

The slapstick jokes in trailers 1 and 2 were pretty crappy, and trailer 3 managed to tell zero about the actual plot, except that Burns is going to blow up the world or something.

I thought the original Simpsons movie trailer was kind of great.

id much rather have it be over-the-top jerry bruckheimer stuff like the south park movie than just a bunch of wack nu-simpsons gags

Yeah, the South Park movie was great. Though Simpsons has always been more focused on domestic life and family than South Park, which is more about the world.

have you actually watched the simpsons in the last 9 or 10 years?

‘the simpsons are going to north korea!’

Last nights was really funny at the beginning, but they didn’t follow through well enough (more 40 Up less Homer’s lies.)

have you actually watched the simpsons in the last 9 or 10 years?

Not really. I haven’t had a TV set for 5 years, and I’m not sure if they’re even showing it here anymore.

‘the simpsons aren’t going to finland!’

I mean, the show has always had political jabs, but are you saying it has now gone fully political like South Park?

Last nights was really funny at the beginning, but they didn’t follow through well enough (more 40 Up less Homer’s lies.)

I liked the bit w/the crazy cat lady.

The only part of the trailer I lolled at was Homer and the pig.

i hate to even mention this but it bothers me that they treat all the characters as the same age now—isnt smithers in his 50s? wasnt moe one of the original lil rascals (‘was it the ugly one? were you the ugly one?’)? the fat tony & sea captain & the crazy cat lady are the same age as comic book guy?

FWIW I think Simpsons Hit & Run (game) has a higher funny quotient than any combined total level of funny for all episodes of the past 7+ years, plus it is interactive.

yeah but you smoke alot of bammer

Hmm, it seems they’re showing 17th season episodes here, are they any good? Maybe I could try to see it at a friend’s place.

it seems like every couple years i move up the cut-off point a couple years—even the gay marriage episode, which i hated 2 years ago, is responsible for 2 of my most quoted lines (‘i’m not gay! im nothing yet!’ and ‘i’m afraid im going to have to leave you hanging there’)

The original movie that MY COUSIN MATT GROENING screened for me was a lot funnier than this.

i wish ‘who shot mr burns’ had been the movie

i know originally it was gonna be kamp krusty

“it seems like every couple years i move up the cut-off point a couple years”

I agree. I’ll watch re-runs of stuff a couple of years old and laugh like crazy.

I remember the Left Below ep had lots of laffs, even though the plot was pretty meh. “Oh, why did I CHOOSE to be GAY?!”

isnt smithers in his 50s? wasnt moe one of the original lil rascals (‘was it the ugly one? were you the ugly one?’)? the fat tony & sea captain & the crazy cat lady are the same age as comic book guy?

dude maggie should be high school senior by now

this actually looks alright? better than the teaser trailer i saw before.

It looks like they’ve finally bothered to use the kind of 3d animation Futurama used right from the getgo. It looks ok actually, though I suppose all the best jokes are in the trailer as usual.

My only real gripe is why the fuck is it called “The Simpsons Movie”? I mean gah. Surely there is a semblance of a storyline. Surely that could give the movie a NAME.

The original movie that MY COUSIN MATT GROENING screened for me was a lot funnier than this.

— Donkey Kong New York (oo.o...), February 19th, 2007.

tell me more!

also in the new trailer—GABBO!

Leee’s been dropping that bomb for 4 years and no one ever seems to bite for some reason.

He really is my cousin, but... we’re not on speaking terms.

You’ve never really elaborated afaik, whats the dealio?

See, one of my cousins (he of the Wang clan) married one of his cousins (a Groening). Ergo, I AM BLOOD RELATED, at least as far as the Interwebs are concerned.

YOU BIG CHAETER ;P

i liked when Homer gave the pig a zerbert in that trailer, not much else

I watched all the Simpsons DVDs in chronological order on breaks at work over a good long while. It’s weird to see the show getting tired by season 8 and realizing that there’s another decade of episodes out there.

If the best jokes are in the trailer, may god have mercy on us all.

You could just, you know, NOT GO SEE IT.

Haha I don’t plan to! Sorry if my reaction to the posted trailer link bummed you out, or whatever.

Last nights was really funny at the beginning, but they didn’t follow through well enough (more 40 Up less Homer’s lies.)

which is their m.o. for the past 8 seasons or so. and then about 12 minutes in bart goes “tony hawk!” or “50 cent!” and you’re wondering why you’re still watching.

I liked the bit w/the crazy cat lady.

good lord.

A running joke between me and my brother, (we regularly watched The Simpsons up to about season 11, even though it was dead by season 8, and we’ve seen bits of a few episodes since then) is saying that we bet there’s a whole episode about some minor character who’s only appeared once or twice in the show, based on the newer episodes’ constant use of one-joke characters like Disco Stu, e.g.

“I bet there’s a whole episode about Leopold”

or

“I bet there’s a whole episode about the Very Tall Man”

nullfame OTM about the 12 minutes in/famous person shit. It is the main thing I’m getting a bit sick of. Especially how they tackle it so clumsily, eg “look, it’s movie star Mel Gibson!” or wtf ever, even if that’s supposed to be part of the “joek”.

I dont know why it has gone that way—Futurama handled havnig famous people on its show all the time in a really funny elegant original way—look at Al Gore (“I have ridden the mighty moon worm!”) and Lucy Liu becoming all those Liubots and beating people up.

Instead we get weak fiddy “raps” and “hey, stay in school kids” and wtf. I mean I’ve been defending the show for a long time but it really is reaching. And the thing that makes me cranky is it just doesn’t need to. I think they need new writers, not to stop neccesarily.

xp: dana gould, sitting in front of his laptop, frantically writing:

WRITE ENTIRE EPISODE ABOUT VERY TALL MAN!”

Having said all that, Mr T at Krusty’s bar mitzvah was hilarious.

Isnt very tall man one of the writers?

LET’S SCROLLGETS ME EVERY TIME.

xpost haha I laff at his automobile!

I’ve always wondered why I hadn’t heard people talk about new characters invented over the the last decade. Is “Very Tall Man” the latest regular they came up with? He debuted in “33 Short Films About Springfield”! Or Gil? Are there reoccuring folks after that fans just don’t feel like talking about?

I very much feel like talking about Gil.

Gils been so over-used and watered down over the years...

omg is Very Tall Man really a regular now

they use crazy cat lady a lot now, also the rich texan & disco stu & the yehhhhhssss guy & cookie kwan the realtor who debuted in the same episode as gil (they even ret-conned so her & marge were friends as kids, which is insane) and that judge voiced by the mom from malcolm in the middle and the businesswoman voiced annoyingly by tress macneil

fat tony isnt new but him & his unfunny mob cronies being in every episode is

nullfame OTM about the 12 minutes in/famous person shit. It is the main thing I’m getting a bit sick of. Especially how they tackle it so clumsily, eg “look, it’s movie star Mel Gibson!”

True. Although the Worldload episode was on yesterday, and the exchanges between Michael Chabon and Jonathan Franzen are funny.

Chabon: You couldn’t make it up.

Franzen: You mean you couldn’t.

Chabon: That’s it, Franzen! I think your nose need some corrections!

They fight.

horrible

I always thought that it still had enough good qualities to watch well into the teens, still some good jokes if the stories weren’t there. I finally stopped caring last year.

My favorite joke from a later season....Krusty looking at the Jewish Walk of Fame...

“Chaim Potok? What is that, Klingon?”

I am kind of hoping that none of the trailer is in the movie.

I think it’s called The Simpsons Movie so this nation of morons buys the right ticket.

id much rather have it be over-the-top jerry bruckheimer stuff

This wd limit the audience to ppl who actually watch Bruckheimer productions, whether for “populist” reasons or not.

oh no\ what if they go see it while stoned!!!

haha “limit”

haha yes, I know millions of slobs love em. who gives a shit.

They’re in talks for Bad Boys III!!

They should basically add a half-hour of Will Smith musical numbers and make it the first Hollywood Bollywood movie.

Alf Clausen was interviewed on the Bob Edwards XM radio show today. I didn’t know he had worked on the Donny & Marie variety show, which seems good preparation.

I’m going with the whole song score of Streetcar!

PLANET OF THE APES: THE MUSICAL

Gonna Paint That Wagon

The Sideshow Bob HMS Pinafore medley

planet of the apes

see my vest

monorail

i haven’t seen a Sideshow Bob episode since the one with his brother

i wish i could say the same. ditto for frank grimes II.

The “MUSH!” “JUMP!” “REST!” bit in the trailer is brilliant. The rest...? Funny enough, I guess.

sideshow bob singing pagliacci in the colosseum was surprisingly affecting

argh i saw some of that Son Of Grimes one. so awful.

the most recent one i saw was where Marge becomes a carpenter. i came pretty close to turning over when she started doing her ‘annoyed’ sound over and over again inside that cart. and i just wanted Skinner to kill Bart.

that one was really bad

cosign w/ Eric, “Long Before the Superdome”

otoh i LOLled at Family Guy the other night when they all kept vomiting—go figure.

Saw the Japan episode in a bar last week, if the feature even approaches that I’ll be content. (Hello Kitty factory belches smoke)

I will rep for “We Put The Spring In Springfield”.

Simpsons soundtrack albums = excellent transition/filler bits for drunk college radio shows

nklshs chooses wisely (xpost)

Great exchange from the Grimes Jr. ep:

Chief Wiggum: If I can tranq one freak on stilts, I know I’ve done my job.

Lou: You’re living the dream

excelsior threads are funnier than nu-simpsons

(LOW BLOW!)

THIS IS ONE OF THE FUNNIEST SEQUENCES EVER ANIMATED
