How well do you need to know somebody in order to hate them? Can you just hate people in your daily life? Can you hate elected officials or pop figures when your only contact with them is thru media reports?
Is hate valid when you’ll never, ever encounter the person, but their existence still affects you?
i read that as “when is hate vahid?”
I was thinking about this the other day, that I didn’t really hate anybody I knew or had ever met. Hell, I don’t really hate certain American politicians, but more like feel sorry for them and for the fact that they’re in power.
I think the only person I actually hate is Frank Luntz.
And maybe Grover Nordquist.
I’m not entirely sure why they pass the threshold, but they do.
I don’t hate nearly as many people as I ought to. I tend to hate what people stand for rather than the human being themselves.
I give this thread 8 more posts until it turns meta.

You are not alone.
So anyway, back to hate
I hated somebody once, but then i realised i was thinking of the wrong person.

lol
what kind of junk food was grover using huge tubs of as furniture again?
actually, this was the Fresh Air bit that really made me want to wring the fucker’s neck.

i can;t think of anyone who i personally know who i hate—they’re mostly politicians w/a few other celebrities thrown in.
I’m wondering if the hate would be stronger or not depending on my proximity. I mean, can you hate only distant figures, or can you hate “the bitch at work” too? And I say this as a pretty easygoing and forgiving person.
if you hung out w/grover and he would probably charm your hate away by letting you sit on his giant tub of cheetos.
no wait they were goldfish weren’t they

I’M SO FUCKING FILLED WITH HATE!!!

I’ve never hated a politician or celebrity or similar TV-person. Never hated anyone I haven’t actually met and dealt with on at least a semi-regular basis. And ten years ago, I’d have said I’d never really hated anyone at all. For a minute or two maybe, but never in a deep-down, all-defining HATEHATEHATE sense...
But that spirit of placid tolerance has eroded in my middle years. Over the last decade, I’ve frequently found myself HATING people, often for no real reason. Some people just rub me the wrong way, I guess. I hate their stupid faces. I hate their horrid voices. I hate the awful food they eat and the repulsive clothes they wear. I hate the way they’re always talking about their dogs or kids or “interests” or whatever. They’re turds, these people, and their continuing failure to drown in the bathtub kinda gets me down.
I’m not sure this is healthy...
