Bought early pressing of P0rnography on vinyl recently, I am no vinyl supremacist but it sounded better than I have ever heard it. It is such a good album!

Faith was always my favourite of the pre-Disintegration albums—but when I saw Seventeen Seconds played live on that Reflections tour this foundational belief was sorely tested.

I know I am not an old ILX head who was here in the BBS days of two tin cans and a piece of string—but I do think the old interface was perfect and classic. Getting used to talking about The Cure in this new box is weird but I accept it will become less weird. It may become less weird.

I also miss the ILM/ILE shortcuts at the bottom of a page.

I think the fixed menu is a reasonable alternative to that; my primary complaint is that too many shortcuts make it wrap in an unpleasant way on a mobile browser.

Yeah Dan, me too! Don’t worry, I will be trying to make that better, it’s just not that easy, when you have to keep a bunch of stuff there, as well as have the buttons large enough to press!

Here’s an idle thought:

What if the user object had properties for hasBookmarks and hasSavedPosts and only shows those icons if the values are true? Right now they don’t add much value if there isn’t any data to drive them.

They can easily go on a separate line, but I guess on mobile that takes up a significant chunk of additional space.

I should look into this band. I loved Standing on a Beach but in a weird way — I thought “none of the albums will be as good as this comp, let’s keep the experience perfect” so never really kept going. (Did the same with the Smiths and the Singles comp.)

Real talk, Standing on a Beach is a gateway into greatness

Surely that’s a fruitful topic—compilations so good that they’re all you need (or almost all you need). Vs. compilations that you can use to figure out which albums/era you should dig deeper into. vs. compilations that are good because the compilers were correct in their choices.

Vs. hits compilations that are enough because the band is not very good apart from its hits, or good because the hits are the actual good songs (because the band and the labels had the precisely correct judgment of which songs should be singles.

A poll for favorite non-SOAB tracks would be instructive.

Compare REM Eponymous, which is really good as an intro but omits some essentials.

Disintegration is my favorite and no. 1 vote, but I feel like Seventeen Seconds and Faith are the actual must-listens if you aren’t familiar with the Cure.

What I did, and what I suggest to anyone using Standing on a Beach as a gateway, is to explore the albums/compilations (hi dere Japanese Whispers) that the singles they like the most come from first and then buy everything
