hey Kate, I have been on fire today, posted loads of threads (you should look) and pissed off Enrique. and I didn’t even have to use my AK.....

It sounds easy to fix though. Have you tried just spraying some WD-40 inside the pickupswitch (just a tiny bit). I’d tend not to trust anywhere on Denmark Street. Andy’s might be OK.

I have been adding to the nutmeg by eating more little pies. Stoned is exactly how I’d describe it.

Ed, soon you are going to have to go to rehab if you don’t stop this relentless nutmug abuse.

Dr. C, maybe I should be less afraid of opening it up and seeing what’s up inside. I should change the broken jazz circuit switch but I’m not even sure my soldering skills are up to that. Besides, when do I ever play jazz? (Though the jazz circuit is great for that “Cocteau Twins” big full sound.)

Mark H, have you just been saving up threads all week to post all at once? Are you suffering from sandboxitis?

Hi guys!

Hey, Gooblar! Excited for tonight?

hi g00blar!

BOXCAR! NO!NO!NO!

(I love this BOXCAR thing, having no idea where it came from, really). I am excited for tonight, but as there’s 4 or 5 hours between soundcheck and stage-time, I’m a bit worried I’m just gonna be hammered by the time we’re on.

x-p You should have a look inside, Kate. I reckon the rhythm circuit switch should be easily replaceable—maybe superglueable even if you have the broken off bit.

Cocteaus sound—I use neck p/u on the ‘lead’ circuit with a compressor and tons of delay. When you kick in some fairly heavy overdrive too, it does that ‘five guitars playing at once’ thing where you can hear a clean picky sound on top of massed banks of noise. I like that sound!

What on earth does “BOXCAR” mean? I’m so confused.

I should have done this when I changed the strings the other day (I tried using your method, Gooblar, but it doesn’t make sense with Fenders, which have their own string locking systems which make them so easy to change) but was too scared to. I don’t have the bit that got knocked off—it needs a new switch.

Oh, and Ed! I have torn my house apart looking for the second CD of the Hawkwind box—with In Search of Space on it—and I cannot find it. Honestly, I think it may never have made it home after Truck. (I should ask the Texan tonight.) Is there any way you could err, help me out? (This should in no way be conflated with any kind of why ess aye reqest, it is a simple suggestion.)

BOXCAR! came from this

I can help you out.

KATE! please ask her about that atlas too! i cannot take anything out of hackney libraries until it’s sorted out. she was going to bring it to a gig back in august so i could return it but she didn’t come to the gig.

and if she’s lost it that’s ok, i just need to KNOW so i can sort it out. they are sending the heavies round.

Anyone know a good gift for a bassist?

She has STILL not returned that atlas?!?!? Crikey! I will admonish her tonight.

I really don’t understand that boxcar comic strip. Oh god, I’ve not got a sense of humour, I was just deluding myself in a nutmeg induced hallucination when I thought I was starting to get it. Someone please explain what the heck that means.

Don’t worry kate, it’s not actually that funny.

I was just conflating boxcar and rehab

Ah, seeing that we’re not talking of why ess eyeish things at all, I have a humble and PERFECTLY LEGAL AND ACCEPTABLE request: Do any of you coolerites have the ILX Compilation Vol 2 in any mailable form? I did request a copy from the relevant authorities years ago, but that seems to have been lost in the fog, and since I have #1 I’d like to Collect The Set!

OK, that makes sense! Phew.

I am not a space alien after all.

OK, maybe I am. Who knows!

x-post I used to have a copy of ILX Comp #2 but I spilled rum and coke or something on it and it DISSOLVED. I was quite disappointed about that.

I’ll be at a indie club called Fraggle tonight, because a friend of mine runs it and it’s the first one and blah blah. Sorry, Gooblar!

Doh! NO ONE’S COMING.

Dude, you’re not coming to my next gig so shut up! :-P

(Sorry, that sounds like a perfectly reasonable reason not to come. It’s just that about 4 other people *just* told me they’re not coming, including stupid industry guy.) xpost

Yeah, I know!

Here is a picture of Paisley. Isn’t it lovely?

No it most certainly isn’t!!!!

bribe your students with As

I was briefly excited by that Fraggle night as it’s at “The Warwick” which is also the name of the bar at the end of the street I work on, and being called Fraggle I expected a playlist consisting of Ned’s, Carter etc! Sadly it’s not to be.

xxxxxpost

Is that club run by that dude Fraggle off OKC?

Oh! And F is totally down with dressing like Hawkwind for the next gig. J is threatening to strip off and dance around like Stacia but we told him only if he wears psychedelic body paint. Then we decided, sod it, the three of us were just going to start a Hawkwind tribute band.

Anyway, what a great hat!

Where on earth am I going to get aviation goggles? Camden Market, I suppose? Or army navy shop?

I am so happy when I ask for fashion advice from my friends because invariably they say “oh, YES you should get goggles. But do not take fashion advice from us!” when they are precisely the people I *should* take fashion advice from.

So why haven’t you posted that picture of Dave Brock with his goggles yet?

Like this I mean:

What picture of Dave Brock in goggles?!?!? Post, please! x-post thank you thank you thank you. They just look like they had so much fun. That was the main reason that F and I decided we wanted to be them.

That’s lovely, Dr. C—is that where you’re going?

where I’m going later. (Yes I know it’ll be raining...)

Beautiful.

There must surely be photos of Bob Calvert in goggles!?!??!

Is that club run by that dude Fraggle off OKC?

Oh god, SuperFraggle, I’d forgotten him.

No, it’s actually Ronan’s big bro. He is a man of enthusiastic enthusiasms, so I wouldn’t be entirely surprised by some Neds, so to speak. And I’ll be annoyed if he doesn’t play Carter, not least because I’ll be yelling for it between every song.

And I am really sorry I won’t be at the gig, but there’ll be other Gooblar gigs, and there won’t be other first nights for this club.

I’ve just been looking at lots of pictures of Bob Calvert in goggles.

Mad Robert:

All of Hawkwind, more or less goggled:

I took a picture in Paisley last week.

It’s the most densely populated thoroughfare in the town

Ha ha ha ha ha, at first I thought it was a photo of Brick Lane that someone had made more truthful.

Hey Poo, are you going to the tribute to Wiz gig on the 4th March?

It is Brick Lane, some wag had tippexed the sign.

hey, i have one of those.

I was thinking of going to the Wiz gig but I can’t really afford it at the moment unfortunately. And each band is only playing 4 songs. That’s probably more than enough for Midway Still I suppose.

dr c that is gorgeous.

x-post

Give it to me then.

Is it old, or a reissue?

i’m not telling. it’s mine.

Not goggles, but a helmet and nipple clamps. Um. ???

(This is the clue for FP to magically appear, yes no?)

You know there are more facets to FP’s personality than S&M and related arcana ;)

Thank you Mark!

(but it is a slightly creepy coincidence that I clicked on the thread just after Kate’s post there)

Aw, if you don’t like the teasing, FP, please let me know and I won’t do it any more.

It’s OK, Kate. I’m all warm and fuzzy at the moment anyway.

You have some gossip, post-VD, then?

I hope things are going well for you!

post-VD

the ointment worked just fine, cheers.

YAY YAY I AM BACK AT THE LOVELY PLACE WORKING NEXT WEEK ONLY 2 DAYS OR MAYBE 3 BUT STILL YAY YAY! and i am doing something DIFFERENT to usual which will involve learning NEW STUFF yay yay!

wheeee! suddenly everything looks rosy.

...and you were saying you were all over your crush!

Damn, crushes do have a way of making the world seem rosey, though.

Whee! Bonus Time at the Clinique counter! I have a bag of gifts ALL FOR ME.

Winner! You got the nod! (Do people outside of Ireland say that?)

I’m off to run errands, and probably won’t be back online today....so, everyone have GREAT weekends, please!

...and you were saying you were all over your crush!

oh, this is purely work/future-related excitement! which i have been having a hard time with, so YAY.

I’m going to Cambridge tomorrow with Asia to meet my sister for lunch, go exploring, then meet up with my friend George. I wonder if my sis will bring her extremely stupid Weimaraner George with her? It’d be great for human George to meet canine George!

Weimaraners are beautiful looking doga, but so scatty!

arggghghgh...fashion week....mehhhhhhhh...so anyway drunk editor nearly tried to give ESM magazine founder a noogie last night at our reception due to too much fizzy grape juice and sherbert dips at Giles and Gareth Pugh, poor boy, and I had to remove editor before he could. NB ESM founder shorter than me in my 3-inch heels; editor very tall. It. Nearly. Got. Awkward.

Today I am doing the Chasing of the Journalists’ Late Copy and batting away requests from some jumped-up gallerist to get copy approval for some artists I’m writing about, which is so not gonna happen. Yesterday was all about “well, X Magazine let us see the text before they sent it off” followed by “We are not X Magazine. What about the word ‘no’ is so difficult to understand, mate?” followed by “well, that’s the condition we set when we provided images” followed by “not according to the correspondence I have here, you only started wheedling after we got images and the interview, dumbass. SO NOT GONNA HAPPEN.

Still haven’t gone.. but should be off shortly. Have great weekends people!

Omigod Suzy, I am sooooo glad I write about product design not fashion design. Got up at 6:45 (!!!) to go to my friend’s St Martin’s graduate show—the show started at 10:15-ish and I was standing at the back holding onto a rail for dear life praying I wouldn’t faint it was so hot. A truly mental experience. And a completely vacuous 24 hours began yesterday evening when I spied Noel Fielding and Sadie Frost (not together, the latter was with BOYS. HALF HER AGE) in the pub. Then took respite in Made in Brazil and who should be at the next table but Amy Winehouse! Yes, they tried to make me go to rehab, I said no no oooh I quite fancy a caipirinha....clearly

Sadie Frost: cavorting with boys half her age since 1995.

Still, it makes a change from SF pre-’95, which was cavorting with men twice *her* age.

Who wouldn’t cavort with boys half their age, given the chance?

Say hello to the Severn Bridge for me, Dr C!

(I love how you have to pay to get into Wales, but it’s free to leave)

Aaaah, Prawn, that is like your dream/nightmare!

I am back from the shops, and I have card and present for the Texan—but also a whole load of DVDs for me, to watch, in bed, this weekend.

My colleagues do not understand why I am sniggering so hard.

Which DVDs?

x-post Will do, CJ.

I’ll hold my breath through the Usk tunnel as well ;)

Take a wild, wild WIIIIIIILLLLLD guess.

(Also, Hawkwind Masters of the Universe—the studio one, not the live one I already have. Had to hear Orgone Accumulator.)

x-post

Oh my god, I WANT!!!

Totally sexxxxxy:

It is 7:30 on Friday and I have been waiting for THREE HOURS for either one of two people to look at a mere 22 page power point presentation before I can go home. But because it is Friday they are happy to sit around on the trading floor and drink and joke and do whatever the @#$% those people do after the market closes. Un-effing believable.

What would happen if you gave up waiting and just went home?

Eh, I can’t. People are going starting a roadshow on Monday, plus one of my bosses (the one who doesn’t like me) asked that I make sure everything gets done.

So go down there with a whip (a metaphorical one, mind you) and crack it.

Kerr, this had better NOT be jazz I am d/l-ing now.

Kate loves the Jazz

Oh and that was quite funny that FP’s ears were burning upthread.

Ack! Ack! even worse than Kerr sending me jazz, I just uploaded what Ed sent me and it’s COMEDY!!! ARgh!

I sent Ed some humorous Russian hip-hop last week.

fucking hell, this joanna newsom album has the word “spelunking” in it.

Joanna Newsom uses great words! Spelunking! Hydrocephalic!

Are you spelunking this weekend?

I have never spelunked in my life.

I bought Charlie Chaplin’s “City Lights” on DVD a couple of days ago—£3.95! I watched it last night—I haven’t seen it in a long time, & only remember the odd bit of it. It’s great, the last scene of the film is so lovely.

Cooler action on a saturday eh?

Hello all!

Hello to all the lurkers and people who pretend they don’t read the cooler!

Wow, there’s a bunch of silent movie clips on YouTube, I shouldn’t be surprised, really. Lillian Gish is rescued from the icy waterfall at the end of “Way down East”:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVSJFzm-Kxk

Cute split-screen sequence w/Colleen Moore, from “Ella Cinders”:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQApnpMvAK4

Loads of other stuff including Chaplin’s “Easy street”, split into 2 parts, Keaton’s “Sherlock Jr” split into 6 parts, gawd, I love youtube.

“Why don’t you play the GAAAAAAMEEEE?” (Wa wa wa wa-wa WAAAAHHHHHH!).

I’ve spent Saturday afternoon in the pub. Now I’m listening to Daft Punk and looking forward to episode 2 of Primeval, and tommorrow I’ll be seeing Hot Fuzz then spending Sunday afternoon in the pub.

Life’s okay at the mo.
