The guy who just finished fixing the copier machine, explaining to me why it took 5 days to replace this missing part:
Well, you know how it is. You can’t just buy the dress without buying the shoes, the jewelry, and everything else.
Thank you, stranger, for putting that copier tech talk into a language I can understand!
So how about this weather, eh? One minute it’s pouring the snow, the very next it’s brilliantly clear and blue!
yeah, i was snow blind when i came back from lunch.
Jordan, Do you have an email address for her too? Maybe something is wrong with that number or she can’t check messages from whereever she is..?
today is valentine’s day and in four days it’s the one-year anniversary of when i met my gf (at a saint etienne show!). before i met her i had a series of awkward dating experiences which were exercises in gamesmenship. i’m glad to be off the market :-p
holy fuck the city locations for homemade pizza co. all deliver! you can’t imagine how disproportionately happy this makes me.
I know! We discovered this when we went in to get a pizza last weekend. Delivery is only $2!
the weird thing is, I could understand if she never called me back after the one night...but why call me once and sound all positive about going something, and then disappear for two weeks?
Ugh, I hate this. There was that one girl a couple years ago who I spent the night with and made plans to see again when I was walking her home in the morning, and then I never heard from her again, after several e-mails and phone calls.
The back part of the Rennaisance hotel is cordoned off because of the falling ice. Not just little warning signs, but the sidewalk is closed.
the last girl i was seeing before my gf ditched me without warning on my BIRTHDAY. no call, no nothing.
in four days it’s the one-year anniversary of when i met my gf (at a saint etienne show!).
Awww!
I think my brother was at that show.
Nope, just the phone number. :(
There actually is a homemade pizza co.? I thought Nick just meant that you guys were making pizza from scratch.
In 25 days it will be the one-year anniversary of when I met Kr.
i don’t get it. they deliver you an uncooked pizza?
the last girl i was seeing before my gf ditched me without warning on my BIRTHDAY. no call, no nothing.
Cold.
Goddamn anniversaries and birthdays all to hell. Bah.
Sorry, I’m the bitter one today.
yes kenan, this has been discussed here recently.
i have a pact with her. if sarah cracknell comes a-callin’, i get one ‘exception’. also: if francoise hardy circa ’64 appears.
I don’t know who my celebrity exemption is. I think hers is David Duchovny.
I probably shouldn’t have told you guys that.
I’m going to call my record “How to Bake the Big Cookie”.
That’s such a sad story, John! (and gear!)
My 3-yr relationship in college ended with a breakup on my birthday (me being the dumpee). It was a complete shock.
In 5 days, it will be my 8 year 3 monthiversary with Nick.
i think hers is what’s his name from luna.

spielberg?
i had a girl break up w/me on my 23rd birthday. she was an “older woman” and immediately started dating another dude named kevin in a delightful bit of foreshadowing.
I think I met him about a month before we started going out, but I’m not 100% positive.
Jordan, we usually do make pizza from scratch, but everyone gave this place rave reviews so we tried it.

They’re giving away mini chocolates outside of Borders on State, and it’s yummy.
Kevin, I dated a guy briefly in high school who ended up having a second girlfriend (ie: at the same time) also named Sarah.

i knew the other kevin, we went to high school together. one night he gave me a ride home from the bar when i was WAAAAAAAAAAAAY fucked up and i showed my gratitude by climbing out of his car and saying “thanks, but your girlfriend still loves me.”
a-hole.
lol @ Duchovny drag
I am listening to Echo & the Bunnymen. Why? I don’t know.
DAN, YOU MUST WAIT UNTIL YOU GIVE YOURSELF TO HIM.
I was going to say it sounds surprisingly like the Arcade Fire. But I don’t get the reference, sorry. I think this is the first time I’ve ever listened to them.
Have you not heard “Lips Like Sugar”?
dan, it’s from “killing moon”.
J, no, it’s not on this record (I’m listening to some co-worker’s iTunes library).
“The Killing Moon” is up in a couple tracks though. I’m going to fast forward to it ’cause I think I can get out of here early again today since my boss is gons.
D. Cooper’s chin is so bite-able.
I thought that “Lips Like Sugar” was kind of famous. I sort of mentally group it with “So Alive” by Love and Rockets. Probably just songs I heard on WXRT or early ’90s Q101.
I think I first heard “Killing Moon” when Pavement covered it.
my older sister LOVED echo and the bunnymen in high school/college.
I sort of mentally group it with “So Alive” by Love and Rockets.
There’s maybe a larger category that also includes “Beds Are Burning” by Midnight Oil and “Under the Milky Way” by the Church.
And “Cuts You Up” by Peter Murphy.
i.e., Anglo-oriented modern rock from the late 80s with portentous booming baritone vocals.
You guys were busy today.
I get done with class on Thursdays at... 2:45. Yes. That’s right. 2:45. Academics? Unemployed? Servers? Those with PTO to burn? Join me.
That’s tomorrow, I mean. And in response to Dan’s question above. And also we were slacking by planning happy hour so late last week.
Also, I like The Refused.
how many ilxors are in chicago? there seem to be more from there than any of the other major cities (save london).
NYC sez ;_;
;_;
maybe i’m just more aware of which ones are from chicago
9 maybe??
Thank you, stranger, for putting that copier tech talk into a language I can understand!
I just had someone from career services suggest that we host a panel of women attorneys to talk about balancing family and work life or how to keep your career on track after having children. We have had three panels of women attorneys speak on those subjects just this year.
It’s a stunning concept that women might be interested in the actual substance of the law instead of how we can have jobs and babies at the same time.
xp: 10—15?
My bff Lynn talked to Ian McCulloch on the radio and he invited her “backstage” at his show in Cleveland and then reneged when he found out that she was 15.
THe end. Happy Valentine’s Day.
You all better not forget to list me this time or someone’s getting jacked in the jackballs.
yeah nyc has more, then...
me jeff nick sarah john kenan jesse dan amanda horseshoe julia kevin
Don’t mess with my jackballs!
I just jump-started the car of the dude who helped me with my key situation yesterday. Karma is real.
jaymc, nick, sarah, jeff, jenny, kevin, dan martin, amanda, deej, sparklecock... and some more. does stormy davis still live in chicago?
oh yeah, horseshoe, julia, and ME
and eric z.
Eric! Dammit I knew I would forget someone in the “core” group.
Jon via Chicago...
Dear 70 Page Law Review Article:
I hate you.
Love,
Jenny
So at least 15. Sorry dudes who I was forgetting in my count (you’ll never know who!).
jordan is honorary.
so is laurel. she is of a chicago temperament.
Not really. But I lubs the midwest.
that’s more than l.a., at least. i think.
i should be honorary chicagoan, what with my roots which are deep like levar burton
and then there are those who can claim dual citizenship, like hstencil, nabisco, and amateurist
For purposes of ILXor head-count, though, I have to be ranked with la manzana mas grandes.
Well, yeah, but the question was how many are IN Chicago. I *heart* Jordan and Laurel (xp and Ama and I hear that nabisco is OTM and hstencil and I hated each other once but are BFFs now even though he probably doesn’t remember BUT I DO) but they are not in Chicago and cannot be counted for the purposes of the question. Technically then neither can that guy moving here from Chapel Hill.
does stormy davis still live in chicago?
I’m sure he does, as long it’s south of Roosevelt.
There’s also Derek Erdman, jonviachicago, Josh in Chicago, econjohn, jennpb, and K3rry K3ane.
Other former Chicagoans: Phil-Two and Grady.
Okay this is fascinating but I have a long law review article to read. Not as long as originally feared, however; more than half of it is footnotes.
But wait you have to hear my story it’s about dogs:
I just yelled at this dude in the park because he let his scary dog come running up to Carl and me and then when his dog pounced on me and almost knocked me over and I yelped he didn’t even SAY anything. THen you know what he said? From like 100 feet away? When I started stomping through the snow out of the park?
“Don’t you want to stay and play?”
I yelled, “NO.” And Carl and I took off. I wanted to stay and play, but not with his scary dog.
Or him. That guy can suck on a walnut.
Amanda!!! Even if that big dog was harmless, which YOU had no way of knowing, you must have been TERRIFIED!
Or an apricot.
No, apricots are too good for him, but gross, hurty walnuts are JUST RIGHT, sez Goldilocks.
I was not happy.
And Carl knew that I was scared and he started growling, and then I looked at the guy and was like HELP and he was just plop plop plop walking through the snow like there was nothing going on. NOT COOL PARK ETIQUETTE.
i don’t get the walnut hate
They burn my mouth when I chew them. Maybe too acidic?
While trying to think of Chicagoans, I remembered something — wasn’t one of us throwing a party once and this girl started a thread and was like “we can have the party at my place,” even though nobody knew her? When was that?
Jaymc, if YOU don’t remember, ain’t NOBODY remember.
OK I just found it in my e-mail.
if i lived in chicago i would have faps with all this ilxors
xpost (!)
She didn’t start a thread, she privately e-mailed Jenny.
Gear, you don’t even hang out with LAers.
xp And the party that “we” were throwing was the infamous birthday party at Robin’s place that involved me stumbling down to Jeff and Jenny’s place with my pants around my ankles and Kenan falling down and hitting his head on the curb outside T’s.
Then there are the lurkers, too, right? C0urtn3y has an account, although it seems like Jesse posts from it more than she does.
Didn’t one of gbx’s friends lurk for a while, too?
You mean Chicago Reader letters-column personality MARK DANJER?
that is true...i guess i’m naturally somewhat reticent about opening up a new social territory, which is probably just irrational.
No, admit it — Ned freaks you out.
just the weird non-sideburns and the 3am heavy breathing calls which i traced back to a ‘n. raggett’ of costa mesa.
How quickly we forget gbx as a honorary (former) Chicagoan. Also robotsinlove.
We spread our seed far and wide.
Sterling and Felicity used to live here, too.
Also: Ann Sterzinger, Brian Nemtusak, Sarah Pedal
Rockin’ the suburbs: T0dd Sw1ss, Melissa W
A co-worker of mine (the one who told me about this job, in fact) used to post on ILB and a couple times on this thread, back in 2004.
