i am basically done... i am back home, but i am taking one class online then i will be done.
Jordan, Elaborate on the high school scene. Tell us about the kids these days.
Awesome, todd.
My plan for the evening:
Walk to Bus
Take bus to bank
Do stuff at bank (not rob it)
Go to video store
Pray Marie Antoinette is in
Pray they let me rent it even though we already have movies out
Walk the rest of the way home
don’t rob the bank
don’t rob the bank
don’t rob the bank
you’re cool, just don’t rob the bank
Just keep repeating that you’ll be fine.
I went out to dig our car out of the snow and discovered that our car mysteriously has almost no snow on it. Either some mysterious good samaritan cleaned it off or it was shielded from all the snow by being parked next to the garage for the building next door.
I stayed at home and rewatched a bunch of Freaks & Geeks today.
I don’t have any juicy anecdotes about the hs kids, but it was a little unnerving playing in the gymnasium (worst acoustics ever) for all of their jaded little eyes.
xpost, nice
I’m home. The drive wasn’t bad except for the madness at the intersections around LSD. Why don’t people stop going across when it’s obvious no more cars can fit? The roads are moving except for down there.
LSD sucked up until about 47th, then the wind was blowing and the snow was drifting so a lot of people just stopped, which made it so much easier to go around them. :)
I am still at work, don’t get off till 6.
suckfest
IT IS ASSHOLE DAY ON TEH TRAINS. I also lucked into an Addison bus that then got rear ended. No one was hurt and another bus came long and we all got on that and went home.
Asshole train things:
1. Youngish kid taking up two seats for sleepin’ on a train so crowded people couldn’t get into the doors.
2. Youngish kid wakes up, recognizes his assholery, and sits up. Grown up dude immediately throws his bag into the empty seat, saying “I NEED TO THROW MY BAG HERE.”
3. Grown dude starts telling a companion about his recent travels, relating a story about how he was really rocking out to some music when the guy behind him asked him to please not rock out so hard because he was rattling his tray table and making eating/reading impossible. The guy’s response was to ignore him and keep on rocking because, “Hey, I’ve got a life to live.”
4. Grown dude then went on to talk about how there were so many Mexicans out there and that he really couldn’t stand that.
5. Meanwhile, less blatantly racist women standing next to me talked about the pros and cons of various resorts in Mexico based on the response time of the “little men” who brought them drinks.
6. Train finally pulled into Addison and Grown Dude and his companions, who were standing in front of the door, refused to move to let people out. I let off some steam by telling him, “You are a fucking asshole” as I pushed past him to squeeze out of the door.
Then I bought beer and I am drinking it now.
4. Grown dude then went on to talk about how there were so many Mexicans out there and that he really couldn’t stand that.
5. Meanwhile, less blatantly racist women standing next to me talked about the pros and cons of various resorts in Mexico based on the response time of the “little men” who brought them drinks.
wow.
I let off some steam by telling him, “You are a fucking asshole” as I pushed past him to squeeze out of the door.
I love you, Jenny!
Yeah, there was a lot of Mexican hate on that train today.
Those people must not ride the Blue Line.
The women would be ordering drinks from all the Blue Line riders like Lucille does when she attends the Desis.
I MADE AN ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT JOKE.
omg that is so otm, too! that would be awkward.
DON’T DRIVE TODAY, GENIUS.
Some of us have to drive to work because taking the train/bus would take about 2 hours each way.
That said, I wanted to kill myself after spending THREE HOURS getting home from the west side today. Instead of killing myself I will drink some wine and eat some dinner and try not to kill myself.
I saw a snow drift in the middle of the road on LSD that was taller than I am.
I would have rather spent 2 hours on the bus than three hours putzing through Chicago alone in my car at 2 mph.
I saw a snow drift in the middle of the road on LSD that was taller than I am.
I just found out the reason things were so backed up when I left work was that the city closed LSD from 57th to 47th because of drifting.
man, i’m sorry guys, i’ve been super pissy lately. all week, and all last week. everyone seems to be super pissy lately. my whole office is at one another’s throats. it’s all gone monkey side.

I’m struggling to maintain a positive attitude but it’s getting a bit tough. I just ate a ginger spice cookie and it helped a little bit.
I just read a student’s paper where she tells the story of how she was speeding on the turnpike and got pulled over for doing 90 mph in a 60 mph zone. The cop asked her to roll down her window and her daughter poked her head over to the driver’s side and puked all over him. Then he gave her five tickets. The end. Or so goes her story.
Grr. I lost my wireless connection right after posting that thing about driving in the weather, then I had to go to work.
I have owned a car, and that was in the South, and when it snowed there I sometimes went for pleasure drives. What would *not* be fun would be to have to actually get somewhere by car on a day like today.
The 2 other pleasure drivers I know of also live in the South, they are Christian (Courtney’s former not-so-significant other) and her brother. Oh, and my boss from the flower shop.
Anyway, it’s a little adventure and it’s really beautiful.
I knew Dan would be able to see it my way!
Add my brother to that list.
What I think is a much worse idea is the people I saw on bicycles on State St. and Wacker Drive. There was one guy on Wacker in front of Cathch slogging through drifts. It was after dark with taxis and buses swerving to avoid him since he there was pretty much no right lane and visibility was horrible.
DON’T BIKE, ASSBUTT!
My trip home (walking & then eventually an expensive taxi ride since no bus came) wasn’t very interesting yesterday, but it took an hour and 15 minutes, which is a very long time considering how close I live to work. At one point I was standing on a corner knee deep in snow (there was nowhere else to stand), ice was whipping against my face, my toes felt like pebbles in my shoes, and my fingers ached through my gloves. The taxis passing me were already full. Then I started to cry. It was a blast.
I wouldn’t last a day if I were one of the characters from Alive.
The Mexican hate stories remind me of when I was little and two much older cousins from Dallas came to visit us. One of them asked me if we had any blacks at our school. I said, yeah, about 5 I guess. Then she said what about Mexicans? I was like, Why would Mexicans be at our school??? And then she went on and on about how lucky I was not to have to deal with them and their lazy asses. I had never been exposed to anti-latino sentiments before and was completely bewildered.
man, yesterday on the train sucked. it was wicked crowded and i had to wait like 5 minutes before i could find a seat for my bag. anyway, i was with my friend brian and i was telling him about my last plane flight when i was cranking some tunes and totally rocking out in my seat. i was telling bri-guy how the nerd in the seat in back of me asked me to stop rocking and i was all “hey fielding mellish, i got a life to live, go big or go home dude.” and kept rocking the fuck out. man i love dave matthews band.
anyway, around addison some broad pushed passed me and called me an asshole. i’m pretty sure she was a dyke.
LOLZ
Well, my dad has been made. :-D
Well, my day has been made. :-D
Don’t you dare bring my dad into this!
Sarah is talking to herself again...
My brother is going to have a baby. Well, his wife is.
I was like, Why would Mexicans be at our school???
Do you mean because you thought Mexicans would be in Mexico?
After we got sent home early yesterday, I headed straight to Hopleaf for a couple of beers, picked up some dinner at the Middle Eastern Bakery, and spent the rest of the night reading Prep. ATTENTION JESSE I AM READING “PREP.”
Are you excited about being an aunt, Jenny?
Do you mean because you thought Mexicans would be in Mexico?
Exactly.
my actual commute home started with me using a half hour of annual leave so i could catch the 3:11 bus. at around 3:40 the 2:45 bus finally showed up. despite leaving 90 minutes earlier than i do on a normal day i got home 20 minutes later than i normally do. and when i got home i just felt so utterly defeated that i went to bed.
also, i upgraded my netflix account to get 3 movies at a time because i burn through those tv on dvd things so quickly. but i think the formula i’m going to use is 1 tv dvd, 1 movie, 1 music dvd. that should cover me for the weekend.
anyway, lost is on tonight. i should order a pizza.
Well, my dad has been made. :-D
So he’s not in the mob then?
I don’t know the mob lingo.
I forgot Lost is on tonight!
my sister and i have been having a running political debate via email since last week but i am now totally jealous of her because she got to see this while i had to read about it in my inbox:
“We went to a Dennis event four years ago at Rivier
College in Nashua. He had a ”warm up act“ of these
two really geeky just-out-of-college types. They
claimed to be married. He was a human beat box/one
man band with some sort of electronic stuff taped to
him and she did interpretive dance. They called
themselves the Vibration Army. They wore regular
clothes with homemade tank tops on top of with a V
and an A in glittery material glued on them. It was
probably one of the top 5 funniest things I have ever
seen in my life. Note, that the crowd was probably
about 40 people.”
i suppose it’s funnier if you know what southern central new hampshire is like.
We’re going to get one of those homemade pizza kitchen pizzas! And watch Lost!
Are you excited about being an aunt, Jenny?
I’m happy for them. That bro tends to get the cosmic shaft all the time so hopefully this will be a good happy thing in his life.
oooh! i want spinach and carmelized onion pizza from there! i won’t get one because i don’t want to walk any further than i have to in the snow.
I don’t know the mob lingo.
Made. This movie is pretty hilarious. It’s kind of like watching what would happen if I got “made,” ie, inducted into the mafia.
OH yeah. I forgot about that movie.
My mom just sent a poem I wrote in high school to my sisters and I as some sort of e-valentine. I started reading it and was like.. ugh.. this is awful... what is this? Why is she sending me this? Oh, yeah.
Last night, we watched Half Nelson. I’d recommend it. But then as I was trying to fall asleep, I suddenly got the fear of god in me that I drink alcohol too often and that Chicago has been a bad influence on me. Then Nick said, There, There, Sarah. There, There... and I fell asleep.
!!!!!!!!! Aw.
Also, tell the fear of God to relax, and make it a martini.
anyway, around addison some broad pushed passed me and called me an asshole. i’m pretty sure she was a dyke.
KEVIN YOU ARE A TREAT
I want to stay home today, too. But no.
i swear to god the first time i read that i thought you called me a teat. i had to check twice to make sure it wasn’t jenny calling me names and that i hadn’t really insulted her.
i should have worked a barelycorn’s reference in there.
I’ve been spelling squeegee wrong. It’s not “squeejee.”
I braved driving to work today because I was worried I would go crazy insane if I spent another day in the apartment all day.
OMG, kitten broke my headphones. She chewed through the wire! Am I going to have to kittenproof my whole setup somehow?
I would love to go crazy insane spending all day in the apartment.
Kittens will do that. They will also scratch up your couch.
I want a kitten.
I think it was my trip home last night that made me all crazy (or at least extra crazy). I also woke up in the middle of the night and swore Pepper was dead. She was sleeping beside me, but I couldn’t see her breathing. When I touched her she felt stiff and kind of cold and I totally freaked. I was about to wake up Nick when I pet her again and she started purring really loudly.
This was probably also a result of the dead cat in the movie we watched.
I’m bored. Talk to me.
I expect my kittens to be decorous and well-behaved.
i forgot my carmex at home for the second consecutive day. my lips are chapped beyond reason. i’m going to make some tea now.

You can put honey on the lips, actually. It’s hydrophillic.
i also didn’t bring my honey to work today.
you never bring me your honey
I’m having hot chocolate and an orange.
Man, that snow sure is coming down.
Oh well, I just said because sometimes office kitchens have honey? Or delis have it in little packets? Tho I guess if you were at a deli you could just buy some more Carmex.
Happy Valentine’s Day. Kr said last week that V Day is totally not a big deal to her and she’s not expecting roses and chocolates and all of that, but she did say “well maybe we can still do something nice,” and I said “sure.” And so I just thought that that meant that we’d go out after Lost and get dessert/wine somewhere. But now it turns out that she is making dinner for me, and then reserved us tickets to see a show at IO, and I didn’t realize that she was going out of her way to do things FOR ME, instead of us just doing something mutually and spontaneously, and so now I’m feeling vaguely guilty, since I haven’t done anything for her.
“We went to a Dennis event four years ago at Rivier

Dennis Kucinich? Hastert? Miller?
I suddenly got the fear of god in me that I drink alcohol too often and that Chicago has been a bad influence on me.
If you drink too often, then the rest of CHILX are incorrigible raging alcoholics.
kucinich.
I’ve been spelling squeegee wrong. It’s not “squeejee.”
Maybe you could remember it because squeegees are icons of NYC street life, and there was no better chronicler of NYC street life than...
You should probably get her some roses and chocolates and all of that.
Madd1e sent me this for a VD card.
then the rest of CHILX are incorrigible raging alcoholics.
*sound of nail being hit on head*
xp Ha.
I do not want a vd card, or anything related to vd at all.
John, You have all day to think of something. Or hey, what if you planned a surprise of some sort for her for some other day when she least expected it? Or you could offer to pay her back for the tickets...
Jordan, Is it ok that I found that hilarious?
It’s ok, I found it pretty hilarious too.
Or you could offer to pay her back for the tickets...
I don’t think this would work.
Or hey, what if you planned a surprise of some sort for her for some other day when she least expected it?
I told her I’d make it up to her.
The tickets were $5 each. It would seem petty.
Anyway, I’ll think of something. I don’t want to turn this into a big old debate about what I should do.
then the rest of CHILX are incorrigible raging alcoholics
I have always had a pretty huge fear of getting addicted to something, especially due to extended family history. I was fiercely self-righteous growing up when it came to alot of things and it’s taking me a very long time to calm the fuck down about them. So I apologize for coming off as a bitch sometimes.
gimme whatever.
My Saturday afternoon:
Smoked Rattlesnake Sausage with Blueberry-Port Sauce and Smoked Gouda Cheese
- $7.50
Jordan—real rattlesnake??
What is IO, by the way?
formerly improv olympics.
until the international olympic organization threatened to sue them into oblivion.
Sarah, I hope so!
(it’s on the Hot Doug’s menu)
Sarah, you’re not being a bitch! Sorry to sound snarky.
Yeah, IO = ImprovOlympic. We’re seeing TJ and Dave, who are supposed to be the best improvisers in the city, according to my improv friends. We tried to go a couple months ago but didn’t realize it was something that routinely sold out, so we were turned away at the box office.
So I apologize for coming off as a bitch sometimes.
when has this happened, ever?
ok, serious question: “Cut loose like a deuce” vs. “Wrapped up like a douche”?
The former.
But why would anyone ever say that?
I guess I worry that sometimes I cross the line from coming off a little prudish to just being a bitch, but also I tend to worry too much, so you can just ignore that.
if you’re asking about “blinded by the light” it’s “revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night”.
it’s “revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night”
but springsteen says “cut loose like a deuce”. I think I like that better.
Who wraps up a douche? Worst Valentine’s present ever (FYI, John).
but springsteen didn’t write the song.
rockist.
“This Valentines Day, give her the gift of freshness.”
