TROLL 2

HEY I didn’t get a chance to say goodbye to Amanda or Kenan or Askance J.. We were outside w/ John and a cab came and we got in it. So goodbye! I had a delightful time.

And Tehresa! It was great to meet you! <3<3<3

<3

x2

It was very nice to meet Tehresa for me as well, though I must admit, she looks and acts and is as intelligent and engaging as I expected. I think I’ve known her online for so long (six or seven years, at least), and know so much about her that I would have been MORE surprised to be surprised. If that makes sense.

it was really nice to meet/see you all! you are all treats.

You’re right, I am a treat.

Call him “tastycakes” from now on. That would make me laugh.

<3 TZA <3

We had fun: it’s official.

<3

Anyone who feels like showing up at Burke’s and watching football with me is very welcome to. More than welcome. Encouraged.

TZA, it was a pleasure.

Jenny, our gchat was hilarious—that last line was exquisite.

Sorry to have missed Saturday nite drinks.

R, K8s, and I went to brunch at JAM in the square yesterday morning, twas good and all but maybe still some growing pains? One to watch for sure.

That reminds me — @ fountainhead there was a guy I saw out of the corner of my eye several times who I thought was you, and everyone agreed that it did sort of resemble you, but that you were way cooler. He was kinda stuffy.

lol

Oh and this might be of interest to Nick at least, but maybe jvc and others? It’s the internet posting of the final album by the predecessor band to my friends’ group SAH that you saw... more noise pop/rocky and with a real singer but with many of the same elements.

hey remember when we used to have our blog? those were different times, eh. i was just thinking that we should compile a chilxors favorite things 2011 mix but where would we put it?

thanks dan, i’ll give that a listen later

are you thinking music or things, amanda?

music — i don’t actually have any favorite things from 2011

like “products” or w/e

I’m going to give that Shady Hinting Shady a listen later as well, sounds interesting. I’d be curious to know what the chilxors liked this year.

i feel like most of my favorite albums or whatever this year are pretty boring choices, things i see lots of other people liking, but maybe i can think of a few underrated albums or songs

where should we gather these things? should we do only new or also new-to-you?

no bashfulness, just music you bugged over in 2011

lowest-tech option would just be a shared google doc with links to youtubes?

but will anyone listen to them that way?

should we each choose 3 tracks?

will jesse choose the same antlers song 3x?

will anyone listen to my songs if they are over 15 min long?

dunno, sure, probably, sure

Ok then

* three tracks

* find a youtube or link of some kind

remaining questions:

* only new in 2011 or also new-to-you? either is ok with me.

* who’s gonna make the doc

i’d be ok with a grooveshark or spotify playlist also, though not everyone has spotify

we could include spotify/grvshrk links in addition to youtube links?

if it’s only three songs i think i can manage

i’ll try to stick to released in 2011 unless someone tells me otherwise (afaic this includes comps of previously unavailable material and/or available only in difficult to collect formats — like the mark mcguire comp and my old friends at soundway)

i think i am done with my list tbh, if i only get 3 songs!!

I will participate.

I am also looking forward to sharing my best-of-2011 playlist on Spotify.

I’ll contribute three songs, that shouldn’t be a problem.

WHAT IF THERE IS OVERLAP

i made a spreadsheet, so far dan, john, and amanda can edit. jon, email me at naamme at gmail if you want me to add you as well, i don’t have your email. or you can put it in here if you are ok with that.

dammit i just did too

first come first dibs

someone else chose yr song, boo hoo choose another one

here’s the link to view, anyone who wants to be able to edit it needs to let me know

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AlI79Z6eAgusdGxTcHB0Z1VEZjBxMFZ5X01nbUJpRnc

xpost are we using mine or amanda’s?

YOURS

i changed the title of mine to FORGET THIS

haha

i feel like most of my favorite albums or whatever this year are pretty boring choices, things i see lots of other people liking

P. much but I’ll look over my playlists and see what I can find.

Oh wait I’ve got one already!

i also made the font larger and more orange on yours because i want it to look less like a work doc and more like fun :)

sent my email to n/a

added u

thanking u

Dammit, my one song is from 2010. Fuck!!! FUCK!

I’ve narrowed it down to like a dozen.

I hate music.

My second choice was also released in 2010.

2011: the year the music died.

I’m going to put all Pit Bull songs.

As usual, I am overthinking this. Should I focus on songs that you guys probably have not heard?

I’ll see what I can do but, yeah, I fear all my choices would be boring, like PJ Harvey.

Listening to the cosmic dead as we speak and enjoying it.

i personally am focusing on the maybe less-heard, more underrated songs i liked (so i look cooler) but you should do what you want

Hahaha, oh shit, two of my songs are eliminated. Well, only one was an exact repeat, but I feel like it would be silly to just throw on another track from the same album.

that psychic paramount album is amazing

I have been really lame wrt new music this year but I think I can remember up some favorites.

Yeah I was going to throw up another Psychic Paramount track and THE SAME EXACT Cosmic Dead track.

DONE

i left psychic paramount for nick because he was the one who told me to listen to it!!

Should I focus on songs that you guys probably have not heard?

this is what i did

HAHA sorry jvc

that song rules though amirite

you are very rite, glad to see someone else liking it tbh

Are we okay with live stuff that was just released this year?

sorry dudes. having trouble deciding on a third song.

Blargh, I am already regretting the one song I put up. Can I get like 10 songs?

this doesn’t have to be done today

i decided hastily, as i do with virtually every task of this nature — just give us three songs you liked and you think we will like from 2011

if we want a round 2, we can do a round 2!!

Yeah, I’m going to have to add mine tonight. Can’t find YouTube links for a couple of mine and I’m having trouble accessing my Spotify.

OK, I included Yuck b/c it’s probably my #1 song of the year, even though probably everyone that would like it has already heard it.

OK I am happy with my choices for now.

it’s funny to see the spreadsheet update while looking at it,

jmc I accidentally erased one of yr entries for Yuck but I think I fixed it correctly

Oh yeah, it looks fine.

other stuff i was thinking about: liturgy, action bronson. destroyer “kaputt” is probably my album of the year. worried i’m forgetting stuff because we lost some albums when our old hard drive died. sarah’s going to contribute too btw.

don’t think i’ve heard “the laziest river” though!

u guys srsly that youth lagoon album... it’s one of those that makes me embarrassed to like it as much as I do

I think my top albums are Destroyer, Toro y Moi, and Bon Iver.

Which are all plundering ’80s soft rock in various ways.

i am not listening to bon iver ever again if i can help it

i don’t know if i’ve ever heard any of his stuff; i think i just assumed i wouldn’t like it but maybe i was wrong

i made extra columns for listener comments and complaining

the only bon iver song I know is “skinny love” and they once played it while I was browsing in a bookstore and I will admit to being moved by it.

i look forward to listening to these while i am at the office today

ha ha our VP just walked through the library while i was listening to the laziest river and she probably thought i was jamming out to smooth jazz

Ha. I was pretty indifferent to the first Bon Iver album, but I kind of love the new one. And I also take some glee in the fact that a lot of dudes who were down with Vernon’s lo-fi strummy heartsick cabin songs can’t wrap their heads around the adult-contemporary signifiers.

Is there a setting I need to change on my end? Its only letting me view, not add anything.

i don’t know—i’ve definitely got you enabled to edit

Works fine now, maybe I just needed to close and reopen it.

I’ll think of a third song later. But for now I’m listening and enjoying!

i don’t think my comments column is going to work because you will have to identify yourself after each comment, which could be a PITA

well anyway, this came together nicely

good job everyone

Updated my Falloch, realized I linked to the wrong track.

Amanda, have you heard much Lindstrom?

Nope. Should I?

Okay, I uploaded my three tracks. Was originally going to put up one of the Hebden/Reid/Gustafsson live tracks, but couldn’t narrow it down to which one.

damn that album is SO GOOD

i was gonna put one on there too — lyman place (?) is the only one that’s < 10 min

xxp I think you might like some of his stuff, maybe? Norwegian “space-disco.” Cosmic pulses. Etc. Where You Go I Go Too is the one that people usually enthuse over — it’s probably his most focused work — but I actually prefer his most recent collab with Prins Thomas, titled II.

Here is a track:

(Fun fact: I sampled the bass line for my cover of Usher’s “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love.”)

That’s a great album, I really love Lindstrom, particularly both albums with Prins Thomas.

my connection at work is slow (wonder if people are watching jersey shore in the library again? hm?) so i have had trouble listening to these songs very efficiently

argh

ok i have now officially jammed many of these jams. thanks for submitting!

also i would like to encourage anyone to participate even if you think your choices are not partic exciting or obscure or whatever you think they should be but aren’t. if nothing else it’s a funny little archive.
