i really can’t stress enough how funny the michael irvin thing is, you have to hear the audio if you haven’t already. he starts cracking himself up halfway into it a la GWB. i think the most shocking thing was his assertion that romo is such a magnificent athlete, but I’m sure he’d have a difft opinion if he wasn’t a Cowboy.
I’ve only seen the Falcons play once (vs Browns) but what I saw of their receivers was simply amazing. Never, in history, have so many been so open and caught so few.
Ally totally OTM about Eisen and Mariucci. I seriously think Eisen is always always high.
oh noes at tedious midwesterners and their enthusiasm, the rubes! the bears would have won if griese was in there, because the bears are much better than the pats if you put in a QB whose good stats weren’t padded early on in the season. i’m not sure what griese ever did to deserve getting passed over for plummer, li’l simms, and whoever replaced him in miami. did he not have a good gameface? did he have the elvis grbac-style perpetual wince?
omg Reggie White
i’d be more impressed with the asians if they could turn a watch into a television.
i sincerely apologize to all tedious midwesterners—if you could’ve just seen these bears fans, they were total douches, really.
Well, for one thing they were Bears fans!
the bears would have won if griese was in there, because the bears are much better than the pats if you put in a QB whose good stats weren’t padded early on in the season
you are obviously on drugs. yes, put in the qb who couldn’t win the job in camp, hasn’t played all year, and put him in against the 2nd rated defense in the nfl. that would make complete sense.
griese, i am guessing, would not have thrown dumb deep ball INTs. mostly because he doesn’t have an arm, lol.
it was embarrassing to watch rex underthrow on those passes. and again, no need for a hail mary with just under two minutes left.
thing is he hadn’t been completing the short ones either. i’m sure the bears thinking was: there’s no way grossman can come close to executing this 2 min drive so why not throw it deep and hope for another bullshit pass interference call.
i don’t think any of this matters, the chargers will probably win it all.
i enjoy the work of the chargers and wouldn’t be disappointed to see them will it all—but marty schottenheimer is their coach and he is a playoff bed-shitter.
my feeling is the patriots should acquire randy moss and win the super bowl
that would delight me for so many different reasons.
Acquiring Randy Moss is maybe the only possible thing the Patriots could do to make me like them!
holy shit, reg
Hispanics are gifted in family structure. You can see a Hispanic person and they can put 20 or 30 people in one home.
and you were calling me a crazy person for asking them to hire mariucci last week!
Well, wait a second, I mean saying “anything is better” doesn’t mean that that is still not completely batshit insane.
xpost that is actually true, Dan. As a halfer, I am more comfortable with only about 10 people living with me at one time, though.
behind every great clown car routine is a hispanic structure
Why did God make the next guy Korean and the next guy Asian
hahaha what.
I wish I could be gifted in the spirituality.
Worship and celebration aren’t enough???! Asian and Korean people can turn their faces into hearts, I aspire to that one.
And you look at the Indians, they have been very gifted in the spirituality.
xp
which indians do you think he’s referring to?
Cleveland
Frat boys are VERY VERY gifted in the family structure, because they can put 20 or 30 in one phone booth.
hahahahaha from the link:
I remember watching the show, real popular show, Touched by an Angel, and I remember the angel lost her powers. And the reason she lost her powers is she was trying to help a drug dealer and she lost her powers there and they thought she was dealing drugs. But they took her to court and the judge started asking her questions, and so she asked the judge a question, why is it that when we talk to God we call it praying, but when God talks to us they call us crazy.
So I just want you to know I’m not crazy. Okay. But in the process of knowing that — I lost my train of thought ..... where I was going with that? Where was I going? What did I say?
wait, so, she went to GOD COURT?
I don’t even know anymore!
And I’ll never forget the times we were doing it. We went to two old ladies’ houses. We asked to use their electricity because we had speakers, and both of the old ladies, I’ll never forget, they asked the question, what are you doing down here? We said, well, we feel like we’ve been called down here, and both of them said, man, we’ve been praying for something like this.
And I remember going into the communities and just talking to the people and preaching to them and did it for two years, and after that two years I realized something. People are tired of being preached to.

wait that was supposed to also have the snippet of him saying that Mexicans sleep 400 to a house. fuck.
bond, mexican james bond.
that flybeds.com site is simply amazing. Everything is a bed- bars, tables, computer desks.
A+++ WILL SLEEP WITH EXTENDED F@MILY @G@IN
er, flyingbeds.com
And I remember going into the communities and just talking to the people and preaching to them and did it for two years, and after that two years I realized something. People are tired of being preached to.
only took two years to find that out? god i wish i could play high stakes cards with someone like that.
Vick has been in the league five or six years now and what you see is what you get—a marginally better version of Kordell Stewart. I know his receivers aren’t the best, but he seems to lack any sort of touch. I’m also sick and tired of this cliché, “Vick is the most feared offensive player in football.” Really!! If you were an offensive coordinator who would you rather plan for? Vick or say Peyton Manning.
Wait, which Dirty Vicar is this?
My bad. If there is another one I’ll change my log-in name.
vick is ten times the player k. stewart ever was
The stats are a lot closer than you think. Maybe it can be blamed on the coaching changes, switching the offensive schemes, or receivers with hands of concrete, but what would worry me if I were a Falcons fan is the decline from 2004 to 2006.
The stats are from www.pro-football-reference.com.

Crap puter skills. Anyway the bottom line is this:
Kordell Stewart Career
Total Games: 126
Completions: 1316
Attempts: 2358
Percentage: 55.8
Yards: 14746
Average YD: 6.3
TDs: 66
INTs: 84
Michael Vick Career
Total Games: 69
Completions: 876
Attempts: 1634
Percentage: 53.6
Yards: 10801
Average YD: 6.6
TDs: 64
INTs: 48
Vick is a better passer in TDs vs. INTs catagory, but their completion percentages/yards per completion are close. Vick is the better runner as you’d expect with a total of 3701 rushing yards vs. Stewart’s 2874.
I think many people are forgetting Brian Griese got run out on a rail in Denver because of his lack of clutchitude, which is why the Broncos eventually brought the Snake out of the desert. The Broncos needed someone who would not fold when the games got tight and Griese was too blase to get the job done (or at least that is how I remember the talking heads played it out). Griese played really well in stretchs with Denver and had a couple of good games before he got hurt last year. Griese’s career completion percentage is pretty good, but the guy has gotten hurt when he plays well and blew some big games with throwing interceptions.
I still don’t quite get wanting to pull the trigger on Grossman.
I think Chicago’s problem is their play calling. The Bears got greedy after having success going deep early in the year and have gone too many times to the well. They need to get more screens working, as that could crack things open a bit more for the running game and help the deep passing game. The problem is that Grossman has is like Eli Manning and Vick in that they are inconsistent throwing the short passes.
Vick’s recievers are pretty cruddy, but he also seems to do a bit of the Farve thing for throwing some balls so damn hard they freaking bounce off the players. It is funny how a month ago Vick was turning into this superhuman QB and now he is flipping off the fans. Watching how Vick carries the ball scares me far more than him throwing the ball. I looked it up and MV fumbles are actually down this year, but everytime he runs palming the ball, I cringe.
Kordell had a couple of decent years. Stewart took alot of blame for those Steelers losses that were tied to their special teams doing stupid stuff. They lost a couple of big playoff games giving up returns for TDs and fumbling the ball away in bad moments. Slash wasn’t all that, but he took more than his fair share of the blame. I got to think if Stewart would have stayed as Slash/WR, he might be still in the league and could be “Hines Ward” instead of a failed QB.
lol who is this immeasurable dipshit. did you post on ilnfl? i do not recall u. it is pretty lol that u would say he has declined since 04 since he is a remarkably better and more polished player now. back then he made arm throws even when not being pressured; now he steps up in the pocket, squares his shoulders and throws off his front foot, and even when he’s on the run he sets his feet before throwing. you can clearly see him progressing through all his reads before taking off now, instead of just looking for the first option and running if alge’s not open. and if you wanna talk about schemes you may want to mention that the falcons’ offensive coordinator DOESN’T ALLOW VICK TO AUDIBLE. seriously, think about that shit. he can change the direction of a run play to the right or left, but that’s it. it doesn’t matter what the defense is showing at the line, he has to run whatever the fuck they tell him to.
the canard i’ve been hearing lately about his lack of touch drives me apeshit too, cuz you will seriously see guys claiming that he’s hurling nolan ryan fastballs on 2 yd dumpoffs even when it’s demonstrably untrue. i dont wanna turn this into a capn save a vick thread (lol too late) but none of the dudes talking shit abt him ever want to own up to what they’re actually thinking: they don’t like him because he has braids and wears a do-rag. actually the entire ‘he guns it too hard’ thing is a perfect example of this, it’s like some karl rove-ish master stroke of disinformation. brett favre’s been breaking receivers’ fingers for his entire career and nobody ever gave him any shit over it. Things I’ve heard said about MV (usually by herbish white people with suspect facial hair): he’s too stupid to read defenses, he’s a tattooed thug, he’s a bad leader. and it’s not just, like, Cletus Boogityfuck saying this shit, it’s people in the public eye who aren’t being called on it! (white) people look at him like they do Iverson, except Vick’s assumed a role on his team much more commonly held by good ol’ boys. and it’s not like there aren’t a lot of legitimate criticisms to be made of him (ball: meet turf!) it’s when people say stuff like he’s TOO STUPID to read defenses (as opposed to mensa candidates dan marino and brett favre???) that they reveal what they are actually talking about.
“I looked it up and MV fumbles are actually down this year, but everytime he runs palming the ball, I cringe.”
can’t argue with this tho :( also ppl forget that Vick is still 26 years old (one year older than eazy eli), so uh hey. sky’s the limit!
“Stewart took alot of blame for those Steelers losses that were tied to their special teams doing stupid stuff.”
haha that has been the story this year too. you could attribute most of their losses this year, besides Oakland and Baltimore, to special teams—specifically their inability to find a player, any player, who can field a punt. randle-el = the fulcrum upon which steelers success rested???
vick is so much better too because he’s the best runner the QB position has ever seen and it’s not even close, dude could get 1200 yds rushing this year if i remember the stats right. he could improve a lot yeah but i’d rather have him on my team than eli (or rex) ; (
vick has exactly two problems w/his game: inaccuracy and injuries. his running has, to a certain extent, allowed him to overcome his lack of accuracy—at times he’s even been dominant. all that running, of course, leads to the injuries. it seems pretty obvious that as he ages, the cumulative punishment he’s received will limit his ability to run, degrading his overall effectiveness as a quarterback.
total downer.
I don’t think I hate Vick as much as I’m supposed to as a Saints fan. That shit on Sunday wasn’t really his fault—but the way he chews on his mouthguard, that shit makes me crazy. YOU’RE ON TV.
The funny thing about all of the current QB roasting of Plummer, Vick, Eli and Grossman that is going on is that Roffelsberger (19 interceptions, 2 lost fumbles) has probably played worse than ALL OF THEM. Of course, the Steelers are on the “screw it, we won it last year tour” this season anyway.
I think the Bucs are still on their victory lap. Old Chucky is not looking too happy these days. I personally do enjoy for watching some coaches get comeuppance. I’m still ticked about that crap roughing the QB call earlier this year pretty much handing Tampa their upset of the Bengals. I wonder how many games have had these flag football on the QB calls be key plays in the final outcome?
yeah, Vick’s running is unbelievable. (the critics Ade’s talking about always seem to want to play that up like it takes away from his quarterbackliness, though—ugh.) I don’t understand the criticism coming directly after the Saints game, either; he was amazing, I thought, and his receivers totally let him down.
ade otm about vick in many ways, rosalind on right track (but he does still throw too hard(
I haven’t seen Vick play enough to really judge, but there is a fundamental problem with his game. The NFL game is all about coaches designing schemes and players executing them well. Quarterbacks need to be good decision-makers and execute well (or very well).
But the kind of schemes that fit Vick’s style of play don’t seem to work consistently on the NFL level. Maybe the NFL game will change, but Vick may be past his prime at that point.
Vick’s assumed a role on his team much more commonly held by good ol’ boys. and it’s not like there aren’t a lot of legitimate criticisms to be made of him (ball: meet turf!) it’s when people say stuff like he’s TOO STUPID to read defenses (as opposed to mensa candidates dan marino and brett favre???) that they reveal what they are actually talking about.
Argh come on, I’m getting really sick of this argument. I don’t personally think he’s too stupid for any of it, just incredibly bad at throwing a ball (combo of the Eli inconsistency on the short + the Favre BREAK YA FINGAS YAAAAAAAAHH thing previously mentioned, you can’t do BOTH of those with a bunch of shitty receivers and have me even care about you), but ffs everyone I know who thinks Vick is terrible or stupid likes Donovan McNabb and Warren Moon. The only thing revealed by such a statement is that some people just want their QBs to be QBs, not frigging RBs. Though the idea of just putting 11 RBs out there as your offense is pretty funny :D
though the argument that Vick is like the same person as Kordell Stewart is stupider than Vick, Marino, Favre, and the “too stupid to play football” argument combined.
i’m not completely sure marino wasn’t too stupid to play football, to be fair.
HEY GUYS, DO YOU LIKE POT ROASTS???
In fairness, he does hold every record that ever existed in the history of football. I’m not sure what that implies vis a vis intelligence cos he really does seem like a total dingbat.
The whole argument that anyone is too stupid to play QB is kind of a funny one to me, thinking about it. Montana is like the biggest advertisement for brain injury I’ve seen that is still walkin’ and talkin’ in society. The only people I can possibly even remotely think of in terms of this comparison is like, Manning or Troy Aikman? And the correct word for Manning is not “smart” but rather “obsessive compulsive bordering on Howard Hughes.”
i’m beginning to think you have to be an idiot to succeed at QBing. does this mean perhaps eli the secret brains behind the manning operation?
How unfair when you have noted intellect Terry Bradshaw to stand up for the QBs.
that supercuts commercial terrifies me, btw. “let’s have a look at you!” dude just wants a hair coloring and bradshaw looks a little too eager.
Almost any commercial starring a retired player frightens me. What is going on in those tv ads with Marino where he has this crazy lair of QBs hiding in his house? Creeeeeeeepy.
I thought the police finally broke up the QB lair? shit was going down last I heard.
you know those isolated houses where old rich white dudes and republican congressmen hang out and rape the shit out of 14 yr olds and watch snuff films starring runaways? it’s kinda like that, i think.
No, no I don’t know those houses. I don’t know what kind of person y’all think I am, but I am not involved in that kind of shenanigans, no matter what anyone says.
there’s like some 13 tzameti type shit going on out in them woods and boomer esiason is all over it.
HEY GUYS, whatever happened to Bo Jackson?

has his own Running Back lair, last I heard
Jackson’s legend was further cemented in a most unlikely manner—a video game. His digital counterpart in Tecmo Super Bowl for the Nintendo Entertainment System, affectionally known as “Tecmo Bo” in the hardcore TB playing circuit, is the most lethal running back — and arguably the most lethal athlete — in video game history[2]. Easily capable of putting up 300–400 yards per game via his incredible speed and tackle-breaking ability, “Tecmo Bo” was a man to be feared. Jackson has commented that fans will often come up to him and regale him with stories not of his actual football feats, but rather memorable Tecmo Bowl plays [3]. Bo also had his own video game for the original Game Boy portable gaming system, Bo Jackson’s Hit and Run. The game featured both baseball and football, but had no pro licenses for either sport and could not use any team or players’ names. Released around the same time was Bo Jackson Baseball for the Nintendo NES system and IBM compatible computers. The game was heavily criticized by game reviewers and obtained poor sales results.
poor bo and his degenerative hip. i remember after he retired from football he was still playing baseball, i saw him hit a dinger against the bosox and he ran around the bases like he was dragging a dead limb. bill buckner could’ve beaten him around the bases and billy buck was probably 49 by that point. it was sad.
I love that QBs and offensive linemen get all this attention and hype about being THE SMARTERTS DURDS ON TH’ TURFS when really the most successful offenses are just memorize->regurgitate. it seems to me like defensive players have to pay just as much if not more attention to the topography on most downs plus you’ll never convince me that what LAUDED GENIUSEES such as the Pmanning and Tbrady do week after week is somehow more complex and demanding of high Wonderlic scores than last year’s Steelers/this year’s Ravens’ blitz schemes.
lol @ tecmo super bo
never convince me that what LAUDED GENIUSEES such as the Pmanning and Tbrady do week after week is somehow more complex and demanding of high Wonderlic scores than last year’s Steelers/this year’s Ravens’ blitz schemes.
well, see, what a (successful) quarterback has to do is RECOGNIZE those complex blitz schemes and adjust to them on the fly. so while the defensive player has all year to learn his team’s plan the opponent has a week or so. if the qb can’t make those adjustments you turn into drew bledsoe. who has a more powerful arm than either manning or brady and is just as accurate but he can’t recognize and decide quickly enough.
HOLY SHIT TECMO BO WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE
xpost I’m pretty convinced one day Tom Brady is going to turn out to actually have been a serial killer.
nah, being a serial killer would actually put some sort of edge on brady’s milquetoast character.

dr z. nuggets:
16) Atlanta Falcons (5–6)
It’s like choosing up sides in a stickball game. On one side there’s Jim Mora Sr., the coach’s father, who agrees that Michael Vick is a “coach breaker.” Captain of the other team is Vick himself, who shot the crowd the double-bird after he was booed. A recent entry on the Vick team is owner Arthur Blank, who told CBS’s Tony Siragusa, by way of deflecting criticism from his QB, “I’ve got three No. 1 wide receivers and none of them can catch the ball.” Then there are the TV experts such as Irvin who feel that Vick should “just be allowed to play the game,” you know, as they do in the schoolyard. And on the other side, a whole bunch of stern faced types who say, no, quarterbacking is a trade to be learned, like glassblowing or metal working. Stick around. It’s getting good.
32) Detroit Lions (2–9)
Someone sits in a little public address booth, giggling to himself, and when the visiting Dolphins’ defense is introduced, he gets ex-Lion QBs Joey Harrington’s name thrown in, to achieve the full flavor of the boos, and just to make the thing more nasty, he arranges it so that Billy Joel’s “Piano Man” comes over the loud speaker. Harrington plays the piano. Now the Lions are in total denial. No one claims responsibility, of course, although the finger of guilt is being leveled at a guy called Bryan Bender, their Director of Broadcast and Production. What a team! What an operation! I wish I could move this team down to 35th spot or so.
it’s always the milquetoasts who turn out to have fifteen bodies in the basement, though!
Arizona Cardinals (2–9)
Before their off-season signing of Edgerrin James, what do you think would have happened if they’d have said, “Well, Edge, old boy, when we play the Vikings in November, you’ll carry the ball around four times ... yeah, that’s right, four ... for, let’s say 15 yards.” I can only guess, but it would have been more dramatic if they were going to pay him by the yard.
xpost horseshoe totally OTM.
Sweet! I have something to look forward to!
“Argh come on, I’m getting really sick of this argument. well I mean... those guys (mcnabb & moon*) are a lot less \hiphop than Vick. I think the fact that he’s always wearnig white tees, do-rags, the tats, hair in braids, the way he talks, this stuff is as big a factor as the blackness. I hope I’m not making it sound like I’m admonishing ppl who aren’t fans of his cuz that’s not what I’m trying to do, I mean there are times when I wish he played a little more like McNabb. if you think the guy’s a bum then that’s cool, I have no compunction when it comes to saying that about a shitload of dudes! i just think there’s a lot of racialists who use the fact that it’s easy and acceptable right now to dump on his game as an excuse to say a lot of suspect things.
*moon has a hot white supermodel wife though. that’s pretty gangsta.
Woah aidsy no where in my post did I say anything about Vick not being smart enough to play quarterback and being black has nothing to do with my criticism. In fact I’d like Vick to succeed. Despite all his problems he’s still one of the most fun players to watch. But he has fallen off since 2004. His completion percentage has dropped 56.4 to 51.2 and his QB rating fell from 78 to 72. This is after making really huge strides in his first four years in the NFL. I also don’t think Vick is the only problem with the Falcons. They look like a team on the decline.
I’m also no fan of Lord Brett trying to always force the ball into double and triple coverage. Now that’s the definition of stupid.
Forcing the ball into double/triple coverage and ignoring the open TE in the seam is NOT the definition of stupid, that is the definition of EXCITING!!!! ACTION/ADVENTURE!!!! WTF I’m from fucking Bama and I went to school with Peyton, why you people think I’m a GIANTSMANS FAN*?
*besides Brandon The Barbarian
Yeah, Rottensberger has been real “exciting” this year. Taking pages outta the Farve playbook. Oh shit another INT. I don’t think my heart can take anymore.
Maybe I’ll comapare him to Kordell and start another shitstorm from rabid Burgh fans.
If I keep it up I’m well on the way to becoming the Geir Hongro of ilnfl.
Who are you anyway?
I’m a Pittsburgh fan who used to also follow the Browns. This was before Art Modell loaded up the moving vans and spirited the team away to Baltimore. Went to several Browns games and sat in the Dog Pound. Good times. Saw Bernie Kosar and his strange throwing motion carve up several NFL teams. Made me realize that all the talk about throwing mechanics is often bunk. Results are what matter. I’ve never really warmed to the Browns mark II so now mostly follow the Steelers. Fave players are Rocky Blier, Jack Lambert, Franco Harris, Bernie Kosar, Ozzie Newsome, Larry Csonka, Earl Campbell, and Hines Ward. Fave newer player is Vince Young. I was skeptical about him on the old ilnfl, but last couple of weeks I’m starting to feel the love. He might, just might turn into the player everyone’s expecting Vick to be. Still way too early to tell though.
As a Pittsburgh fan I’m obligated to hate the Ravens. It’s been harder this year because I really do like McNair. After the way he was chucked out of Tennessee he deserves a shot at the Superbowl. Since the Steelers have thrown their chances away I’m rooting for the Saints as the sentimental favorites.
Dude, hating the Ravens is the most sensible thing you’ve said this entire thread. Hive fives to you, that team is like a toothless whore.

“Are you a responsible journalist? Look me in the eye and ask me this question, please, the way that you want to ask it.”
Ally, perhaps you’re not familiar with the full range of human sexual expression, but toothlessness in whores has its appeal.
HI I sent this msg out to the fantasy league and mentioned earlier but got better plan now so figured would post. Being able to move ILNFL is basically 100% easy, would look/work v. similar to this, be housed elsewhere by Tom and I. But b4 I put any effort into this I kind of want to know if ppl would follow.
enjoyed: strahan’s nervous eating during edgy interaction w/reporter.
I’m thar, Ms. Eisenschlereth.
Sure, I’m in.
OK! And to reassure everyone, I am not drunk with power, all mods will be restored. It’ll take a little while but Tom and I will get crackin on it.

FOLLOW ME! FOLLOW ME TO FREEDOM!
I’m repeating myself from the DC thread with this joke but:

msg from LK to Browns/Steelers fan: you better straighten up and fly right!!
