I was in college with Dominic West, who is the lead in the Wire. Strange fact.
2. of all the man-candy on the island, he is the Great Romantic,
It’s true. Not only did he make himself a little relationship with Shannon, he just has teh sadness suffusing everything he does. Him and Hurley both. I would watch a show where Sayid and Hurley fought crime together.
i am seeing mcnulty on stage on thursday.
HEY FUCKERS STOP POSTING HEROES SPOILERS IN THE LOST THREAD SOME OF US ARE STILL DOWNLOADING IT
i’m not quite down with all this Sayid love. he hasn’t done anything of real interest for a long time. i know this isn’t really HIS fault but... i have no idea where his backstory is going either—this doesn’t seem a good thing but maybe it’ll be interesting.
no one has posted any heroes spoilers, no worries.
xpost
SPOILER: Sayid is awesome.
his backstory, the fact it links with kate’s dad and dharma geezer, is awesomes.
someone did post a heroes article discussion lost with a major spoiler in it
discussing lost
I think the point is that when Sayid is doing proper stuff and it’s his turn to be the story, he is great and compelling because you want to know more about him as a character and because he has an air of mystery about him. Jack, on the other hand, who is in the frame almost all the time, is not interesting and I wouldn’t care if I didn’t know anything else about his life.
The people I am interested in: Libby (admittedly, dead), Juliet, Sayid, Hurley, Locke, Alex, Desmond and Benry.
People I like but don’t need to know any more about back story from: Sun, Jin, Charlie.
People I don’t care about either on the island or before it: everyone else.
having said that, which characters still have a lot of intrigue/unsolved riddles re their backstories? NOT Jack because we don’t give a shit about the tattoos—i mean what else is there to reveal about him now? ditto Kate and Sawyer.
as far as survivors go it’s still Locke at #1 and the story of his crippledom which they’re dragging their feet on (arf) forever, plus the general ‘belief/i’m special’ thing. Hurley/Libby thing right behind, then probably Claire! so they are the three future flashbacks i’m looking fwd to most (bar Others) now.
he might have a tattoo of a polar bear.
i want Sayid to contract some strange disease which enables him to talk in his Lahndun accent for one episode (wanted this for Eko too). BRING BACK EKO AS OBI-WAN STYLE SPECTRE U TOOLS.
his backstory, the fact it links with kate’s dad and dharma geezer, is awesomes.
xxxxxp yeah, we just need MORE OF IT. less kate, less jack, who gives a shit? i still think eko stole sayid’s thunder.
speaking of diseases, we’re three months into season three and don’t know shit about the sickness
i hate this show
haha... the more i think about it the more angry i get. so i just enter a zen trance of non-thinking when it comes on and it all seems so significant.
I’m only interested in Claire’s backstory if she turns out to be Christian Shepherd’s illegitimate daughter.
and now i’m L O S T!
SPOILERISH:
Claire flashback really soon (3 weeks I think?). According to Emily de Ravin it flashes back to a much younger Claire.
There are still a lot of gaps in the pre-island backstories of a bunch of original 815ers that have been talked about but not touched upon:
Sayid—apparently his father was some kind of Iraqi war hero or something, also all that moving around looking for Nadia
Hurley—THE DECK COLLAPSE and WTF LIBBY obviously
Sawyer—“The Tampa Job”, a (possible) daughter!
Also they need to do some more childhood flashbacks—we’ve seen Jack, Sun, and Sawyer as children (albeit briefly), surely a super distant past flashback could be awesome.
I had meant to say wrt Claire—she may be the only cast member who could convincingly play herself as a teenager (tentative).
she better do it soon.
i wonder if i will ever actually get around to watching all the full-season dvd stuff that i want to watch. all the stuff i missed for whatever reason. veronica mars. the wire. the shield. heroes. too much. too much.
if i told you all why i miss heroes every week you would all laugh at me and i would run away crying.
you’re a scout master aren’t you
no, nothing that scary. i just really enjoy watching 2 & a half men and old christine. there, i said it. i feel better now. except old christine is off for a while and this new horrible show is on with scary david puddy(sp?) from seinfeld. but it wouldn’t make much sense to watch a half hour of heroes. plus, i’ve already missed so much.
I had no idea Julia Louis-Dreyfus even had a new show until she was nominated for a Golden Globe.
i preferred it when you were a scout-master dude
I WANT to catch up on/watch Heroes, I really do. But I can’t get over the fact that every woman on the show has either been (almost) raped or killed to motivate the male heroes. UH. :(
FWIW Jessie there are a few new female characters, and the old female characters’ storylines have gone a bit more respectable-like. Also no recent rape attempts or anything of the ilk.
new horrible show is on with scary david puddy(sp?) from seinfeld
It makes me so sad to see him (Patrick Warburton) on such a shitty show—he is one of the highest-profile cartoon voice actors out there right now, plus he has been really good in other things (the live action version of The Tick esp).
Patrick Warburton is GOLD.
Dr. Invisiwho and his unlaming of Peter will probably push me back into Heroes when I have time to sit down and rewatch the three eps I saw + everything else.
Heroes! I’m on it!
We plow through entire seasons of TV shows in no time at all, 3–4 episodes a night. Stupid, because we binge and then comes the DROUGHT. As soon as they were available on dvd we went through last year’s season of The Wire, Entourage, Deadwood, Extras, Nip/Tuck, all 5 seasons of Six Feet Under and both seasons of the excellent Dead Like Me—ALL BEFORE THANKSGIVING. God, the postpartum depression! The wondering what to do with our evenings! The displeasure at inferior offerings!
Forgot Rome. Just finished all of I, Claudius. How many jonesing Rome-addicts did that? ALL OF THEM.
Yeah, there’s a little groundswell re: Heroes being the new Lost because it comes fast & furious w/ the twists AND puts out, instead of waiting for the right time to make w/ the revelations.
Yeah. I’m getting a little tired of all of the ponderous Jack/Kate/Sawyer action. If the Bai Ling ep is as bad as I suspect it will be, it might be the time I finally tune out.
would anyone mind if i changed all the lyrics to the song ‘Turtle Power’ so they were about Lost-related stuff instead?
it’s worth noting that I read somewhere that Kring took his idea for Heroes to Lindelhoff who admits he got really envious of the concept “because it was so simple” or something.
anyway this was a really good episode, surprisingly. there are so many loose threads and dangling plotlines stretching back over a the past two seasons that the show has been really frustrating. this didn’t address any of them really but it was a good break. I do think the show has probably one more season left in it though; or they should try to answer most of the questions that are outstanding and introduce something else.
Did this episode feel a lot like a Star Trek ep to anyone else? If they did more crazy one-off-ish eps like this, I could actually see this show going on much longer, albeit as a Very Good Show, as opposed to The Best Show On TV, which it honestly hasn’t been since season 1.
season 1 LOST was like that star trek episode “shore leave” every week!
xxpost
misread ...dangling plotlines....
as
dangling “panties”
cannot stop lolling.
we need a thread where everyone can log out and post about grey’s anatomy anonomously.

I am about 16 episodes behind and have not read this thread but has anyone ever come up with a drinking game for LOST?
I’m thinking one of the challenges would be three drinks for every time someone trips while chasing someone/something in the forest.
Dude there are so many drinking games for LOST, I’ve lost count (because i’m DRUKN).
- everytime Sawyer zings/gives a nickname/reads a book/looks at Kate with goo-ey eyes
- JACK FACE!
- someone trips in the forest
- TEH NUMBERS
- Flashback (if you can anticipate a flashback ie if someone’s expression lingers on the camera, and there’s that wooshing noise, shout “FLASHBACK!” and take two drinks)
- episode opens with someone’s eye opening
- Hurley sez “Dude”.
etc.
Grey’s Anatomy: genuinely don’t care. Boring show, pretty people, it’s no ER (which, as I’ve said before, I think I’m the only person still watching after all these years).
Heroes: I just can’t get behind it. I try to like it, I really do, but the acting is so BAD and the woman thing annoys me, and I think maybe Lost is my one and only stupid-supernatural-things-happening show.
Lost: I think it’s a mark of how this once great show has drifted that even here, on the Lost thread, we are talking about other shows. sigh.
but Lost is still good, i think, in spite of everything. at least we can take the piss out of it if nothing else. the talk of other shows has been pissing me off a bit even tho i played my part.
would anyone mind if i changed all the lyrics to the song ‘Turtle Power’ so they were about Lost-related stuff instead?

gwan
To be fair, all Lost needs to do is focus on the group a bit more rather than what’s happening on the periphery. Bit too early for accusations of shark jumping just yet, especially given how awesome the last episode was.
i love the way that lost fans are riled by the heroes chat. i count myself a fan BTW, and chances are i’d like heroes if i got round to watching it—the writers are all best mates or summink.
where are you now, you veronica mars losers :-D
i love the way that lost fans are riled by the heroes chat.
Because is Lost thread, innit?
but the acting is so BAD and the woman thing annoys me
what woman thing?
Heroes is better than Lost. I can fall asleep during Lost and still not miss anything. You can watch all of the Heroes episodes on the NBC website w/o having to download. I didn’t watch it for awhile because everyone who told me it was amazing was an asshole.
I sometimes feel they could stick an episode of Amazing Stories on and I would think it was someone’s flashback.
you can watch LOST on the ABC website.
what woman thing?
The fact that the women are comic-book cliche women, like strippers or cheerleaders and they get to be sexually victimized. Although someone did point out upthread that it’s getting better. I don’t know, I gave up after episode 10, when they actually appeared to save the cheerleader, although maybe they didn’t. I had lost all interest at that stage.
Women be getting deaded a bit more than men, I think.
lousy flashback in tonight’s episode. sawyer letting the kid go == dumbest thing he’s done yet
it was aggravating.
hey island kid, you know lots of stuff, BEAT IT!
hi stewardess, GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!
Did I miss something? What secret was revealed about the island?
The fact that the women are comic-book cliche women, like strippers or cheerleaders and they get to be sexually victimized.
This was my EXACT beef with Heroes and why I gave up after about three episodes.
STOP TALKING ABOUT OTHER SHOWS
that. was a pretty crap episode.
yes. The swelling strings staring into the sky thing at the end was aggravating.
YOU PEOPLE HAVE NO HEART OR SOULS
bai ling and jack w/ the kite and the swelling strings = all time worst moment on entire series
sawyer and kid on log w/ swelling strings = close second
only worthwile two minutes = we know tailies are alive and well
Did I miss something? What secret was revealed about the island?
uh, none
only worthwile two minutes = we know tailies are alive and well
unless you count that as a revelation and “we are here to watch” as a satisfying explanation! guh?
(I guess they were supposed to witness Juliet’s execution?)
I hated this episode
although I liked when sawyer punched carl and told him to cowboy up (possibly Boston Red Sox reference #2435)
cowboy up was a term in use long before that steroid laden fat-ass millar made it their rallying cry.
Bai Ling was trying to rip out Jack’s internal organs using only her tongue.
yeah I was half joking (but only half)
xpost
i hated this episode, but i feel like seeing 20 tailies alive and well is a pretty big jaw-dropper. those two kids had a teddy-bear, too.
nicka’s probably over on nu-ILX pointing out thirty other things that we missed.
My favorite post on thefuselage.com today (a forum I don’t have to re-login onto every fourth post or whatever):
Did you notice that her “mark” looked VERY much like the blacklight hatch map that Locke saw??
I LOVE YOU, LOST FANDS.
nickalicious on Thursday, February 22, 2007 12:36 PM (1 minute ago)
I personally noted: remember when Jin & Eko saw “Others” walking through the jungle, barefoot and hauling a teddy bear? The tail-section children were wearing shoes, and the teddy bear was in decent shape (as opposed to jungle-Others’ teddy bear, mangled and missing a leg). There are still more other Others.
I hope that’s not the last we see of Cindy, I like her.
Also: fuck Bai Ling. I don’t mean like “woohoo bonerz”, I mean fuck her, I hate her.
Anyway, the title (Stranger In A Strange Land) implies that Jack is going to become some kind of spiritual revolutionery among the Others and inspire crazy Martian cult orgies, which I am 1,000% in support of.
correct
oh yeah, so, how useful is marking someone where they marked juliet? do all others functions require lifting up your shirttail before being allowed admittance?
The Others’ purpose on the island is to film a sequel to The Wedding Crashers.
ha ha. you can imagine how that could really change a person.
that was the gayest episode ever.
remember when they talked about how there would be a big shift in one character’s attitude/outlook midway thru this series? i guess they mean Jack may start feeling more sympathetic to the Others now they’re moving him to the village, probably all building up to some ‘kill them or us’ dilemma. tho he’s resisted well so far.
had Jack actually met Alex before this episode?
No, and in fact I don’t think he’s ever been around to hear Rousseau say her stolen baby’s name was Alex, either.
Kate should know who exactly Alex is though, after her adventure with Claire and Rousseau @ the medical hatch.
I like when Karl pulled out the gun and Hurley was all “WOAH!”.
i like dharma mermaids
we have to go back
fuck i have to pick up my sister at the airport tomorrow night so i can not watch finale in real time WHAT AM I GOING TO DO!?!??!
HEY ESTELA DON’T READ AKA SPOILERS AND CONJECTURE
