i don’t think it is in any way possible to imagine such a space in which gender is abolished. and to do so would be to imagine a completely different context for desire from the one we are stuck in. what you are trying to do is p much just as dumb as what you are actually doing.
What am I doing/trying to do? If I were to speak for myself, I’d say that I’m expressing an ideal of a relationship of equals, whatever the gender, one which I think is often roughly descriptive of reality and will become increasingly moreso. Obviously, there is no true and complete equality between any two individuals, and you could argue that most relationships are founded upon one or more forms of inequality, perhaps shifting back and forth between the participants, but I think it’s a useful notion, both descriptively and prescriptively.
This is an ongoing problem, when some people are “speaking academically” from some abstract “intellectual” position and others of us are speaking from the flesh and bone experiences of our actual lives.
I would not and did not claim to be speaking about your life. Why do you insist upon my inability to speak about others’ and my own because it does not match yours?
