give us a best thing and a worst thing so far??

jergins, Friday, 30 April 2010 05:08 (thirteen years ago) link

best: job
worst: commute

tehresa, Friday, 30 April 2010 05:09 (thirteen years ago) link

-most interesting random fact about a person from the best category
-modes of transportation in the worst category

if u would plz

jergins, Friday, 30 April 2010 05:11 (thirteen years ago) link

runner up for worst (only because i have only witnessed this once and commute is 5 or more times/wk): douchey guys on metro on saturday night talking about how they get away with drunk driving, booty calls, and being generally obnoxious and wearing awful clothing/hairstyles (soul patch, gel in hair, acid wash faux distressed ironic 80s jeans, purple button down over t-shirt, etc.).

tehresa, Friday, 30 April 2010 05:11 (thirteen years ago) link

-i heard a pretty juicy rumor from best but it's not professionally responsible to share ;) random fact: lots of people in office are from buffalo or have western ny connections. spooky!
-bussux (only runs every 30 min; randomly skips one route btw 7-8pm which is when i usually get to bus stop, so if i miss 7:16 bus, i have to call for ride or take cab; 30 min cycle also means i get to work 20 min early every day bc that's the only way to get there not late based on bus + metro scheduling). the skinny: it takes me 90 min to get home most nights.

i am going to move soon.

tehresa, Friday, 30 April 2010 05:18 (thirteen years ago) link

oops i misread i thought you asked for worst mode of transport. anyway my modes are: foot, bus, metro.

one year passes...

so yeah, anyone at War on Drugs tonight? probably not. it'll just be me and the band, hanging out, a little bit of me consoling them that no one else showed up for the show, but mainly just learning a lot about one another.

Sorry. Saw North African guitarist Bombino Friday night and yesterday saw actor John Hurt in the overrated one man drama from Samuel Beckett-- “Krapp's Last Tape,”

How was the War on Drugs r n r hotel gig ZS?

Another Suburbanite, Monday, 5 December 2011 15:00 (twelve years ago) link

it was great! i haven't been to a show all by myself in years, but i actually really enjoyed myself. although, unfortunately they ended the set with a cover of the dead's "touch of grey" (i like the dead, but...not that song), which was a bummer.

i felt so sorry for the opener, though (Cat Martino, who apparently has played keyboards for Sharon Van Etten, and also happens to look exactly like Sharron Van Etten, and who made me feel really guilty because of course she had to be really hot and i had to spend the whole set being a guy thinking about she was really hot). the whole set ran way late because of ambiguous "technical problems". when she took the stage, she said that she only had a 1-minute soundcheck, and sure enough, about 30 seconds into her first song her loopstation pedalboard *POPPED* and then went dead. since all of her songs are based around loops that she gradually adds to and subtracts from, she was unable to improvise around the problem. after a few minutes of painfully awkward stage banter (i felt so sorry for her, it's like a performer's worst nightmare), they fixed it and she started again. unfortunately, though, the disaster repeated itself 3-4 times over her short set, cutting her song off halfway each time. just to cap things off, on the final song, the pickup on her guitar broke. she turned around and grabbed a guitar from War on Drugs and started to play again, but it turned out it was in a wildly different tuning.

anyway, to sum up, it was the most technical difficulties-riddled set i've ever seen in my life, and i've seen a fair share i think!

(sound for War on Drugs was excellent, btw)

For those into seeing 2 small rooms worth of photos of DC punk circa 1979 and hearing a discussion of it--this is going on Saturday December 10th at 6 at the Civilian Arts Project gallery near the Convention Center;

Please join the crew that put together this project: Lucian Perkins, Alec MacKaye, Lely Constantinople, and Jayme McLellan for a candid casual discussion on the origin of the work, the inspiration for the writing, the forthcoming book, and the traveling exhibition that is HARD ART DC 1979

Etete gave my friend and I a lot less veggies than when I was there with the ILX/ILE crew (was that over a year ago?)...I think I like Meazza out on Colombia Pike in Arlington more

Another Suburbanite, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:41 (twelve years ago) link

they also raised they're prices about a year or so ago

Crowell, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 17:26 (twelve years ago) link

I noticed that too. I got more food for less money at Meazza. I still have not tried Ethiopic on H St NE.

what would be a good place, do you think? something close to metro, i'm assuming, but feel free to suggest something, because i've only lived here a couple years and most of those were spent stranded out in Takoma Park.

i have thai x-ing reservations friday (on the early side) but i could come out afterwards - no particular preference in terms of where

lubbock babes, i have no idea who you are, but it would be cool to meet you! :)

Z S, Thursday, 8 December 2011 03:57 (twelve years ago) link

also, i'm assuming that since no one was for or against my proposal of 7pm, it was received with awed silence. "7pm...BRILLIANT"

Z S, Thursday, 8 December 2011 03:57 (twelve years ago) link

actually my thai x-ing reservation is at 7, but go ahead w/o me and i'll try to catch up after?

Other nominations welcome, but if we're looking for Metro accessibility, in Silver Spring there's Mandalay or Quarry House Tavern.

j.lu, Thursday, 8 December 2011 13:22 (twelve years ago) link

U street of course, but it gets almost too crowded later in the night at every location seemingly there on Friday nights

Another Suburbanite, Thursday, 8 December 2011 14:17 (twelve years ago) link

Arg, normally I'd be all about Mandalay/Quarry House, but that's right by where i used to live and there's a decent possibility of running into my ex there. sorry to bring that kind of bs into this but that would really ruin my night. U st does sound good...I think if we started a little earlier in the night (7 or 8 maybe), we might be able to get around the crowd issue.

Z S, Thursday, 8 December 2011 15:12 (twelve years ago) link

z_s, I posted on tru-ilx as "los blue jeans", not that I really established much of an internet persona or anything

the lubbock babes, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:44 (twelve years ago) link

oh, cool! and of course i've seen your posts! :)

well i'm not in any condition to make any sort of statement about anything right now, and especially not a suggestion for a decision, and certainly not a decision at all. but tomorrow, by high noon, it would be good if we had a location nailed down.
