I enjoyed it as a movie and thought the feeling of impending doom made the first half riveting. It dealt with a lot of cultural issues with surprising nuance (which may have little to do with Eastwood's direction). But more than anything else, this is a very significant film in terms of WWII remembrance, especially from the Japanese perspective.
