tehresa, Thursday, 26 June 2014 02:41 (nine years ago) link

My a/c works!

I'm cold.

tehresa, Thursday, 26 June 2014 20:22 (nine years ago) link

tsk<3

estela, Friday, 27 June 2014 05:45 (nine years ago) link

;)

tehresa, Saturday, 28 June 2014 02:48 (nine years ago) link

tbh i only really feel alive when i can see my breath

mookieproof, Saturday, 28 June 2014 03:37 (nine years ago) link

i put 2 shelves in my bathroom. i wanted to do a perfect job but it was imperfect. i made a hole in the wall trying to put drywall anchors into what turned out not to be drywall (i used studfinder but there was apparently some piece of wood going across!) then i concealed it with the shelf bracket. so that shelf has 4 anchors instead of 2 and two phantom screws pretending to help hold it up. i also suck at drilling two pieces of wood together. it's an outrage!

spite n ease (harbl), Sunday, 29 June 2014 18:42 (nine years ago) link

i mean 2 anchors instead of 4 duh

spite n ease (harbl), Sunday, 29 June 2014 18:42 (nine years ago) link

I feel for you, harbl! Don't get me started on the lengths we went to to bracket a bookshelf to the wall. Plaster is awful. And my floor is slanted! Hah.

tehresa, Sunday, 29 June 2014 23:25 (nine years ago) link

<3 phantom screws

lxy, Sunday, 29 June 2014 23:40 (nine years ago) link

I did woodwork for three years in that time I screwed three separate projects to the desk, sent a chisel and two chuck keys into the roof and was barred in two different schools from using sharpened tools

got a b in the junior cert on strength of my design and theory (the sycamore leaf came up and iirc I remembered it from an Enid blyton book or sthing) and since 1996 ive not done anything more taxing than assembly of units as and when required.

ms macs dad is a master carpenter.

can u imagine what yr master carpenter dad would make of you bringing home an ilxor, I believe I was myself the cause of the domestic outrage that time.

esperantzen (p much resigned to deems), Monday, 30 June 2014 00:49 (nine years ago) link

oh yeah, i used my iphone level. that thing needs to be recalibrated constantly. i need a real level. everything came out to 0º but the whole house is a little crooked so i swear it looks a tiny bit off. could be just me.

my dad is pretty close to being a master carpenter. he can build anything. i'm too embarrassed to tell him about my exploits. everything he builds has to be so perfect and best quality. he had so many criticisms of my house. it does need work though so that's ok.

spite n ease (harbl), Tuesday, 1 July 2014 00:46 (nine years ago) link

oh also i bought a dresser at the salvage store. i'll post a picture in a bit. it needs to be sanded, putty into some scratches, and painted. can't decide whether to replace the hardware or if it is replaceable.

spite n ease (harbl), Tuesday, 1 July 2014 00:47 (nine years ago) link

the anchors are 30 lbs each so there should be no collapsing of my shelves even with just the two ; )

spite n ease (harbl), Tuesday, 1 July 2014 00:49 (nine years ago) link

If your dad is so good at everything maybe he should do all the work for you so that you'll both be happy ;) I try to be handy but then I break things :(

tehresa, Tuesday, 1 July 2014 00:49 (nine years ago) link

Also I love envisioning a crooked house with everything perfectly straight but I picture a comical version of it.

and the rough places plain

mookieproof, Tuesday, 1 July 2014 05:56 (nine years ago) link

that looks like my house, yes

spite n ease (harbl), Tuesday, 1 July 2014 22:16 (nine years ago) link

I am so fascinated by that house. I want to know the story!!!

tehresa, Wednesday, 2 July 2014 00:49 (nine years ago) link

three weeks pass...

I have so many domestic things to do today but I have been procrastinating for an outrageously long time :(

tehresa, Sunday, 27 July 2014 20:35 (nine years ago) link

We have had an ant invasion. These wily bastards are tough and too smart to fall for the jarbl trap.

jaq, Monday, 28 July 2014 00:57 (nine years ago) link

ugh, ants. we ended up hiring an exterminator to deal with them. he comes quarterly. so glad.

lxy, Monday, 28 July 2014 03:13 (nine years ago) link

it's a georgetown thing. jergins said he saw them on the yard waste bin yesterday, and the front steps. none inside though, knock on wood.

lxy, Monday, 28 July 2014 03:15 (nine years ago) link

Yikes! Hate them. My old office (which wasn't even really that old a building) has ant issues. I'd occasionally find one crawling across my monitor.

tehresa, Monday, 28 July 2014 12:09 (nine years ago) link

I did 5 loads of laundry (ugh!) but none of my other chores...

tehresa, Monday, 28 July 2014 12:10 (nine years ago) link

two months pass...

this is anticipatory but we forgot to put our trash bin out for collection this morning and in the past couple of days the temperature and humidity levels have shot past spring into early summer figures so by next week things out there will be gruesome.

estela, Wednesday, 8 October 2014 09:07 (nine years ago) link

I took today off for much-needed study and herself has spotted an ideal opportunity to decide to be sick and is issuing frequent and gleeful demands from the bedroom (entertainment contents: one TV, one kindle, one iPad, today's newspaper) via the last of the listed entertainment items rolled into a loudspeaker, causing much outrage among the domestic staff.

esperantzen (p much resigned to deems), Wednesday, 8 October 2014 10:17 (nine years ago) link

if i were there i would get her a bell or a gong so she could up the ante.

estela, Wednesday, 8 October 2014 13:57 (nine years ago) link

see why I kept ye apart?

esperantzen (p much resigned to deems), Wednesday, 8 October 2014 17:43 (nine years ago) link

oh, estie, did you want to hear the one about how i went to georgia for two weeks in the summer and left a small amount of trash in the bottom of my trashcan (small, but still against my better judgment) and came back to an outrageous amount of flies who had suicided themselves against the front window. i was almost too lazy to run outside this morning when i heard the garbage truck at 6:30 but i remembered those flies.

spite n ease (harbl), Thursday, 9 October 2014 01:10 (nine years ago) link

btw my cat just killed a fly. she works so hard at it.

spite n ease (harbl), Thursday, 9 October 2014 01:10 (nine years ago) link

i love your clever little cat.

were the suicide flies on the inside windowsill or were they outside trying to barge their way in?

it is getting hotter here by the day:(

estela, Saturday, 11 October 2014 00:20 (nine years ago) link

now that we're moving into fall I feel i should perhaps finish my spring cleaning 😳

tehresa, Saturday, 11 October 2014 01:57 (nine years ago) link

i'd no idea that 'estie' was acceptable usage but am v. fond of it

mookieproof, Saturday, 11 October 2014 04:05 (nine years ago) link

too close to estie buttz for me clive

esperantzen (p much resigned to deems), Saturday, 11 October 2014 10:06 (nine years ago) link

they were on the inside windowsill. i guess estie was esteban buttez but i like it too.

spite n ease (harbl), Saturday, 11 October 2014 18:28 (nine years ago) link

tbh at usage of "estie" I started questioning my understanding of deems' identity.

tehresa, Saturday, 11 October 2014 21:30 (nine years ago) link

this is what happens when we're not careful about things

esperantzen (p much resigned to deems), Sunday, 12 October 2014 01:24 (nine years ago) link

i liked being called estie.

estela, Sunday, 12 October 2014 09:32 (nine years ago) link

oh I see harbl was calling estela estie! Assumed deems bc it was previous post. So confuse.

tehresa, Sunday, 12 October 2014 17:41 (nine years ago) link

two weeks pass...

how's this one

i wanted to bring tea to work so i went back inside to get it this morning and saw also honey was on the counter so i got that too. honey was not totally closed. honey dumped itself into my change thing. a pool of honey in my car. fortunately not much on carpet. this is like the 5th condiment that has spilled in my car and by far the worst. i need to just blow my car up and be done with it.

spite n ease (harbl), Friday, 31 October 2014 00:44 (nine years ago) link

a little bit got into iphone headphone jack and the silent switch thing!!!!!!!!

spite n ease (harbl), Friday, 31 October 2014 00:46 (nine years ago) link

sticky residue outrages are the most aggravating kind.

my car was a complete disgrace and i had to drive someone in it for work, it was embarrassing, but luckily they turned out to be not car proud either. i cleaned it after that though because having surveyed it through a stranger's eyes i knew it was beyond the pale.

estela, Friday, 31 October 2014 09:14 (nine years ago) link

last month I had to drive a professor in my car unexpectedly and it was in dire need of a wash but also full of dog hair so I played it off by asking if she was allergic. She wasn't, and told me she had two dogs so i turned the conversation to asking about her dogs to make her think my car was ok because hey, we both like dogs!

tehresa, Saturday, 1 November 2014 01:06 (nine years ago) link

my car is always gross. i hate it.

spite n ease (harbl), Saturday, 1 November 2014 02:00 (nine years ago) link

my car is full of coffee spills and ashes. i've never had it washed, nor changed the oil. i am an irresponsible car owner and i hate driving people.

lxy, Saturday, 1 November 2014 12:13 (nine years ago) link

work people, that is. i would drive you people all the livelong day.
