John, you want my amassing Severd Heads collection.

also, I'm obtaining some music by a band of that name.

Random HSTGS-related event: author Maryjanice Davidson will be on Showcase, MN tomorrow morning at around 10:10 am on KARE11 (NBC).

There's also a book release party for Sleeping with the Fishes at the Mall of America Barnes and Noble at 7 pm Tuesday night; I'm going, despite realizing once again this morning that MOA is the most exhausting place on earth.

HATING WILL SMITH IS LIKE HATING LIFE WHERE "LIFE" = "TALENTED BLACK PEOPLE WHO TURNED DOWN MIT FOR FAME AND FORTUNE" AND/OR "PUPPIES"

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Monday, 27 November 2006 14:57 (seventeen years ago) link

will smith could've went to mit?

i'm exhausted this morning. being back at work sux0r!

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 27 November 2006 15:06 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, he got a big-ass scholarship from them and basically had to decide whether he was going to be an engineer or an emcee. He decided to defer a year and see if he could do the emcee thing and, well, apparently he could.

John, have you seen "Six Degrees of Seperation" or "Ali"?

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Monday, 27 November 2006 15:46 (seventeen years ago) link

I loved Will back when he was all jazzy jeff and the fresh prince but he's become kind of lame.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 27 November 2006 15:47 (seventeen years ago) link

That happens to pretty much everyone once they grow up!

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Monday, 27 November 2006 15:52 (seventeen years ago) link

:(

aren't he and jada scientologists?

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 27 November 2006 15:53 (seventeen years ago) link

I finished watching Hitch last night and I liked it. Not hugely memorable, but cute. I neither love nor hate Will Smith. And the white guy who "couldn't dance" danced a hell of a lot better than the white guys I know who can't dance.

Scientologists are creepy, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy what talents they have. (That being said, I do like to give my right wing guy friend a hard time for his crush on Greta van Susternen or whatever her name is.)

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 16:23 (seventeen years ago) link

Once I know someone's a scientologist, I truly can never look at them the same again.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 27 November 2006 16:25 (seventeen years ago) link

Sam, did you see those photos of Katie Holmes on her wedding day, taken through a window? I thought she looked really wistful and sad, which I attributed to the fact that she was marrying not only a Scientologist, but the craziest one.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 16:27 (seventeen years ago) link

maybe it was inbetween drug dosings for her and she was coming to. .

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 27 November 2006 16:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Now that you mention it, that makes perfect sense.

"Now Katie, hand me the baby, here's your pill... now let's just put this wedding dress on..."

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 16:31 (seventeen years ago) link

PERFECT.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 17:39 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't care if Will Smith is a Scientologist or not; I appreciate that he is a successsful black man in the entertainment industry who came out of hip-hop, did his own thing, and managed to become wildly successful without pretending to be a gang member and while retaining some sense of dignity (aside from "The Legend of Bagger Vance", fuck him for that nonsense) and not acting like a damned fool (YES I AM LOOKING AT YOU, FLAVOR FLAV).

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Monday, 27 November 2006 19:59 (seventeen years ago) link

aw dan, hating on flava.

(I understand what you're saying though.)

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:01 (seventeen years ago) link

I understand, Dan. I'm just still scarred from "Armageddon" and "Men In Black 2".

Also, yeah, I mostly find Scientologists funny. Of course, my views on religion are...odd.

I prefer to think of Flav as a strange dadaist experiment gone awry.

Also, my feelings on Hitch would be the same if it starred ANYONE, so it isn't really an attack on Will.

John Justen wants to hit you in the head with a pipewrench. (John Justen), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:04 (seventeen years ago) link

If all of scientology views psychiatry the way tom cruise does then I find them EVIL!

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Now, if you believed that you could regress your memory to the point of conception, you'd hate psychiatrists too.

Of course, the reason for your hatred would be that you're a FUCKING NUTJOB who believes absurd, anti-scientific claptrap.

John Justen wants to hit you in the head with a pipewrench. (John Justen), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:11 (seventeen years ago) link

maybe if I believed we all orignated from volcano-ailens, yes I would hate modern medicine.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:12 (seventeen years ago) link

Is Will Smith in Armageddon? (With Bruce Willis? - or am I thinking of the wrong movie?)

I think the Scientologists are idiotically entertaining. But that's because I don't take them seriously. (And after Tom Cruise's ass-hat-itude about post-mortem depression, it's easy to see why...)

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:13 (seventeen years ago) link

I am reasonably certain that Will Smith is neither Michael Clarke Duncan nor Keith David and therefore wasn't in "Armageddon".

"Independence Day" will get an eternal free pass from me for A) having Vivica A. Fox gyrate around a stripper pole in her first scene; and B) blowing up Harry Connick Jr.

Also, where are you getting your "Will is a Scientologist" info? This is the closest I can come up with:

Are you religious—and have you ever been approached by the Church of Scientology?
donicello, Vancouver, BC

I’ve probably read 95% of the words in the Bible. Probably 60% of the Torah. 70% of the Koran. And the thing that is so amazing to me is how everybody, in essence, believes the same thing. I just can’t understand how we get from such similar beliefs to murdering one another. My beliefs are that individuals have to create relationships with God. You can’t listen to what the preacher says—you have to read the Bible yourself and make your interpretation. I’m good friends with Tom Cruise and I just think a lot of the ideas in Scientology are brilliant and revolutionary and non-religious.

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Whoops. Not "Armageddon." "Independence Day".

Somehow I mixed up my AMERICA NUMBER ONE FUCK YOU SPACE epics.

John Justen wants to hit you in the head with a pipewrench. (John Justen), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:15 (seventeen years ago) link

This is all reminding me that I never saw Battlefield Earth. It's sad to me that MST3K didn't have a shot at that. Maybe the Rifftrax people will do that... hope hope...

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:15 (seventeen years ago) link

Independence Day is just bad*. But I do like Dan's reasons for giving it a pass. Dan, U R funny.

*One of the few things I agree with my sister-in-law's husband on: tearing that movie apart.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:18 (seventeen years ago) link

I will always remember Armageddon as the movie where Liv Tyler gets molested by Ben Affleck while Aerosmith supplies the soundtrack.

WAY TO GO, DAD!

John Justen wants to hit you in the head with a pipewrench. (John Justen), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Strictly speaking, "Independence Day" was an APPLE NUMBER ONE FUCK YOU SPACE (PS WOMEN THINK JEFF GOLDBLUM IS HOT ERGO WOMEN BE CRAZY) epic.

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:20 (seventeen years ago) link

post-mortem depression

Er, I mean post-PARTUM depression... I think pretty much everyone agrees about post-mortem depression.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:21 (seventeen years ago) link

(It was also a STRIPPER GOTS MOXIE!!! epic)

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Im good friends with Tom Cruise and I just think a lot of the ideas in Scientology are brilliant and revolutionary and non-religious.

Just from that, that's why I asked, I wasn't sure. I just have heard Jada standing up for Tomkat alot.

I like Independance Day. I always cry.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:22 (seventeen years ago) link

I stand up for my batshit crazy friends all the time, that doesn't also make me batshit crazy! (There are a myriad of other reasons why I am batshit crazy.)

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:23 (seventeen years ago) link

I have only seen bits of the scene John describes above. Hilarious! (Well, ate least when MST3K supplies commentary.)

Jeff Goldblum is hot in that weird "he's a loose cannon" kind of way.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:24 (seventeen years ago) link

Also in that weird "he looks like a sheepdog fucked a rhesus monkey" way?

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:24 (seventeen years ago) link

I was asking Dan! I don't know!

But still I have to question anyone who's close friend with Tom Cruise (I really hate the guy in case you can't tell.)

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:25 (seventeen years ago) link

Dan, you slay me. I'm not saying he's handsome. Just that some women like crazy men.

Here's the link to the MST3K/Armageddon clip.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, Tom Cruise a total douche; you won't get any argument from me there. I just really admire Will Smith for having the guts to follow his artistic talent rather than his academic talent.

Sara, by the logic you are presenting, women should REALLY be throwing their panties at HOWIE MANDEL. I really hope that is not the case.

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Howie Mandel... no. Too far in the direction of "completely dorky." Also, I'm sorry to be the one to have to tell you this, but there is no logic involved in the subject of which you speak.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:30 (seventeen years ago) link

I kind of think he's cute too.

but not howie mandel. no way.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:34 (seventeen years ago) link

LOL. Still... yeah, it's the loose cannon thing. He's funny and he's crazy. I'm sorry, some of us like that.

See also: my friend who loves teh super-old guys (the youngest star I remember her having a crush on was Martin Sheen. We had a Martin Sheen film festival once!). Also, my insane crush on the guy who plays Hurley on LOST (Jorge Garcia). Okay, I won't lie and say I don't think Naveen Andrews is hotter, but... still, I'm half in love with Hurley!

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:35 (seventeen years ago) link

lost is pretty yummy. . .sayeed, sawyer, ana-lucia. hurley, hmm.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:36 (seventeen years ago) link

You are so right. Every one of the actors is eye candy. Ugh, except the guy who plays Jack. I hate his hair and his character.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:36 (seventeen years ago) link

I have to say, though, that I think the woman who plays Sun is more attractive than Ana-Lucia. (Also, the guy who plays Sun's husband = super hot.)

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Sun = PHWOAR

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:39 (seventeen years ago) link

ana-lucia became pretty one-diminsonal there near the end. but when she was first introduced she was definitely right up my alley.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Seriously, when the least attractive woman on your show is CLAIRE, you've got a show full of massively attractive women.

(Yeah, I said Rose is more attractive than Claire.)

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:41 (seventeen years ago) link

Claire is cute, but boring (and blonde, and we all know I don't love the blondes).

Also, every time I see her, I hear "Maybe the dingoes stole your bahy-bee" in my head...

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:45 (seventeen years ago) link

I really missed a golden opportunity to coin the phrase "C on Tylers" up there.
