one month passes...

what a day, jfc

not work or home troubles, but stupid volunteer organization drama

L went to see the grandbaby

I think I'll fire up some Rudimentary Peni or similar screaming insanity

heat up some leftover chicken with garden herbs

drink

play Maelstrom

Toasting u

jaq, Saturday, 6 June 2015 03:30 (eight years ago) link

the drama climate has improved significantly thanks to savvy co-volunteers posting smart thoughtful emails

went to the local pub early to avoid terrible cover-rock Weekend Warrior band, but they started at 8 :(

left after 1 beer (Hop Valley Proxima)

I have only listened to one side of a Robert Wyatt LP, a far cry from Rudi Peni

pouring Jim Beam, let's find a noisy record to rip onto the rest of this CDRW

I saw these guys play once in the 90's to an audience of four, two of which were the other acts. it was a matinee show, god knows why. they abused a whole table full of broken toys, great stuff. I bought my copy of this LP from them at that show. This is probably the first time I've listened to it in at least ten years. It sings, aches and warbles with a bruised mechanical beauty.

one of my very favorite bands. the Mute label totally fucked up the CD reissues of these albums, every single one has brickwalled compression that exceeds any reasonable parameter. this is the last vinyl of theirs that I need to rip, their 1986 swan song. I love dissolution/breakup albums - Shoot Out The Lights, Recurring, Loaded, Ach Dieser Bart, etc. 2nd vocalist Guggi left before this was recorded, but there are live bootlegs that have the multi-vocal delivery so essential to this group. still a great album.

drink #2: Jim Beam, angostura bitters, ginger ale

drink #3: Jim Beam, Cynar, ginger ale

I'm liking this #3 combo

no surprise that I suck at Maelstrom when drunk

this is a major commitment that will require most of the weekend, bear with me

I will probably only make it through the first side tonight

these are the days my friend

it could be frank it could be very fresh and clean

I wish we lived closer b/c it would be the best to sit somewhere on a long summer evening with all the sandboxers drinking and talking and listening until eventually we're all just smiling happily.

we could get a parrot and if it started swearing volubly in an nz accent ruby and i could blame each other which all sounds well and good but what if it repeated our denials and recriminations in a loud emotionless shriek that drowned out vin scully when f. was listening to mlb.com, that would be a big bag of trouble.

one year passes...

john d sang half this song the other night when we saw him play in the barn in iowa

four years pass...

my dad, a chemist, used to order 'martinis' that were straight gin (with a twist!) and then apply a couple droplets of vermouth from a vial in his pocket

i thought that was pretty cool until i discovered that gin is fucking disgusting

can't really understand the human toll of the UK's industrial revolution until you account for the fact that all the sluggards and slatterns were pounding gin to escape it

at least grappa is sort of epic
