I wanted to see John, the superprivileged super-snooty guy in that group of three, but he refused to show. He probably realized how badly he was coming across compared to the realer real lives of the others. I hope he shows up in 35-42-49.

He does, but [VAGUE SPOILER] he's kind of an opportunist about it.

xpost - I haven't seen Little Miss Sunshine but a couple people told me I should & said I'd really like it & this made me wary and somewhat paranoid wondering what they thought of me (ie 'bitch is crazy!!')

The Sacrifice doesn't add up (I had some complicated theory about why the guy had to act anyway even if not necessary.. eh.. probably overthinking) but has a few nice set pieces.. the documentary about the making-of is neat b/c the burning house at the end didn't work on the first take and they only had one more chance to get it right. Stalker is far better but damn, does it go on and on and on..

i'm waiting on dvds from greencine: 'cemetery man', 'the big combo', and--due to an error on my part--the bonus disc of 'infernal affairs 2'

He does, but [VAGUE SPOILER] he's kind of an opportunist about it.

That makes sense, he'll be approaching the right age to start running for public office.

The Beastmaster, a childhood favorite. Held up better than I expected. Rip Torn in a prosthetic nose and skull-and-crossboned pigtails helped.

Alfred Soto (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 2 January 2007 19:07 (seventeen years ago) link

The Man Who Fell to Earth (also w/ Rip Torn! as Bowie's driver)

was expecting an arty b-flick but not so much sexxxploitation type stuff. the gun / sex scene was total Lynch, looked straight outta Wild At Heart. v. weird movie.

dmr (dmr), Tuesday, 2 January 2007 20:13 (seventeen years ago) link

oh whoops rip torn is the scientist. the driver looked familiar tho.

Warner has set The Departed for release on 2/13 in single-disc and 2-disc special edition DVD versions (SRP $28.98 and $34.99 respectively). There's no word yet on extras. We expect HD-DVD and Blu-ray Disc versions to be announced as well.

Let's compare Marty's paychecks on Taxi Driver and The Departed, shall we? (The guy is not gonna be trapped into talking about the layers of Matt Damon's acting on a commentary track, and what a loss.)

tonight, Pan's Labyrinth ... and I have Scorsese's My Voyage in Italy waiting at home!

Make damned sure you've seen every last movie he covers, as it's spolier city.

I've seen a lot of em. Aside from twist-centered plots, I'm not a big believer in the true spoilage of spoilers.

Just Watched:
Silent Hill (well, the first 45 minutes) - KIND OF REALLY BORING. Not enough fucked up monsters. Dyke cop in leather is hawt tho. Also apparently someone gets skinned at the end so I am going to have to finish this at some point.

Soon-to-arrive Netflix:
Curb Your Enthusiasm season 1 disc 1
Eyes Without a Face (YOU GUYS I AM SO EXCITED 4 THIS 1)

Watching tonight probably:
Gozu

Eyes Without a Face

This movie is a lot stranger and tamer than I expected ... until it was extremly not tame at all.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 20:43 (seventeen years ago) link

christ i still need to see that thing with the crazy actor and the bears that herzog edited....must get new netflix acct

not really necessary, the end is the worst part (in a series of pretty bad parts)

dmr (dmr), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 21:01 (seventeen years ago) link

really??? but the amount of violence sounded positively delightful.

Jessie the Monster (scarymonster), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 21:04 (seventeen years ago) link

the gun / sex scene was total Lynch, looked straight outta Wild At Heart. v. weird movie.

yeah i watched that w/my parents when i was about 15. (we rented it on videodisc!) sex stuff majorly awkward. after the gun scene my mom was like, "um, you know that's not normal sex..." and i was all "DUH, mom!" (don't know what she was worried about, we didn't even own any guns.)

tipsy mothra (tipsy mothra), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 22:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Just watch Silent Hill on fast-forward, stop whenever something happens that looks interesting. You don't need the dialogue.

milo (milo), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 22:16 (seventeen years ago) link

The only blurb on the back of the Silent Hill DVD? I'm friends with that guy.
