Your imaginary pet (Harry's Thread)

it's a hopeful sight though!

dogs think they are master of all they survey so even if they're friends they get annoyed with each other for walking past each other's house. harry is street friends with these other dogs near us but if he's out walking and they're not he will deliberately loiter outside their house until they angrily notice him and then he swiftly scarpers with a pleased look on his face, it's quite rotten.

i never had a pet when i was a kid because my mom is allergic to everything except hoarding, but i always loved my aunt and uncles' kitties

i acquired a pseudo-family from my best friend when i was in college. they were (and are) the very best and as a pseudo-child i was immune to anything but <3

they had two cats. sheba was a beautiful sleek black cat who tolerated no one but my friend's mom. and harry was this big sloppy orange cat who, when i was there, somehow knew when i was unhappy and would climb into bed with me. that was a long time ago and he died after a good long life. but man, harrys are the best

i wonder if harry the dog and harry the cat would have got along, harry the dog is very interested in cats but i can never tell if it's a wholly benign interest.

he is so bored by now that if i say woof to him in a normal human voice, making zero attempt at dog mimicry, he barks enthusiastically as if i'm his slightly dim friend charlie.

(charlie is a bichon frise, not a simple but goodhearted boy.)

aw, there will be no wrestling featuring me and any of his feeble little limbs, we all want this convalescence to be over with as fast as possible.

i keep imagining our harry sitting in an armed wooden chair, smoking and drinking, leaning on his wee crooked elbow. it's killing me.

maybe he's been playing poker. maybe he has poker elbow.

his little elbow is not crooked, that's his tiny knee, but he does have a callus on his elbow from leaning on it which is slightly rotten.

it's his birthday here today, he is 10. i'm going to bake him a meatball, i did that last year and it was a huge hit.

harry is my birthday twin! it's an extra-special day of extreme happiness!

i meant crooked like crookt, not like crook-ed. crooked, like bent. bent for leaning, and smoking, and drinking.

harry crooked his callused elbow and leaned heavily on the arm of the chair. thus posed with his cigarette and cocktail, he eyed the birthday meatball greedily.

oh of course, crooked! lol

Harry's my other side of the planet upside down and over the dateline birthday twin! what a sweet crooked little rotter - tell him i'm indeed locked in a pen, but it's full of grownups acting like babies.

he said, why is everything so unfair these days.

perhaps estela will read passages from sweet thursday aloud to harry while he savors his birthday meatball

i definitely will, his two favourite activities are listening to literature and eating punctiliously.

his greatest sorrow is that he can't turn the pages of books by himself because of his paws layout.

harry gutsed down his meatball and now he's being a terror, trying to do dangerous acrobatic leaps off the couch which are completely against the recovery rules. f.'s got an iron grip on him. also he got a surprise parcel from sydney containing a plush squeaky toy and some carob drops, both of which he likes, so apart from being jailed and having a pitiful limp it's been a pretty good birthday.

aw thank you. he is fast asleep now, his eyes are squeezed shut and his elbows are crooked and he's resting his chin on his favourite toy piglet (who is so grimy from ten years of being harry's best friend that he looks like a chimney sweep).

when i was a wee bairn my mom made me a stuffed pooh and a piglet and then even a kanga and a roo (who fit in kanga's pouch of course). they are still in a chest in my dad's house; i should probably have him send them to me as i could use the company tbh

aw, i think you should get them back.

i always loved piglet best out of those characters and then harry did too. it was so funny and <3 how he attached to piglet. every other soft toy he was given as a puppy got swiftly disembowelled, and on the second day of having piglet he tore the stuffing out of one of his legs but then he paused and had a little think and gave him a reprieve. he doesn't like anyone to touch piglet and he carries him around the house and kisses him and uses him as a pillow. sometimes when harry's out i will sneakily wash piglet but that still never gets the grime off his face, he's been licked too often. they are a terrible pair.

he is cheerfuller and nimbler by the day, and has only 17 days left to go<3

oh!!! that's not too much at all! soldier on, dear harry!

i wasn't going to admit this but right about when you were urging him to soldier on he was snacking on poached chicken breast.

harry eats better than i do : /

food is the only entertainment when you're locked in a pen.

how now?

he has ten more days in the pen and then a few weeks of us blocking the stairs and stopping him from jumping up onto the bed and trying to stop him from skidding on the wood floor and then things will be back to normal. he did do a stealth leap off the couch last night but it's probaby okay. he's pretty boisterous by now, laughing a lot and squeaking things and trying to bolt when we take him outside.

i think it's funny for animals to get directions from their doctors, they have no idea why they are restricted from doing stuff or that it's for their own good! it must be so confusing.

yes i'm sure harry thinks we have gone mental and he's hoping we'll come right again soon which we will next friday.

poor harry, i thought it was this friday, that is, today.

xp i use a flickr account i inherited as a handmedown when jergins switched to photobucket. in my opinion flickr is not extremy intuitive but i haven't used other ones so can't say what's easiest.

you could send me a pic and i could put it up for you, or send you the image link and you could post it. that'd be easy.

he is very strong already, much faster than with the other knee. this will soon be over and he'll be a galloping fool again.
and i will hopefully then have more interesting things to talk about. i have remorse about being such a cabin feverish bore. you all have been very kind and patient.

today we are going to see doctor mark and he is hopefully going to say no more baby pen for you, little mister.
