Not saying you're like this, but I've been dealing with a co-worker who I've had to resort exclusively e-mailing with because her "word of mouth" is a lot harder to back-up when she fucks up.
The other day, I e-mailed her about some work that wasn't getting done. Fifteen seconds after I hit send, she's paging me over the intercom. So when she tells me to substitute A for B and it comes back to bite the company on the ass, I'll have no record of her ever telling me to do the switch. Fuck that.
Again, not saying that's why your boss is e-mailing you like that, but maybe it's just for accountability purposes.

Yeah, I don't think it's because I'm fucking up or anything, as I think my boss likes me, and is happy with what I'm doing.
I was just talking to her, and I'm under the impression it's just procedural dealings. Well, fingers crossed, anyway.
