"dick in a box" might be he's best video ever, you know (i'm almost serious since I haven't watched this one yet, I didn't like "sexyback", "senorita", "i just wanna love u", "cry me a river"... "rock ur body" and "my love" are good, though).

Someone tell this man-boy to wait a few more years before attempting shit like this.

Even though I haven't seen it, I'm sure it lacks morphing dolphins.

He went with manatees instead.

I suppose this is as good a place to link this as any. "If I wrote you a symphony", indeed.

Jesus, couldn't she have at least found an in-tune piano?

Sam Bayer is a dick in a box. He'll never top "Coma White."

I wonder if MTV will actually play a 9:20 video on a regular basis...

They are playing it a lot.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 04:06 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, it's crazy, sometimes they play it twice back to back !
haven't decided what I think about it yet but I think I like the over the topness of it all... it's big hollywood, baroque ! and I don't even like the song that much (except the final which is great and to make another comparison with GnR, it reminds me the final of "november rain" !)

AleXTC (AleXTC), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 11:57 (seventeen years ago) link

sam bayer has a lustrous man-mullet, its really quite something

^@^ (map), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 14:11 (seventeen years ago) link

nice cars, too. and I quite like JT's evil face at the end, during the final, when he stares at the camera with a "you're gonna bitch" look on his face !

AleXTC (AleXTC), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 14:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Given JT's penchant for social climbing I'm surprised he worked with a hack like Nick Cassavetes and not, say, Oliver Assayas.

SJ's acting is always so nonexistant that I find it hard to even tell if she's better in this than usual or not.

Hooray, it's cool to hate the twerpy little fuck again.

As Timberlake surveys the scene and cops a feel of Scarlett's corpse, the song's titular refrain adopts a malicious chuckle--and starts to conspicuously sound, in its passive-aggressive way, like an O.J.-ish warning to JT's on-again/off-again paramour Cameron Diaz. (Again we see that no black icon is sacred to Timberlake.) ...I've really had enough of this dick in a box.

I've really had enough of this dick in a box

see what he did there folks

the incongruity of au courant Timberlake--whose co-opting of black culture is so comprehensive that he's annexed LL Cool J's lip-licking tic--

curmudgeon (DC Steve), Friday, 16 February 2007 22:26 (seventeen years ago) link

ah yes, the famous black lip lick

^@^ (map), Friday, 16 February 2007 22:29 (seventeen years ago) link

"white people say 'au courant' and black people can't afford lip balm -- this is the natural order"

^@^ (map), Friday, 16 February 2007 22:30 (seventeen years ago) link

this 9-minute X-ray of Timberlake's petty little head single-handedly justifies every knee-jerk bit of vitriol I've wanted to spew at him. Here's the premise: claiming to have already met her no-talent assclown quota for the evening (she motions to her "date," Shawn Hatosy), a blonde, noirishly-attired Scarlett Johansson--on whom one-time fan Glenn Kenny recently closed "the iron door" for this betrayal of her gender--spurns Timberlake's advances; proving he is the true inheritor of Vanilla Ice's mantle, Timberlake basically tries the drop-the-zero-and-get-with-the-hero approach, which, though the chronology is difficult to parse, apparently works, as just a few shots later he's making out with her. Scarlett subsequently does what any sensible woman would do after coming in direct contact with Timberlake and submerges herself in the nearest body of water, an act of Karen Silkwood self-preservation that JT immediately annuls by jumping in the pool after her.

In the Everytime vid, Britney drowns herself in a bathtub and is pulled out by a skeezy JT-like Stephen Dorff. COINCIDENCE?
