I can't think of food places to recommend for vegetarian eating, sorry. I love the Buford Hwy Market and the Dekalb Farmers Market, but for grocery shopping, not dining. I've been to The Porter in Little 5 Points a couple of times, good beer selection, good frites.

I spent four days there in April and it was pretty fun - went to one of the Flips with a vegetarian friend and she seemed to dig it. Spent a very pleasant afternoon at the aforementioned Porter having beers and frites and charcuterie. Went out to Decatur for an afternoon and hit another crazy beer bar there that was kind of mind blowing. Ate breakfast at the Highland Cafe, alone, twice, at the Old 4th Ward location.

I think I know the beer bar in Decatur you're talking about and it was a good spot. Had to google to recall its name -- The Brick Store Pub.

Highland Cafe or Highland Bakery? Because the Highland Bakery (which I can just about see from my apartment) is SO FUCKING DELICIOUS.

God is great. God is good. And people are crazy. Amen. (Johnny Fever), Friday, 30 December 2011 19:07 (twelve years ago) link

It's on the pricey side, but back when i lived there over ten years ago, Cafe Sunflower was great: http://www.cafesunflower.com/index.shtml

It was definitely the Brick Store. Lots of good beers on tap, casks of stuff upstairs, and the owner ended up giving us a tour of the aging room upstairs. This was my first time really being anywhere in the South and it was funny how the "people are friendly" stereotype seemed to be pretty true.

And I think it was the Highland Bakery - the one on Highland near Sampson, according to maps? I went there and liked it enough to go back the next day, place was pretty great.

Mostly I spent my time driving around the city with OutKast lyrics running through my head and listening the rap station playing "6 Foot 7" every other song with commercials for amateur night at the strip club in between.
