Re: Carroll
It's just not going to happen, though, is it?
― M. White, Thursday, 29 December 2011 21:55 (twelve years ago) link
I'm not sure about Carroll atm, probably nobody else will agree but I reckon he's been showing better recently - but he's just the most frustrating player to watch, he's forever doing *the wrong thing*. Nevertheless he's started picking up chances, though not exactly playing like a beast. If that piece is right, though, he'll just be knackered. Got to say it seems as plausible as anything, certainly my reaction times etc are shot if I'm tired, and top-level players must rely on those margins more than anything.

He played with immense heart for Newcastle but I've never seen him play w/much brains

i posted it for its terrible syntax not for the content
carroll is just not a fitba player, but he will almost certainly score 3 or 4 while suarez is rested

Apparently Liverpool are open to letting him go. Apparently. According to this guy who knows stuff. I'd be amazed if they do let him go any time soon though.
― Chris, Thursday, 29 December 2011 23:08 (twelve years ago) link
rumours of trade or loan or sthing with bent
mcleish would literally kill for a player as bad, as wite and as rangy as wor andy
― Hongro4AS (nakhchivan), Thursday, 29 December 2011 23:10 (twelve years ago) link
A trusted source Chris? I remember you had one a while back, can't remember what the rumour was or if it paid off though.
They can't let him go though - it'd be too embarrassing. Where would he go but Newcastle anyway?
― Ismael Klata, Thursday, 29 December 2011 23:16 (twelve years ago) link
Jeez, what wouldn't O'Neill give for him at Sunderland though?!
Different guy, but he seems pretty sound. He's on Twitter btw, just in case people think little me knows 'people'! But yeah, even if the club were willing to listen to offers, I can't see it happening. That would be pretty embarrassing.
― Chris, Thursday, 29 December 2011 23:26 (twelve years ago) link
the gap btwn acceptable loss for lfc and what any club would pay is too great
anyway, i also think he'll have a mini-run before the end of the year

St. Mirren have the distinction of being the only club ever to sack Ferguson. He claimed wrongful dismissal against the club at an industrial tribunal but lost and was given no leave to appeal. According to a Billy Adams Sunday Herald article on 30 May 1999, the official version is that Ferguson was sacked for various breaches of contract including unauthorised payments to players.[24] He was counter-accused of intimidating behaviour towards his office secretary because he wanted players to get some expenses tax free. He didn't speak to her for six weeks, confiscated her keys and communicated only through a 17-year-old assistant. The tribunal concluded that Ferguson was "particularly petty" and "immature".[26] It was claimed during the tribunal by St. Mirren chairman, Willie Todd, that Ferguson had "no managerial ability".

I don't fancy this one much. Newcastle haven't fallen apart at the back, are patient and cagey when necessary, and offer enough up front - and Suarez is out - to suggest an 0-1 is entirely possible. I hope Bellamy is (a) playing and (b) given licence, else this might be grim.

a hoy hoy, are you still working through the bible? i just came across this amazing passage that seems in the spirit of your reading:
2 Kings 2:23-24King James Version (KJV) 23And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. 24And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.
24And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

I had a brief vision of a universe where the foreign invasion, EPL boom, etc. never happened. In that world, this sort of game decides titles.

He's done nothing since I wrote that of course xp. But things were sticking to him early on and he was linking things up well.

Newcastle are having the most ridiculous amount of possession without threatening. LFC are bound to nick this.
