For purposes of ILXor head-count, though, I have to be ranked with la manzana mas grandes.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 22:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Well, yeah, but the question was how many are IN Chicago. I *heart* Jordan and Laurel (xp and Ama and I hear that nabisco is OTM and hstencil and I hated each other once but are BFFs now even though he probably doesn't remember BUT I DO) but they are not in Chicago and cannot be counted for the purposes of the question. Technically then neither can that guy moving here from Chapel Hill.

does stormy davis still live in chicago?

I'm sure he does, as long it's south of Roosevelt.

There's also Derek Erdman, jonviachicago, Josh in Chicago, econjohn, jennpb, and K3rry K3ane.

Other former Chicagoans: Phil-Two and Grady.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 22:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Okay this is fascinating but I have a long law review article to read. Not as long as originally feared, however; more than half of it is footnotes.

Handgun O. Mendocino (pullapartgirl), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 22:59 (seventeen years ago) link

But wait you have to hear my story it's about dogs:

I just yelled at this dude in the park because he let his scary dog come running up to Carl and me and then when his dog pounced on me and almost knocked me over and I yelped he didn't even SAY anything. THen you know what he said? From like 100 feet away? When I started stomping through the snow out of the park?

"Don't you want to stay and play?"

I yelled, "NO." And Carl and I took off. I wanted to stay and play, but not with his scary dog.

Armando Grouse (Armando ), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 23:00 (seventeen years ago) link

Or him. That guy can suck on a walnut.

Armando Grouse (Armando ), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 23:00 (seventeen years ago) link

Amanda!!! Even if that big dog was harmless, which YOU had no way of knowing, you must have been TERRIFIED!

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 23:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Or an apricot.

JordanC (JordanC), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 23:01 (seventeen years ago) link

No, apricots are too good for him, but gross, hurty walnuts are JUST RIGHT, sez Goldilocks.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 23:02 (seventeen years ago) link

I was not happy.
And Carl knew that I was scared and he started growling, and then I looked at the guy and was like HELP and he was just plop plop plop walking through the snow like there was nothing going on. NOT COOL PARK ETIQUETTE.

Armando Grouse (Armando ), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 23:02 (seventeen years ago) link

i don't get the walnut hate

While trying to think of Chicagoans, I remembered something -- wasn't one of us throwing a party once and this girl started a thread and was like "we can have the party at my place," even though nobody knew her? When was that?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 23:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Jaymc, if YOU don't remember, ain't NOBODY remember.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 23:04 (seventeen years ago) link

She didn't start a thread, she privately e-mailed Jenny.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 23:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Gear, you don't even hang out with LAers.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 23:08 (seventeen years ago) link

xp And the party that "we" were throwing was the infamous birthday party at Robin's place that involved me stumbling down to Jeff and Jenny's place with my pants around my ankles and Kenan falling down and hitting his head on the curb outside T's.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 23:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Then there are the lurkers, too, right? C0urtn3y has an account, although it seems like Jesse posts from it more than she does.

danno martinez (danno martinez), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 23:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Didn't one of gbx's friends lurk for a while, too?

danno martinez (danno martinez), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 23:12 (seventeen years ago) link

You mean Chicago Reader letters-column personality MARK DANJER?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 23:14 (seventeen years ago) link

that is true...i guess i'm naturally somewhat reticent about opening up a new social territory, which is probably just irrational.

A co-worker of mine (the one who told me about this job, in fact) used to post on ILB and a couple times on this thread, back in 2004.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 23:37 (seventeen years ago) link

She posted as "mck," and while I was looking for that, I found this:

i will be at schubas for the new year show, anyone who fancies a pint with me there is more than welcome to attend. i'll be the painfully thin guy sneaking back into the main bar area to grab secret smokes while my lady friend is (hopefully) thinking i'm going to the john. please don't tell her.

my gf used to post on ilx and one day we had this epiphany wherein she realized who i was from here (this was a couple months after we met)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 23:40 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh wait, I met someone at a totally un-ilx-related party in NYC and gave him my email address for a mailing list and when I got home I had an email reading, "Hi, are you Laurel that posts on ILX?". Garglarglagle

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 15 February 2007 00:00 (seventeen years ago) link

I just realized that I have absolutely no interest in large festivals like Lollapalooza anymore, if I ever did. Not only do they cost over $100, there's like a million bands that play them, and I dunno, I like treating live performances as something special, not as commodities to be chosen at random while wolfing down a corn dog and running from one side of the park to the other. It's just too overwhelming. I'll still go to Pitchfork Fest, though, where there's usually only one band playing at any given time (except for the DJ tent).

Some of my friends are talking about Bonnaroo. I think they're insane.

Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong. You took your pants down AFTER you came to our house and then slept in our hallway, on the bare floor, with your pants around you ankles. And Kenan fell and cracked his egg outside of Clark's on Clark. And in various and sundry flower beds on the way to Clark's on Clark.

This is also the party of the famous "homeboy" incident, which did at least cure me of calling everybody whose name I couldn't remember "homeboy."

I would have drinks with this "gear."

I am also waiting for the day that I run into a real life person who posts on ILX and then I will cry.

Handgun O. Mendocino (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 15 February 2007 00:37 (seventeen years ago) link

i scrolled down after reading post 4:30 entries but hstencil was the first ilxor i knew. it predated my posting to chilx threads however. he was the only person i knew here (save towga) before i moved here.
