i remember when I moved to New York in like 2002, i needed a TV and would find like medium sized CRTs at stoop sales for like $80. It's barely 9 years later and people just leave giant 70" monsters on the curb for a week and no one bothers to even pick em up for free

A dude down the block from us put out a huge ass CRT in an old wooden console with a 'FREE' sign in the alley. Somebody came by and decided they just wanted the scrap metal, so they kicked in the tube and yanked stuff out, leaving a broken CRT in the alley for four fucking months.

Dunno if they do this in the states but we got rid of ours by calling a local charity shop that has a furniture/electrical store and they came and picked it up. We later got a letter telling us they sold it for £20.

Charity shops around our area won't take electrical items, not even battery powered stuff.

not sure if it's true everywhere but in DC at least Goodwill has an electronics recycling program... i just took in a huge CRT monitor + a broken laptop this afternoon.

i was almost killed in college when, while moving out of the dorms, some assholes through their old CRTTV off the roof and it landed about five feet away.
