maybe all of us riding the amtrak together and stationing ourselves permanently in the cafe car was a bad idea, at least this is what my headache is telling me.

gin and sonic (Allyzay Eisenschefter), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:10 (seventeen years ago) link

no you're supposed to drink a lot on the way home from a vacation and/or on sunday night.

Mr. Que (Party with me Punker), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh Noes, TOMBOT be stealing mah fanclub.

Ed (dali), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:12 (seventeen years ago) link

OTM, we was drunk and listening to motorhead (the hawkwind version) and talking to spiders on the train last night.

Ed (dali), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:13 (seventeen years ago) link

good morning i am a shark.

friday night at the bottle i was sitting behind the merch booth when some dude introduced himself to my friend 1isa by saying he was in a band called the sharx. i tried to say i know evan but i was too drunk. then my friend mike asked me if we were good and i said "yeah, why?" and he said "i don't know, i just blacked out for the last hour."

it was one of those nights.

The only bad idea was not bringing your own booze.

Ed (dali), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:14 (seventeen years ago) link

i stole someone's coat at st ex last night?!

gin and sonic (Allyzay Eisenschefter), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:14 (seventeen years ago) link

YES

ZR (teenagequiet), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:14 (seventeen years ago) link

living in the cafe car was a good idea. going to saint-ex was probably the bad idea.

dr ghost rider (a_p), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:14 (seventeen years ago) link

you went to saint ex after you got home? yeah that was crazy! you should have gone sleepy time after train drinkin'

!!!!

was it a tall good-looking asian guy, or a less-tall, sort of funny looking jewish/swedish guy?

kissing, drinking, and insect songs (gbx), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:15 (seventeen years ago) link

We are wondering whether covering it at a very twee club would be too much like burning our bridges.

Ed (dali), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:15 (seventeen years ago) link

also who the fuck talks to spiders, that's what i want to know

kissing, drinking, and insect songs (gbx), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:16 (seventeen years ago) link

It wouldn't stay in the bag with the rosemary plant.

Ed (dali), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:16 (seventeen years ago) link

basically, i blame the cafe car for the decision to move onto a bar once back in dc, is the thing. though i guess if i'm going to point fingers i should just start with my lunchtime snack of wine.

gin and sonic (Allyzay Eisenschefter), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:16 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah, you pretty much have to live in the cafe car when riding Amtrak. I just got nostalgic for the cafe car.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:16 (seventeen years ago) link

fuck, the bad ideas started long, long before lunch time

dr ghost rider (a_p), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:17 (seventeen years ago) link

ed such concerns should not trouble a warrior on the edge of time such as yourself.

also gbx just send me something fun in return if you'd like, i like lots of stuff!

ZR (teenagequiet), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:18 (seventeen years ago) link

my usual amtrak return from NY tactic is to get drunk before getting on the train and then pass out smelling like booze. I am usually on a late train after the cafe car has closed, though.

break machine (Brian Miller), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:19 (seventeen years ago) link

The bad ideas started before lunchtime sounds like the first line of an unreleased Carver story.

Mr. Que (Party with me Punker), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:20 (seventeen years ago) link

I guess it depends on Doom learning the fiddle part.

Can we return to today's agenda:

How do I ensnare the scruffy hott french waitress?

Ed (dali), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:20 (seventeen years ago) link

was it a tall good-looking asian guy, or a less-tall, sort of funny looking jewish/swedish guy?

wasn't asian, had sort of long-ish hair and a retarded scarf. i'm kind of hazy on what he looked like but then again i was at a point where i couldn't figure out that $10 for a t-shirt and $4 for a 7" came to $14. i wouldn't say he was funny looking but i guess maybe you could.

gordon gartrelle (chicago kevin), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:21 (seventeen years ago) link

best time ever on a train: overnight from Malaga to Barcelona, me and buddy get bored and go to cafe car. End up drinking ALL THE BEER with three Scotch dudes. At one point, one of them disappears into the night at a whistle stop, returns 20 seconds before the train leaves with another case because the cafe was (a) closed and (b) out of beer.

THE BAD IDEAS OF THAT PARTICULAR DAY, I REFUSE TO GO BACK ANY FURTHER THAN WHEN I WOKE UP TO PIN POINT THE BAD IDEAS BECAUSE OTHERWISE I'M JUST GOING TO KILL MYSELF.

kissing, drinking, and insect songs (gbx), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:24 (seventeen years ago) link

i took the train from dc back to boston with 3 other guys i used to work with. my boss was afraid to fly so instead of a 90 minute flight it was a 13 hour train ride. we left at around 8 pm and had the bar car to ourselves the entire night. we tipped well and they let us drink until 3 a.m. when we had a lay over in penn station. we ran out and grabbed a couple of pints during our wait then went back and passed out in the sleeper cars.

it was actually a fun trip.

gordon gartrelle (chicago kevin), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:24 (seventeen years ago) link

your train had sleeper cars?!

gin and sonic (Allyzay Eisenschefter), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:25 (seventeen years ago) link

this is the point of overnight train journeys. I miss runs down to Naples from Turin, with big jugs of wine and ham bread and cheese to go with it.

yep. really really hard to sleep in the upper birth of one of those. i seem to remember they cost a lot of $$$ but work was paying for it so wtf did i care.

gordon gartrelle (chicago kevin), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:27 (seventeen years ago) link

kissing, drinking, and insect songs (gbx), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Upper birth is the best, it's like being rocked to sleep in a cradle.

Ed (dali), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:29 (seventeen years ago) link

I've never been in a train with sleeper cars! jealous!

Mr. Que (Party with me Punker), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:31 (seventeen years ago) link

if by "rocked to sleep in a cradle" you mean "shaken to death by an english nanny" then yes, i totally agree.

gordon gartrelle (chicago kevin), Monday, 26 March 2007 14:31 (seventeen years ago) link

ha, I think this is the difference between American trains and European trains.

guys my life is bullshit I've never been on a European train. :(

birth = berth

damnit my head is squidgy today, I blame, not the beer (gadd's no.7 how easily you slip down), or the brandy, (oh how capacious my hipflask is) but the really really shit vietnamese and tub of hagendasz I pickup on the way home.
