I went with Domino's but I'm going on distant memory here, the last time I had one was 2004 or '5 I think vs. a Round Table I think 2 years ago which was just very very depressing whereas the Domino's sucked but what the hell it was a cheese pizza and I was fuckin hungry

domino's reminds me of arguments w/ my college roommate where I took the side "I will eat any pizza but domino's" and he took the side "domino's is really cheap"

my parents had something against pizza hut as a kid so I never had it so it remains vaguely mysterious but still gross in my mind. same thing w/ wendy's.

had papa john's for the first time out of curiousity a few months ago. tasted like a donut w/ tomato sauce.

little c's reminds me of getting crazy bread as a kid at the huge kmart w/ a mini lc's attached. not sure I would dig it as much now but at least I have fond suburban junk food memories.

iatee, Wednesday, 28 December 2011 18:11 (twelve years ago) link

Wouldn't eat at Domino's for political reasons, even if the pizza wasn't terrible.

Went with Pizza Hut.

If you did that to me in Turkey, i'd have to kill you (ShariVari), Wednesday, 28 December 2011 18:14 (twelve years ago) link

I am like 30 seconds' drive outside the Papa John's delivery area, the only places which deliver here are Domino's and a local place which was pretty bad both times we tried it, so I have to admit we order Domino's maybe 3 times a year and they are... OK I guess

I am not in the US though so my opinion may be void on this matter

i feel like Little Caesars p much ruined pizza forever with its $5 HotnReady bullshit but there is actually about 20 miles from where I live one of those KMart/LC dining centres that iatee was referring to that will still actually make you a fresh pizza in about 15 mins while you wander around Kmart; they also still offer those great prices--I can get a pretty decent large Supreme pizza there for $9 tops, which is the best deal in the surrounding area

Pizza Hut has got to be the worst. I get that good fast pizza should be greasy but Pizza Hut crosses the line. IMO Dominos has gotten way better since the "new pizza" shebang. Little C's is neat in concept, I love being able to just pick up a quick n' dirty pizza without even ordering but you can binge way too easily on those and they dont really fill you up, just leave you kinda feeling sick

another suggestbanite (rusty flathead screwdriver), Wednesday, 28 December 2011 21:07 (twelve years ago) link

Never heard of Little Caesar's. Dominoes is awful - dry, sandy pizza with minimal toppings. Papa Johns is the opposite, and much better for it - big juicy pizzas with loads of toppings and when they say the pizzas are hot, they actually have jalapeno peppers on them, not the few dried chili shavings you get.

pizza hut etc pizza has always been a dreamed about luxury type food for me: rare friday nights when my mom was working late and she knew my dad wouldn't bother coming home and she'd leave a twenty and a ten on the kitchen table and we knew the number for pizza hut off by heart 691-4000. large canadian and large pepperoni with green olives. the adult feeling of talking to an adult on the phone and getting something sent over.

there weren't many pizza delivery guys working for pizza hut. usually the same guy. i can remember the smell when we opened the door and the cold air in our carport mixing with the cardboardy first smell of pizza. and the even more adult feeling of giving the remainder of the 30 as a tip.

then there was always the limited feeling when eating it. you can never eat enough. there are always too few slices. scraping cheese off the boxlid. cold in school lunch the next day. the texture of the rehardened cheese.

or when they had the pizza hut lunch buffet. oh man.

even later i dunno. i drive by a stripmall pizza hut and i want it so much but i know i won't have it and i settle for a buck-a-slice place (uncle fatih's near the commercial drive skytrain station? or romano's on granville, run by greasyskinned lebanese beauties).

1 pizza hut 2 dominos 3 little caesars (ate this once) 4 papa john's (ate this once in shanghai or somewhere else improbable)

dylannnnnnnnn, Thursday, 29 December 2011 13:07 (twelve years ago) link

i vote papa johns, their italian sausage is okay. pizza hut is lardville. dominos is laden with sugar and run by right-to-lifers. little caesars ditched this burg last century (i am britishes). but tbh i just got this book for xmas and hope to hit a sweet spot of pizza self-reliance v soon. http://images.indiebound.com/222/084/9781580084222.jpg

vividly remember the last time i ate dominos. off a frat house bedroom floor stoned as fuck (take a bong rip, drop shot of cuervo in beer, chug, exhale bong rip) with this korean kid named joe and his girlfriend dressed as an angel (angels and devils party). had some wings. i would give up a week of eating solid food to recreate that meal.

dylannnnnnnnn, Thursday, 29 December 2011 13:14 (twelve years ago) link

pizza hut canadian. love the way the crust is crispy on the bottom and becomes like a sponge of grease that looks like the yellow shit you can squeeze out of almost healed cuts.

higgs boson (the deli llama), Thursday, 29 December 2011 13:16 (twelve years ago) link

and that weird brainy uncooked dough texture that is revealed when the topping slips off.

and the pleasure of snatching the hub of melted cheese and pepperoni that's fallen into the central no man's land on a freshly delivered pizza and doesn't truly belong to any of the slices.

dylannnnnnnnn, Thursday, 29 December 2011 13:17 (twelve years ago) link

Pizza Hut! I haven't eaten at any of these pizza places in a long, long time, but I legitimately like Pizza Hut pizza as it tasted the last time I ate there. Also I worked at a Pizza Hut delivery place for like two weeks when I was in college.

It's also my default vote. Dominos is just a deplorable organization. I think I've eaten Little Ceasar's once in my life and it was gross. Papa John's garlic dipping sauce does such brutal things to my stomach that seeing a commercial for the pizza makes me involuntarily curl up into a protective ball.

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 29 December 2011 14:01 (twelve years ago) link

I feel like for 10 years Papa John's was the pizza at every single school/office/family gathering I ever went to and I probably have no problem with it but just got sick of it, although on a level playing field I probably like it the most of these. Last couple years I've been mostly ordering Domino's since they're cheap and I registered on their site for the super easy online ordering, but I kinda like their new pizzas.

some dude (Mr. Stevenson #2), Thursday, 29 December 2011 14:05 (twelve years ago) link

and unless i'm feeling like being lazy and using the Domino's site, i'll usually just grab one of the random menus left under my door for a local delivery joint and take my chances with those, and they're usually better than any of these.

some dude (Mr. Stevenson #2), Thursday, 29 December 2011 14:06 (twelve years ago) link

From these options, Papa > Hut >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dominos. I had LC's once 20 years ago but no memory of it.

There's a S'barro's in the food court here at work. I get a slice once in a blue moon but it doesn't even register as pizza to me, just bread and cheese with sausage.

wore glasses and said things (thejenny), Thursday, 29 December 2011 15:20 (twelve years ago) link

All of these are varying degrees of awful, but if forced to pick out of these options alone I have to go with Papa John's if only because of memories of them selling boxes for like $3 at the end of the night in campus town when I was in lolcollege.

Pizza Hut is for real the fucking worst though.

shakur rump (I left my login in El Sandboxo), Thursday, 29 December 2011 15:22 (twelve years ago) link

Note: my phone autocorrects "S'barro's" so either I once carefully typed in the wrong name or there was some other thing called S'barro's in the autocorrect dictionary developer's purview.

I worked at Domino's for years and can barely even stomach the smell of their food now. Pizza Hut changed their pizzas at some point and now they're gross and dry out way faster than they should. Little Caesars is good for $5, but not more any more than that. Papa John's is really the best chain pizza place, or at least the one with the freshest-tasting most diverse list of toppings and the crust is more bready than chewy.

God is great. God is good. And people are crazy. Amen. (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 29 December 2011 19:26 (twelve years ago) link

also I want to say that Papa Murphys is incredible (though it's probably best classified as "slow food"), the cheese and most of the toppings taste really great raw which I doubt Dominoes etc. do

btw I'm not really proud of trying to eat raw pizza but if you're really hungry and are craving P'murphs, it's like impossible in that moment where you're putting it in the oven to not swipe some cheese or an olive or a piece of pineapple and think damn, those are good ingredients. i stand behind that place

new dominos is so fucking slathered with liquids i have to wipe my hands between bites. who the fuck thought covering the crust in butter wasn't a repulsive idea?

yeah i get the complaint they dealt with that their old pizza wasn't "flavored" enough, which, yeah okay it was bland, but it's pizza and therefore pretty good, and it's less greasy than the Hut, plus it was usually only 5 bucks. but they really did overdo it on the "re-do", even though I generally like the new flavor I just wish it was, y'know, a little less

Pizza Hut above Dominos? Is that a political vote, or is US Pizza Hut a lot better than the UK one, or has it improved a hell of a lot in the (uhh) 12+ years since I last went to one?

OK, 12 years is a long time. Not that it feels like one.

The last time I had Pizza Hut was election night 2008. At that point in time, the only major pizza chain that was worse was S'Barro. I haven't had Domino's in a lot longer and apparently they've changed their shit up for the worse since then.
