anglo saxon would be more along the lines of Hakon, Clotilde, or Dagobert.

named the female-only character in old school rpg i was playing 'tristram' to try and ironise or undercut the fact i had automatically chosen the female character, felt maybe 0.2% better about myself

i named the horse in zelda "MY PUSSY" so everything the other characters would say about it would be dirty

"Valdiev played MY PUSSY's song"

used to name male characters my real name - helped set the 'mood'
sometimes would name them after my characters in FFIRC (final fantasy themed irc version of ad&d). two that I can remember are serpenthor (I think?) and nepenthe (after the river)
like thomp I would choose the female character when available. I remember I had a golfer in mario golf named marian, after marian the librarian in the music man.

I took my video gaming pretty seriously as a child! nowadays I would probably name them something like 'buttcheeks'

I tend to dump all my hate and aggravation and dumb jokes into character names. Heroes like Beavis, Whoremonger, Cuntkicker, Fartknight, Sir Beavis D'Azzmonch.

Having 4 letter slots works much better in Japanese, I'm assuming.

every time I start a new Zelda game I get a distant-fog-of-the-past giggle remembering how I played through the entire Ocarina of Time back when with a character named FUCKNUTZ

Constant customizable naming of things in Kairosoft games has led to many, many horrible creations.

Haven't played a game for a minute but I was in the habit of using New Jersey town names. I used these for Chrono Trigger, e.g.

Ewan
Elmer
Erial
Hobkn
Buena

and I forget what else. I wanted to use Ho-Ho-Kus but couldn't get it to make sense in 5 letters.

Looking back I was probably just ripping off Gargolyes

I always name characters after the cats.

I tend to name them after b-list celebs or out of date rockers, only slightly tweaked. So I have a skinny elf in Skyrim who has too much eye makeup named Elvish Cooper and a big headed Norn named Wank Martindale.
