i notice mnf has been choosing one themesong every week. it's weird.

"marcus allen's not as good as bo jackson/that's probably something he would dispute"

aidsy (aidsy), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 02:15 (seventeen years ago) link

if I were Brett Favre, I'd be annoyed at being associated with a song about a lackluster, maybe-abusive boyfriend. also, fuck you, MNF, for making me aware that I still remember lyrics to a Pearl Jam song.

holy shit, i love jimmy kimmel. "hey joe, how's your leg doing?"

also, he's refusing to talk during plays because he "hates when celebrities do that". omg <3

al harris is the 3rd DB with dreads to make a pick this weekend (see also asante samuel and pacman jones). something to look out for at the next combine!!

I think that crazy old geezer Bud that owns the Titans might try and keep Fisher around

Bud's already backing the GM I thought. And Fisher:GM as cats:dogs etc.

btw, do I have to reregister? fauxILX doesn't seem to like my login...

God the Browns suck.

This kinda turned into a good game.

"WHY does Monday Night Football keep playing Pearl Jam over shots of Brett Favre?"

Nothing is as weird as Fox using Fugazi's "Waiting Room" on Thanksgiving underneath advertising the Cowboys vs. the Giants for the next week.

earlnash, Tuesday, 28 November 2006 04:25 (seventeen years ago) link

they play "waiting room" at rfk during redskins games.

I take it back. TIME TO RETIRE, BRETT.

it was kind of good for a while. the snow helped.

WHY does Monday Night Football keep playing Pearl Jam over shots of Brett Favre?

because they both peaked around 1995?

otto midnight (otto midnight), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 14:24 (seventeen years ago) link

in my defense, it wasn't my quarterback that laid me low this week -- i got a lot of points from david gerrard. outside of larry j, all my other reliables let me down. i wouldn't really count me out yet, haters.

Haikunym, Tuesday, 28 November 2006 15:14 (seventeen years ago) link

WTF is with retards calling for QBs to be sacked left and right? Especially Vick and Manning? Jesus christ. The problem with the league ain't almost any of these kids been benched this year, the problem with the league is that there's no such thing as a second string coach.

I am at the point where I don't think I will ever forgive the Giants for passing up Lovie for Coughlin. What the hell.

Also that roughing the passer call pro-Hasselbeck last night made me really honestly wish some GB mofo would've rushed up and just flat out killed him. I mean, yeah, I guess the call wasn't Hassy's fault but that'd sure as shit shut up those obnoxious "fans" they have up there. See also: my complaint yesterday about whistles in stadium should be a capital crime.

Allyzay 'へ'凸, Tuesday, 28 November 2006 15:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Also, are Eisen and Mariuci completely drunk every Monday or something? When Marshall Faulk is sitting there trying to hold the show together and be professional in the face of blatant, rampant not givin a shit, I dunno what to say about it. Also: duder on the GB/Seattle sideline eatin the snow: what are you doing??

Allyzay'へ'凸, Tuesday, 28 November 2006 15:28 (seventeen years ago) link

I cannot wait 'til Coughlin's delicious, delicious media-trial-by-fire (which is starting, I've heard) and the team mutiny and the FIRING most of all. I don't care if they pull Madden out of his senility to coach, anything is better than a dude who can't control a team, can't write a playbook, and has never heard of a depth chart.

Allyzay'へ'凸, Tuesday, 28 November 2006 15:30 (seventeen years ago) link

watched the pats/bears game in this horrible new nashua new hampshire feeling nfl package equipped bar with so many lame-ass bears fans who kept yelling YEAH BABY and doing that loud finger in mouth whistling - i'm all please stfu you tedious midwesterners we're indoors ffs and in case you didn't notice despite their record yr team isn't that good o look yr qb just took another gigantic dump @ midfield. watching the once rowdy chicagoans get sad was kinda nice especially when they got the ball back w/under two minutes left and 80 yards to go thinking they still had a chance - so tender their naivety. still i couldn't enjoy it that much with ne's receivers so relentlessly encouraging me to do harm to myself and others.

jhoshea (jhoshea), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 15:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Baldinger trying to eat the snow was the absolute pinnacle of anything that had to do with last night's game

jhoshea, i grew up about 15-20 minutes down the river from nashua. the head shop we used to go to as twenty somethings was there, exit 5 off route 101A. merrimack, nh also has a place in my heart. what were you doing there?

Haikunym, Tuesday, 28 November 2006 15:47 (seventeen years ago) link

ha it's true! i'm from boston and i'm pretty sure i've been to that headshop.

jhoshea (jhoshea), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 15:52 (seventeen years ago) link

haha yeah there's been a lot of "o man we couldve had lovie" revisionism on atlanta talk radio this year. the story I've heard is that rich mckay was really high on lovie and nick saban but for whatever reason the owner insisted on mora. I sorta feel for the guy cuz I've always liked his intensity and how he relates to players and i like to think that he'd be in better shape w/different coordinators. but who knows. jeff fisher: bring em home mckay!

gahahalksha also did you guys hear about Michael irvin pulling a jimmy the greek? he is the most entertaining man in the history of football.

aidsy (aidsy), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 15:56 (seventeen years ago) link

i've noticed eerie similarities between grossman and circa '98 bledsoe. plays well enough to win, and a few games will make you think he's got potential to be great but then there are just as many games where he flat out sucks. plus, more often than not, there are a few series or at least a few throws per game that leave you scratching your head and wondering just what the fuck he was thinking.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 15:57 (seventeen years ago) link

that was pretty funny but nothing will ever compare to reggie white's race appreciation sermon.

xp

jhoshea (jhoshea), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 16:00 (seventeen years ago) link

just in case there's someone here who's never been exposed to these profundities:

http://www.cbn.com/imagescc/reggiewhite4.jpg

We always should look at the situation and ask ourselves a question. Why did God create us differently? Why did God make me black and you white? Why did God make the next guy Korean and the next guy Asian and the other guy Hispanic? Why did God create the Indians?

Well, it's interesting to me to know why now. When you look at the black race, black people are very gifted in what we call worship and celebration. A lot of us like to dance, and if you go to black churches, you see people jumping up and down, because they really get into it.

White people were blessed with the gift of structure and organization. You guys do a good job of building businesses and things of that nature and you know how to tap into money pretty much better than a lot of people do around the world.

Hispanics are gifted in family structure. You can see a Hispanic person and they can put 20 or 30 people in one home. They were gifted in the family structure.

When you look at the Asians, the Asian is very gifted in creation, creativity and inventions. If you go to Japan or any Asian country, they can turn a television into a watch. They're very creative.

And you look at the Indians, they have been very gifted in the spirituality.

reggiepaws

i really can't stress enough how funny the michael irvin thing is, you have to hear the audio if you haven't already. he starts cracking himself up halfway into it a la GWB. i think the most shocking thing was his assertion that romo is such a magnificent athlete, but I'm sure he'd have a difft opinion if he wasn't a Cowboy.

aidsy (aidsy), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 16:16 (seventeen years ago) link

I've only seen the Falcons play once (vs Browns) but what I saw of their receivers was simply amazing. Never, in history, have so many been so open and caught so few.

LK, Tuesday, 28 November 2006 17:08 (seventeen years ago) link

Ally totally OTM about Eisen and Mariucci. I seriously think Eisen is always always high.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 28 November 2006 17:23 (seventeen years ago) link

oh noes at tedious midwesterners and their enthusiasm, the rubes! the bears would have won if griese was in there, because the bears are much better than the pats if you put in a QB whose good stats weren't padded early on in the season. i'm not sure what griese ever did to deserve getting passed over for plummer, li'l simms, and whoever replaced him in miami. did he not have a good gameface? did he have the elvis grbac-style perpetual wince?

deep space nine (deep space nine), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 18:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 19:02 (seventeen years ago) link

deep space nine (deep space nine), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 19:04 (seventeen years ago) link

i sincerely apologize to all tedious midwesterners - if you could've just seen these bears fans, they were total douches, really.

jhoshea (jhoshea), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 19:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Well, for one thing they were Bears fans!

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 19:15 (seventeen years ago) link

the bears would have won if griese was in there, because the bears are much better than the pats if you put in a QB whose good stats weren't padded early on in the season

you are obviously on drugs. yes, put in the qb who couldn't win the job in camp, hasn't played all year, and put him in against the 2nd rated defense in the nfl. that would make complete sense.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 19:17 (seventeen years ago) link

griese, i am guessing, would not have thrown dumb deep ball INTs. mostly because he doesn't have an arm, lol.

deep space nine (deep space nine), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 19:20 (seventeen years ago) link

it was embarrassing to watch rex underthrow on those passes. and again, no need for a hail mary with just under two minutes left.

deep space nine (deep space nine), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 19:24 (seventeen years ago) link

thing is he hadn't been completing the short ones either. i'm sure the bears thinking was: there's no way grossman can come close to executing this 2 min drive so why not throw it deep and hope for another bullshit pass interference call.

jhoshea (jhoshea), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 19:34 (seventeen years ago) link

i don't think any of this matters, the chargers will probably win it all.

deep space nine (deep space nine), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 19:37 (seventeen years ago) link

i enjoy the work of the chargers and wouldn't be disappointed to see them will it all - but marty schottenheimer is their coach and he is a playoff bed-shitter.

my feeling is the patriots should acquire randy moss and win the super bowl

jhoshea (jhoshea), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 19:46 (seventeen years ago) link

that would delight me for so many different reasons.

aidsy (aidsy), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 20:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Well, wait a second, I mean saying "anything is better" doesn't mean that that is still not completely batshit insane.

xpost that is actually true, Dan. As a halfer, I am more comfortable with only about 10 people living with me at one time, though.
