the temperature was perfect though! spring is the best season in DC

is it cherry blossom season yet? I remember how all the tourists would stop at the top of the Metro escalators and not realize that they had to move, otherwise they'd cause a critical backup. grrrrr. cherry blossoms were pretty, though.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Friday, 23 March 2007 16:30 (seventeen years ago) link

oooooh one time i got dragged to cherry blossoms with $inlaw and it was like the bataan death march i swear to god, they were tearing through the entire mall so quickly. it was POSSIBLY the most stressful day of my life?

gin and sonic (Allyzay Eisenschefter), Friday, 23 March 2007 16:34 (seventeen years ago) link

i love the cherry blossoms, but that's because my office marches down every year at lunchtime to check out the tidal basin, it alwys rules hard and they give us free lunch.

DC is really too small to allow tourists in. they should be forced to enter a lottery or something; only a few at a time.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Friday, 23 March 2007 16:36 (seventeen years ago) link

oh that would be the awesomest

xpost O. T. M!!!!!! especially since dc only seems to attract incredibly dumbass stereotypical ugly, slow, fat middle america tourists to it? who, like, apparently have never seen an escalator before, much less even imagined the concept of trains?

gin and sonic (Allyzay Eisenschefter), Friday, 23 March 2007 16:37 (seventeen years ago) link

the Mall is really beautiful, no jokes. I miss DC something fierce at times because of it. I was always a big sap about visiting it unless it was tourist season. then I was filled with rage.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Friday, 23 March 2007 16:38 (seventeen years ago) link

i was a sap about it, too, until they tossed the WWII monument in the middle of it. now i am still sappy but less so.

maybe you should start a solo act called jerkface (Party with me Punker), Friday, 23 March 2007 16:39 (seventeen years ago) link

there are days that i get on at dupont and i just seriously consider throwing entire tour groups onto the tracks.

gin and sonic (Allyzay Eisenschefter), Friday, 23 March 2007 16:40 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah, really, how do you not understand that when you get to the top of an escalator, you walk away in timely fashion? otherwise all those people behind you have nowhere to go? it's not rocket science.

xpost I haven't seen the WWII monument. is it terrible?

horseshoe (horseshoe), Friday, 23 March 2007 16:40 (seventeen years ago) link

have never seen an escalator before

OTM!!!

it always amazes me seeing troops of boy scouts or whoever walking in place on escalators and yelling "look at me!" to the rest of the troop. Maybe I had a very technologically advanced upbringing but for serious don't they even have escalators in malls?

break machine (Brian Miller), Friday, 23 March 2007 16:41 (seventeen years ago) link

xpost. . .and cursing them out in German!

horseshoe, i don't think it is terrible once you get inside the actual monument, but from a distance it looks pretty awful in my opinion

maybe you should start a solo act called jerkface (Party with me Punker), Friday, 23 March 2007 16:41 (seventeen years ago) link

the WWII monument is nice actually but it's just in a really odd position, and it's not very inviting from the outside view, i think? it's weird.

and yes!!! people being all amazed by escalators!! i mean ok the dupont one is approximately 87 miles long so i can understand taking a picture of it but, srsly? it's not a ride? it's just an escalator? chill out? and yes when you get to the top MOVE.

though really honestly? the worst is actually the people who live in dc who rush up the escalator but then come to a DEAD STOP when they get to the top couple steps and just stand there and wait. wtf is that about?!

gin and sonic (Allyzay Eisenschefter), Friday, 23 March 2007 16:44 (seventeen years ago) link

so many of the tourists act like they just stepped onto the set of logan's run or something when they're in the train stations, it's totally bizarre.

gin and sonic (Allyzay Eisenschefter), Friday, 23 March 2007 16:45 (seventeen years ago) link

escalators confuse people in the craziest ways possible. i've never seen anyone been as confused by, say, an elevator.

maybe you should start a solo act called jerkface (Party with me Punker), Friday, 23 March 2007 16:46 (seventeen years ago) link

clearly I have to visit DC soon and see this WWII memorial. and give any clueless tourists the death glare.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Friday, 23 March 2007 16:47 (seventeen years ago) link

As was pointed out during the design phase of the WWII memorial, it's not so bad if you have the same taste in architecture as Hitler.

break machine (Brian Miller), Friday, 23 March 2007 16:47 (seventeen years ago) link

;_;
my workplace makes you enter the floor you're going to BEFORE you get on an elevator so now i have a habit of being confused by regular elevators and not entering my floor in a timely fashion because i think the elevator knows.

xpost yes yes visit DC!

hi Kevin, sorry I missed your post about the HC! hope you had fun!

always. dan and his supercute friend katie came out then jesse showed up just before midnight. after we closed the bar we were going to go to nick's but i ran out of money and the atm wouldn't give me any more so i went home. i fell asleep on the redline and woke up at 47th street. then i went to mcdonalds at chicago & state and ate cheeseburgers.

ok so my mom bought this card that she thought was hilarious, you open it up and then it starts singing captain & tennille's love will keep us together at you (starting at the part that goes I WILL I WILL I WILL I WILL really crazy and loud and actually kind of scarily), and kept making me listen to it all weekend.

so, i go to the cvs just now and there were two girls DOING THE EXACT SAME THING WITH THE EXACT SAME CARD.

why can i not escape this terrifying thing?
