@Mordy the pleasure of bullet hell games is in the learning curve! A good shmup will have an easy mode do not be ashamed. I'm still casually playing Radiant Silverfun once a week on easy mode and getting further and further.

Today I played Pirates on my bf's iPad for five hours. I aligned with Holland, attacked and converted every Port in the game to the Dutch cause. Felt bad for the Spanish at first, but then they put a 130,000 price on my head.

I watched my brother play Skyward Sword, it looked garish.

I watched two hours of Dark Souls a month ago and it looked unnecessarily difficult and unrewarding, but I'm a rogue-like purist

That is: I like fast keystrokes, strategy, and decisive outcomes. I dont like watching an undead 3D model in an evening gown run awkwardly down hallways for hours at a time for a fleeting external environment money shot

got bulletstorm on order as it happens(; ̄ェ ̄)

Guys, I'm playing Rage for some reason.

This is probably as close to a GTA-style remake of Autoduel as I'll ever get.

Playing thru Venture Towns just to unlock everything. Once I do that, Kairosoft games lose their appeal for me.

Played terraria last night just to test it out and see if it's worth the dosh.

kingfish sandbox bonaparte, Tuesday, 27 December 2011 20:00 (twelve years ago) link

What'd you think? I really enjoyed Terraria. Side scrolling cartoony Minecraft.

Mordy, Tuesday, 27 December 2011 20:08 (twelve years ago) link

Looooooool

I meant Dark Souls and sorry for snark I couldn't sleep last night.

oPal, Tuesday, 27 December 2011 21:07 (twelve years ago) link

Was going to buy Bastion in yesterday's Steam sale but the demo wouldn't run playably even on my desktop, and I prefer to play games on my laptop anyway. What has the world come to when my computer is too weedy to play an isometric arcade-RPG?

So I bought Terraria instead seeing as it is £1.49 on UK Steam today. Have only given it a quick go but seems fun so far.

Maybe but I think with these sandbox games you pretty quickly get a sense of whether or not it's gonna be a place where you wanna hang out and spend some time. And maybe just hanging out and spending time might not be what you want out of a game right now.

big hefty ledge of a truth bomb here.

in between painting i still been BF3ing, managed to get my first few ribbons for MVP over the past few days. loving the new maps.

Fozzielad, Tuesday, 27 December 2011 23:59 (twelve years ago) link

Anybody want free copies of Half-Life 2 and Episode 1? I just noticed that I somehow still have these in my Steam inventory.

http://kotaku.com/5871400/cut-paul-oceanmarketting-christoforo-a-breakhe-probably-just-has-roid-rage

I find this all very amusing.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 28 December 2011 03:31 (twelve years ago) link

zappi, Wednesday, 28 December 2011 15:33 (twelve years ago) link

ended up at a mall on boxing day (canada's answer to black fri) b/c my gf needed to... buy smoothies for her sick brother (who may have gotten sick bc he drinks these ridic booster juices every day and missed a day or two). I realized there was an eb games in the mall so I popped in and the deals were insane but the lines was real slow so I browsed for 5m, picked up some games, and waited in line for 45m... BUT! I got Catherine, LA Noire, Darksiders, and 2 copies of no More heroes 2 (one for my little bro) for about $50 total all used). So stoked to get back to my gaming rigs and try them.

Will M, Wednesday, 28 December 2011 16:05 (twelve years ago) link

ok I am not getting on with the Terraria controls, the combination of moving around with keys but only being able to interact with the thing you've moved to by clicking the mouse, which does nothing else, is doing my head in

(disclaimer: i am on a laptop with an awkwardly positioned mousepad, but it seems weird anyway)

brony island baby (case spudette), Wednesday, 28 December 2011 18:23 (twelve years ago) link

ok so i am prob going to go grab dead island tonight, but knowing me i will also walk out of the store with some other shit that is on sale/cheap. this is why i never finish games.

also that Ocean Marketing Strategy tale his hilarious. i know people who talk their way into marketing gigs through pure bravado and bs and i hate them all.

holy shit you guys, I got a skyrim in a cider wrapper and it works perfectly

river wolf, Thursday, 29 December 2011 01:07 (twelve years ago) link

If it works perfectly then it can't be Skyrim.

polyphonic, Thursday, 29 December 2011 01:14 (twelve years ago) link

Ok I can't speak to the game yet, but the intro to dead island is one of the most jarring things I've seen in games in a long while. That may not be a positive thing per se.

Terraria is worth purchasing. Wound up playing far too much of it last night.

kingfish sandbox bonaparte, Thursday, 29 December 2011 14:43 (twelve years ago) link

stayed at a friend's and played various ps3 things i hadn't seen

arkham city has amazing combat but i wanted to skip everything except the fighting - detective stuff a chore, stealth always a chore, open world with nothing in it a chore. -- plot a total nonsense. if you're playing the goddamn batman the plot shouldn't depend on your being surprised and overwhelmed three times in the first ten minutes; this is narrative-breakingly bad. on the other hand this is the least of the narrative's problems so. i mean, it's really, really fucking stupid. this after batman movies have managed to claw themselves back to moderately not-dumb

deus ex i was awful at because i can't aim with thumbsticks and combining that with a cover system made me completely hopeless, so i just watched the first half hour and asked questions. enjoyed that the apparent major plot twist was obvious in the first two minutes. this game seemed stupider than the original, i must say. -- in the first one at least the immediate HEY CONSPIRACY HEY stuff has the benefit of being totally ott; here it's just lame third-hand cyberpunk, which not even adam jensen's subdermal mirrorshade implants manage to tip over into actually amusing camp

then we spent two hours trying to beat gain ground on one of those sega compilations
