Fulham's attacking tactics seem to be inspired by Gervinho/pre-1953 England. It all seems to be 'get the ball anywhere in their half and RUN' regardless of getting anywhere or teammates etc.

That was fun, guessing who the sub was when Ferreira appeared. Thought it was Ballack for a second.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 26 December 2011 14:40 (twelve years ago) link

I dunno, I think I'd find them interesting if I wasn't so invested in the result. They never look in control of any game they play whilst simultaneously creating lots of chances. I think, and perhaps I'm wrong, that Spurs are the only team to have put more than one goal past us all season. Carragher seems to have been moved out of the starting line-up lately so that's progress of sorts. Gerrard's on the bench today which considering he's our best finisher(!)is probably good news.
xp

Chelsea are worse to watch than Liverpool

Number None, Monday, 26 December 2011 14:42 (twelve years ago) link

If Chelsea finish sixth I will be quite amused.

pandemic, Monday, 26 December 2011 14:44 (twelve years ago) link

I guess that's fair xp. My view is coloured by either seeing us dominate and not score, or needing a winner and not looking like getting it, far too often.

When did Gerrard last have a regular run btw? Is he getting on for a year out in practice?

Ismael Klata, Monday, 26 December 2011 14:45 (twelve years ago) link

About that Ismael. I barely even consider him a LFC player now tbh. He's more Kieran Gibbs than Ledley King at this point.

pandemic, Monday, 26 December 2011 14:48 (twelve years ago) link

I'm sure you guys know more than me but i've read a good bit of speculation that Gerrard is more or less done

Number None, Monday, 26 December 2011 14:51 (twelve years ago) link

Wouldn't be surprised, but he did reappear briefly v [somebody] this season and looked reasonably on-the-pace. Also Carragher's showing just how long you can be more or less done and keep playing, so who knows how long he's got.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 26 December 2011 14:54 (twelve years ago) link

yeah wouldn't surprise me. shame. cos for all the stick I give him (mainly in reaction to how much hype he gets elsewhere) the guy has provided more than enough jaw dropping moments.

pandemic, Monday, 26 December 2011 14:56 (twelve years ago) link

Is that 3 draws in a row for the Chelsea side that had 'turned the corner' only last week? Or are we going with x games unbeaten instead?

pandemic, Monday, 26 December 2011 14:57 (twelve years ago) link

Fuck Paul Robinson out injured, cue heroic performance by the sub goalie.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:00 (twelve years ago) link

Park, however, is in my fantasy team, so all's well that ends well.

Utd looking surprisingly decent actually

Number None, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:13 (twelve years ago) link

Valencia's playing a Dani Alves role pretty much

Number None, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:14 (twelve years ago) link

commentators on my stream now blaming gamst-pedersen for odemwingie's goal last week. let's ignore the fact it was a fantastic goal eh fellas.

pandemic, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:17 (twelve years ago) link

When did Gerrard last have a regular run btw? Is he getting on for a year out in practice?

He had a fair run of games in Hodgson's team.

Enrique showing why he can't get in the Spain team - can be very wasteful in possession.

Chris, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:17 (twelve years ago) link

He got knacked around the same time Dalglish took over, no?

I scored a ticket for the Arsenal-Utd game next month, to my surprise. I've passed it on to a relative though, so I guess United immediately becoming irresistible was inevitable.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:19 (twelve years ago) link

nice from maxi and johnson.

pandemic, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:19 (twelve years ago) link

Sent off in KD's first match, FA Cup v Man Utd, and I think he was out after the 3-1 Kuyt hat-trick game v Utd in March.

Chris, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:22 (twelve years ago) link

jones and rooney in my fantasy team. Thanks Fergie.
Me too. I played my wild card to try and rescue my terrible season with Jones as my jewel signing, he was injured within minutes.

The Artist Formerly Known As Teh HoBB, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:24 (twelve years ago) link

well their keeper's not had a save to make yet. so poor.

btw Chris and Ismael who's been our best player so far this season would you say? Last season Lucas by a country mile. This season? I'd be tempted to give it to Glen Johnson tbh.

pandemic, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:26 (twelve years ago) link

All is not lost, Rooney is warming up

Number None, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:26 (twelve years ago) link

well he's made a save now. Fuck.

pandemic, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:27 (twelve years ago) link

Was it last year or the year before that carrick played CB, away to Fulham possibly?

Think it was around Dec or Jan of the 09/10 season. IIRC United had a catastrophic defence injury crisis (eight defenders out?) with only Evra being fit. Ferguson chose to play 3-5-2 with Evra in midfield and United got humped.

The Artist Formerly Known As Teh HoBB, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:29 (twelve years ago) link

that 'pass' from carroll just now..i can't even...

pandemic, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:29 (twelve years ago) link

Absolute-best probably Suarez or still Lucas. Reina as well, you just get used to him though.

Playing-to-potential best is what the question really means though, right? Johnson's a good shout, maybe Enrique too. Adam's been much better than I'd expected too.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:30 (twelve years ago) link

Lucas was laughably good. That run of Chelsea, City, Chelsea were the 3 of the best individual performances I've ever seen. Other than him, Johnson, Skrtel and Enrique have all been consistently terrific this season.

Chris, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:31 (twelve years ago) link

Thinking though, the CBs must've been rocks, but I can't say I've really noticed.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:31 (twelve years ago) link

not sure that's offside there. Bugger.

pandemic, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:33 (twelve years ago) link

Sensational move, what a pity! Enrique being all Gerson(?) in 1970.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:33 (twelve years ago) link

did you see gary nev's analysis of Lucas' performance against City Chris?

pandemic, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:34 (twelve years ago) link

If Adam hadn't peppered his first few games with daft shots from the halfway line and ridiculous passes then he'd be in with a shout.

Chris, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:34 (twelve years ago) link

luckily blackburn had crap quality on the cross cos LFC napping at that corner.

pandemic, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:37 (twelve years ago) link

we will wait until the last game of the season before deciding to take a proper share of our chances leading to a 7-0 win and optimism for next season.

pandemic, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:40 (twelve years ago) link

Connor Sammon sent off for an arm in Carrick's face. Weird.

Number None, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:41 (twelve years ago) link

this has the stench of 'last game on MOTD' about it.

pandemic, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:41 (twelve years ago) link

Chelsea game was pretty dire, there's still something to play for lads.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 26 December 2011 15:42 (twelve years ago) link

Thinking though, the CBs must've been rocks, but I can't say I've really noticed.
They have been, they compliment each other so well. Skrtel looks a lot more comfortable alongside Agger than Carra. Beast in the air, defends on the front foot, goal threat from set pieces and not afraid to venture forward like Agger. Lots of question marks over him but he's been great this season, and also very under-rated last season too.

did you see gary nev's analysis of Lucas' performance against City Chris?
I did. Was already aware of how good he'd been, but to see it from that aerial POV just focussed on him was a real treat. Thing is he wasn't just snuffing out attacks, and he wasn't just doing that last season. There was some serious Xabi Alonso-esque control going on, not even joking. Those last 3 games were breath-taking.

My 4-0 prediction for today isn't looking too promising.
