I love slippers so much I have regularly got in the car and only realised later that I still had them on. I've set off for holidays twice with them on. I would happily wear them to work but The Man says I can't.

haha I was just going to post feral-slut hair in quotes w/ exclamation points, but I see someone else has.

For the record, feral-slut hair is the most sexy hair-style.

"feral slut-hair"!!!

I just saw a man wearing the slipper whose photo Michael White posted. Without socks. With rolled-up jeans. I ran from him.

So you would not be blinded by his solar-flare level élan.

The sad reality in, my case, is actually this:

If I'm not barefoot, I'll slip on an old pair of these and on weekends, when I'm doing laundry downstairs, that's pretty often.

House Shoes, AKA Crip Slips AKA those wide wale corduroy slipers from the army surplus or swap meet that come in black, brown and navy.

Slippers are fucking awful. Sloppy, usually ugly, and they just bring down the quality of any outfit, no matter how nice the rest of it is. Crocs especially make me want to start hacking off feet left and right.

Stay away from me with that hacksaw, jesus chr--HEY I MEAN IT!

Like handicapping a racehorse, fleece-lined scuffs advertise my volcanic baseline hottness.

The same applies to my general slovenliness, feral-slut hair, disinclination to change my clothes, wear makeup or give a shit in any way.

It still amazes me how my mother and her friends are shocked by women over the age of 16 who don't dye their hair, wear makeup, or generally try unnatural means to "look their best". I told my mother that when blokes started wearing makeup, I might too.

As for slippers for blokes, I like these Hermes ones:

The Bloke doesn't wear slippers, but instead has a pair of brown leather flip flops (possibly Timberland ones, but I am not sure) which he wears around the house. He often complains that his feet are cold though.

My colleague's suggestion:

That looks like you have a couple of dead squirrels lashed to your feet.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 11:15 (seventeen years ago) link

I think that's pretty much what it is.

Personally, I'm veering towards:

Also : the clog version of australian Ugg boots (I think they are called 'cluggs') look rather cosy ....

Techno-colleague has suggested the inevitable USB-powered slipper.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 11:25 (seventeen years ago) link

Presumably you can't roam too far from your USB hub though, and I suspect there would be a certain amount of wire-tripping-overage done.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 11:29 (seventeen years ago) link

CJ: I do like the look of those cluggs, much as I've always hated uggs.

Tracer: If you can get my Dad to wear that makeup, I will be impressed.

My ex boyfriend used to wear slippers like these, but brown:

http://dts.ystoretools.com/1002/images/250x1000/woslforki.jpg

(I thoroughly approve of slippers, BTW. I have LL Bean sleep shippers. They are toasty comfy, I'd wear them all the time, even outside, if they had better soles. They're kind of rubber, so I can just about put out the rubbish in them, but wouldn't wear them properly walking.)

masonic boom (kate), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 12:03 (seventeen years ago) link

I have very steep stairs in my house, and the stair treads are particularly narrow, making them incompatible with the wearing of most slippers esp big novelty ones such as those which Kate has posted as, while they look really cool, they'd be too dangerous. I could see myself going base-over-apex all the way down the stairs if I tripped while wearing those.

Narrow steep stairs + big slippers + my general state of sleepyheaded clumsiness = a broken neck for sure

C J (C J), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 12:14 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't wear big novelty slippers! That was my ex!

I wear ones like these (lower left hand corner) now. Very comfy. And with rubber soles for going down stairs. (And if you feel like going climbing about on television transmitters.)

masonic boom (kate), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 12:20 (seventeen years ago) link

They're nice! They're like a suede-y version of those jaunty deck shoes you wear on board yachts.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 12:24 (seventeen years ago) link

Yes! Except the jaunty strings keep coming untied, and I trip over those.

masonic boom (kate), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 12:25 (seventeen years ago) link

And there you were, trying to convince me the'd be safe to wear on my steep stairs .....

[...] to be able to wear something so incredibly dowdy [...] like handicapping a racehorse, fleece-lined scuffs advertise my volcanic baseline hottness.

The same applies to my general slovenliness, feral-slut hair, disinclination to change my clothes, wear makeup or give a shit in any way.

I unconditionally endorse this stance.
