i would ask some of my bathub poitín making relatives how it's done but they are alas all in the great still in the sky

Details are still sketchy on the mechanics of whiskey making but I am told by the other participants that we have "a plan"

My plan is not to be the first one to try the whiskey

My sister made delicious Scofflaw cocktails last night: rye whiskey, vermouth, grenadine, lemon juice and orange bitters.

Was still full of 2 p.m. Christmas dinner last night, so supper was a bowl of popcorn and three fingers of bourbon on an ice cube.

cracked my van winkle rye earlier tonight. now enjoying some henry mckenna. there's always room for rye and bourbon.

I'll need to replace my Knob soon, and see Four Roses taking its place, maybe.

i polished off half a gift fifth of jameson's over the course of 3 hours at a friend's house tonight. it's not exactly my go-to irish but who am i to be fussy on such an occasion?

i was out in vegas/CA pre-holidays, so i'm at my parents' house with a bunch of beers i trucked back to the east coast

choice brews so far:

bruery smoking wood + oude tart
russian river damnation 23 + fresh pliny the elder
alchemist heady topper (leftover from thanksgiving, so we did the pepsi challenge with this and the pliny; almost everybody thought it was way better)
deschutes abyss (2010 + 2011)
alpine nelson rye ipa
fiftyfifty eclipse (elijah craig 18 yr version; this was just great)

got a bottle of green chartreuse for xmas! stoked to make things with it

Got a 4-pack of this year's Sam Smith Winter Welcome today...looking forward to that.

Been genuinely surprised by the number of friends and acquaintances who've opted for a dry Christmas actually.

Meanwhile, have been enjoying champagne, a rather nice New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc from the local offie, Baileys and Stones Ginger Wine.

A couple of nights ago had a few pints of Youngs seasonal ale, Angels, appropriately enough in a pub called the Angel and Greyhound.

ive been buying some proper ale type stuff like 'goose island pale ale' & 'sierra nevada pale ale' along w/ claret & chablis

Made greyhounds with fresh-squeezed grapefruit last night. Hit the spot.

not a fan of sweet drinks in general, but would drink ^^ bet it's good w/hendricks

yeah i am always wary of anything containing syrup but a mission of mine has been to try making stronger syrups i can use less of. this might be a good place to start.

some friends brought me some of the Dogfish Robert Johnson's Hellhound On My Ale as thanks for shoveling their walk while away for the holidays...it is very nice, crazy hoppy. the whole robert johnson thing makes me cringe a lil bit, but whatevs, good beer!
