playing blur and man this game (much like split/second) was totally slept on, people into arcady burnout type racers really need to play both of them

I see this is cheap on Steam for uh the next hour ($5? guessing at US price from UK one)

wondering whether to get Limbo on its own or get the "Super Indie bundle" (LIMBO, Fractal: Make Blooms Not War, Hacker Evolution, Gemini Rue, Revenge of the Titans, Solar 2, Dungeons of Dredmor, Bunch of Heroes, Lightfish, Cave Story+)

haven't heard of anything in the other indie bundle. also kind of sitting on my hands trying not to buy e.g. the Telltale bundle as this christmas has been way too expensive

i've been playing Cave Story+ and it's fun, tho not great (and kinda furry, too). Limbo is amazing tho, and should be gotten one way or another. I've heard good things about Fractal, and haven't heard of any of the other games on that list

Mordy, Friday, 23 December 2011 21:03 (twelve years ago) link

the whole telltale package is too expensive, but can any of you recommend the best games from it? maybe i'd be a few...

Mordy, Friday, 23 December 2011 21:08 (twelve years ago) link

I mainly just want to catch up on the Sam & Max series, as I loved the original game way back when but have managed not to play any of the past 6 years' worth. So, no idea if they're any good.

(also I enjoyed the first Puzzle Agent and the first Hector game but they're both probably kind of an acquired taste, I think? I mean if you miss 90s point+click graphical adventures but always wished they were ruder and more British then Hector is yr game, but...)

brony island baby (case spudette), Friday, 23 December 2011 22:12 (twelve years ago) link

sam & max season 2 is my fave. the sam & max pack is a better deal though. i have not played jurassic park, w&g, and i only played one bone episode.

puzzle agent is a short and easy layton clone but the first one has a great moment in it. hector is a bad knockoff of the ben & dan games.

I quite like Dungeons of Dredmor - if you like roguelike games it's pretty decent.

dredmor's visual design really puts me off. also it being called 'dredmor'.

the indie bundle at http://www.humblebundle.com/ has cave story + as well. also super meat boy and gratuitous space battles. and some other things.

i am tempted by frozen synapse on 75% on steam rn BUT having just wasted two hours on the demo without managing to complete a mission i am less certain that is a good idea

beat Jamestown tnite. STG w/ a sci-fi colonial America theme. lots of fun!

Mordy, Monday, 26 December 2011 02:32 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i really dig Jamestown but my only gripe is that i'm used to the super fast ship control of all those bullet hell games

Armin Tamzarian (ok), Monday, 26 December 2011 06:12 (twelve years ago) link

Rocksmith pwning right now, as the blisters/calluses on my fingers attest. (Then again, I could say the same thing when I first got my guitar, so we'll see about the long-term commitment.) Was stuck on "In Bloom" yesterday and today, but I guess my Xmas present was getting past Nirvana.

Ryan LZA (Leee), Monday, 26 December 2011 06:25 (twelve years ago) link

anyone have experience w/ beat hazard?

Mordy, Monday, 26 December 2011 18:53 (twelve years ago) link

Can't get into Jamestown - a nice concept, but the wide screen and sparse distribution of bullets makes it less than tight enough. Especially when I recently got Mushihime-sama on the ios and it's more or less the perfect schmup: Simple and to the point, filled with an amazing amount of bullets in Ultra difficulty mode.

abcfsk, Monday, 26 December 2011 21:12 (twelve years ago) link

bullet hell shmups are basically too hardcore for me. i've liked the genre ever since i played 1943 as a kid on the arcade in my dentist's office, and Jamestown works bc it's not too hard (the settings basically let you ramp up until you hit your skill ceiling), but i've seen ppl -- esp i used to see this in my college library all the time -- play these STG's where the whole screen is brightly colored bullets and it seems like less of a game and more of memorizing exactly where the one non-dangerous space is going to move on the screen.

Mordy, Monday, 26 December 2011 21:28 (twelve years ago) link

started skyward sword today, loving it

I got a lot of other stuff going on in my life that sort of shapes my video game time (i.e. new dad, busy year ahead that requires lots of focused work right now) but I just couldn't really get that into Red Dead Redemption once I finally got around to it - which was weird to me because I loved Revolver (and Gun for that matter, I'll play anything western-themed) but Redemption just felt...boring? idk maybe I didn't stick with it long enuf

Maybe but I think with these sandbox games you pretty quickly get a sense of whether or not it's gonna be a place where you wanna hang out and spend some time. And maybe just hanging out and spending time might not be what you want out of a game right now.

ledge, Monday, 26 December 2011 22:22 (twelve years ago) link

There is no good reason for this considering I have a million games right now, but I think I might pick up saints row 3 and dead island after work tonight.

Brink is garbage right?

i have been playing frozen synapse. i still don't know if i like it.

thompp, Monday, 26 December 2011 23:04 (twelve years ago) link

I don't play Frozen Synapse myself, but my brother plays quite a lot and often complains about the lack of ppl to play with. looks like a fun game tho, might try and give it a second spin sometime

V79, Monday, 26 December 2011 23:12 (twelve years ago) link

i played frozen synapse multiplayer for a few days with a friend who was in the army for several years. i found it to be no fun at all why because i got my ass kicked constantly

@Mordy the pleasure of bullet hell games is in the learning curve! A good shmup will have an easy mode do not be ashamed. I'm still casually playing Radiant Silverfun once a week on easy mode and getting further and further.

Today I played Pirates on my bf's iPad for five hours. I aligned with Holland, attacked and converted every Port in the game to the Dutch cause. Felt bad for the Spanish at first, but then they put a 130,000 price on my head.

I watched my brother play Skyward Sword, it looked garish.

I watched two hours of Dark Souls a month ago and it looked unnecessarily difficult and unrewarding, but I'm a rogue-like purist

oPal, Tuesday, 27 December 2011 09:56 (twelve years ago) link

That is: I like fast keystrokes, strategy, and decisive outcomes. I dont like watching an undead 3D model in an evening gown run awkwardly down hallways for hours at a time for a fleeting external environment money shot

oPal, Tuesday, 27 December 2011 10:01 (twelve years ago) link

got bulletstorm on order as it happens(; ̄ェ ̄)

Guys, I'm playing Rage for some reason.

This is probably as close to a GTA-style remake of Autoduel as I'll ever get.

Playing thru Venture Towns just to unlock everything. Once I do that, Kairosoft games lose their appeal for me.

Played terraria last night just to test it out and see if it's worth the dosh.

What'd you think? I really enjoyed Terraria. Side scrolling cartoony Minecraft.

Mordy, Tuesday, 27 December 2011 20:08 (twelve years ago) link

Looooooool

I meant Dark Souls and sorry for snark I couldn't sleep last night.

oPal, Tuesday, 27 December 2011 21:07 (twelve years ago) link

Was going to buy Bastion in yesterday's Steam sale but the demo wouldn't run playably even on my desktop, and I prefer to play games on my laptop anyway. What has the world come to when my computer is too weedy to play an isometric arcade-RPG?

So I bought Terraria instead seeing as it is £1.49 on UK Steam today. Have only given it a quick go but seems fun so far.
