Oh wow, this is a great idea and I'll probably try to listen to this (I know what it's like to slave over mixes to little to no response, but not with such effort!)

every time I listen to this song, EVERY TIME, I keep waiting for them to say "carl craig" and then the song is over and they never say it and I think "oh right, too fucking obvious"

― El Tomboto, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 18:39 (4 years ago) Permalink

dr. dre is most definitely in the house, yeah.

― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 October 2007 18:40 (4 years ago) Permalink

i had the impression for some reason that (w/ the exception of brian wilson, dr dre and george clinton) it was a list of people they'd performed with

― moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 18:41 (4 years ago) Permalink

though if that was true it'd beg the questin of why there's no french DJs on the list

― moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 18:42 (4 years ago) Permalink

Little Louis and Louie Vega are the same dude.

What!? No Kerri Chandler?

No Carl Craig!?

― micarl, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 18:51 (4 years ago) Permalink

Needs more Hi-NRG, more Chic, and more Euro disco.

Shitty, that didn't work at all.

― talrose, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 19:52 (4 years ago) Permalink

T/F: Daft Punk would sound better if they were influenced by Lou Bega instead of Lou Vega

― Curt1s Stephens, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 19:53 (4 years ago) Permalink

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF argh

― HI DERE, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 19:55 (4 years ago) Permalink

I'm inclined to vote for Kenny Dope.

― Tim F, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 20:58 (4 years ago) Permalink

the extended mix doesn't actually include more names. maybe the live version does?

― That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 21:00 (4 years ago) Permalink

Gotta go for Hell.

― Tuomas, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 21:02 (4 years ago) Permalink

Though it's nice they included Gemini, I'd almost forgotten about him.

― Tuomas, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 21:02 (4 years ago) Permalink

weird that they lead off with 'spanker' johnson, ex-editor of the new statesman and legendary apostate of the left.

― That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 21:25 (4 years ago) Permalink

genius idea for a thread. i remember trying to find out who half these guys were when i was 15.

i'm gonna go with dave clarke, i've seen him play some cracking sets.

― pc user, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 21:40 (4 years ago) Permalink

Is "Armani" = Robert Armani?

― Tuomas, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 21:46 (4 years ago) Permalink

Carl Craig is in the house yeah

― admrl, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 21:55 (4 years ago) Permalink

Uh certainly Sir John = Surgeon, right?

I wish they had a whole lot more of these guys' influence in their more recent work but maybe I'm in the minority.

I want to vote for Deeon or Rush or Waxmaster, but honestly Jeff Mills has probably influenced me and my tastes more than anyone on the list.

― sous les paves, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 22:32 (4 years ago) Permalink

i had the impression for some reason that (w/ the exception of brian wilson, dr dre and george clinton) it was a list of people they'd performed with

They at played tons of raves in the Midwest in the mid 90's (before Homework came out) with a whole lot of the guys on this list (all the Chicago/Detroit dudes) so I always took the song to be a tribute to that period/scene.

i voted for dj slugo exclusively due to their awesome mispronunciation of his name. i love this track, its all about the extended mix on the flip of the one 12" for "around the world". DP were so much better when they just tried to rip off chicago house.....

― pipecock, Thursday, 1 November 2007 02:35 (3 years ago) Permalink

Definitely DJs on the low.

Every new Daft Punk album/tour has had a lot of related talk on ilm! And most of those people are still on ilx, although not many are posting on the sandbox.

I think you drastically underrate the love for Daft Punk around here.

knackered housecat, Saturday, 31 December 2011 02:19 (twelve years ago) link

yeah asking "Any fans of 'Homework' era Daft Punk on here?" is like the ilx equivalent of "does a bear shit in the woods?"
