wow, i never knew mcvie was on that velez album. i did not buy it when we had it at work, but i did listen to it a bunch.

listening to my beloved Valhalla album on United Artists. one of my fave albums ever. i think radioactive put out a cd of it, but we are supposed to boycott them so search out the vinyl. i don't think it's a ton of money. so gorgeous. and hard-rocking!

now i'm listening to one of those weird black bean & placenta things. i don't even know what most of it is. it's, like, four albums and two CDs(!!) and hardly any of it is labeled. and it cost, like, 5 bucks new. i've never listened to it. maria bought it years ago. shortcut freaks and yak brigade is pretty much all the info on two of the albums.

see, now, the black bean stuff, that's the indie shmindie stuff i can take cuz it's all diy jangly feelies/too pure/teenbeat kinda vibe and sometimes weird and sometimes teenypop/tweepop. i like that. it's just that horrible boring generic amerindie death cab crap that is like a plague of locusts to me. or some death cab dude that "discovers" "beats" or some such shit.

YAK BRIGADE is Jacob Anderson, friend of the Raggett from college. Talented musician whose work began with the Raunchy Young Lepers and stretches across many more cassette/cd-r noise/pop bands like Gang Wizard with Mike who ran Blackbean. Nice guy.

I also got the Wire's REWIND 06 issue to read on the bus, and some issues of comics I missed out on, and season 1 of veronica mars and some movie about Michael Douglas going on a rampage. Then I went to the thrift store and bought a sweater and a bunch of VHS tapes, mostly Star Trekky in nature.

the best of lists this year across the board (which are usually terrible anyway) are even worse than usual. the War has been lost and the Mainstream swallows all like a ravenous blackhole. Thanks, Arthur!

can't play CDs this week, so have listened to radio on non-stop scan the whole time. it's kind of hard to imagine listening to the radio any other way now

i spent a 25 minute car ride scaning the radio on fri night when i was upstate...not a single thing worth listening to...and sooooooooooo much banter/comercials...seriously, how can anyone listen to radio these days...even the college stations were awful

I think New York City to Central Jersey might be the best radio strip in the country - you've got WKCR (Columbia), WFMU, WNYU, WNYC (NPR), WPRB when you get far enough south/west, the Pacifica station when you want to get radical, and even some of the commercial stations ain't bad - WBLS when it's music and not Wendy Williams, Hot 97, that classic rock station at 104.3, etc.

i was playing this spanish copy of JD's Closer that i have - but have never played - and it's way too fast! ian sounds vaguely chipmunkish. kinda funny.

i better have a real copy of it around here or i'll kill myself. OMG! wouldn't that be fitting??!!
