I'm kind of vaguley curious about the "sarge" audio referred to above b/c it sounds like it could be teh omgwtf/funney or good for looping & embedding in threads for lulz, but I suspect in actuality it's really grim, boring and depressing to listen to.

TORQUE is a great name for a bad band. It suggests either badn foursquare hard rock or even worse directionless noodly fusion. You can imagine a guy playing one of those multi-thousand dollar prs special edition guitars in a band called TORQUE.

guys like sex, and hot looking women.

hahaha I love "Because guess what." as a sentence.

he just wrote something that i don't hate!

anyone else read the piece on paul nelson by neil strauss in the current RS?

he is a capable journalist when he wants to be and when it isn't about him. i mean, i read his stuff years ago and never got the idea he was a major-league sleaze or anything. his nerd anger fire was in check. i don't know what happened to him. he lost his mind.

I worked w/Neil as an editor 10 yrs ago, before he went all LA. typical nerdy music geek dude, albeit with ambition to burn. he picked my brain/learned what he could and moved on. whatves.

somehow this polinko guy makes me feel better about turning 49!

Hey, he's in a rock band.

The thing that bugs me most about him is how he's like "life's sweet, I'm all buff, I even play guitar in a rock band." YOU PLAY BASS, DICKFACE.

the pony-poop paradox (the pony-poop paradox), Friday, 29 December 2006 22:12 (seventeen years ago) link

NB there is nothing wrong with playing bass, which is exactly why you shouldn't be some giant dicktard and try to fool casual observers into thinking you play lead or something.

the pony-poop paradox (the pony-poop paradox), Friday, 29 December 2006 22:13 (seventeen years ago) link

Bass-playing is in fact more manful. But he's obviously trying to fool the casual, non-music-loving bowflex buyer.

Five strings ain't manful.

Have you guys ever seen the lady version of the Michael Polinko commercial? With the 50 YO "MILF" with the enormous fake breasts and a "Bowflex Body"? I like to think that she is the former Mrs. Polinko and when "Mickey" had his midlife crisis and joined his Irish pub cover band and bought a car and a bowflex and left her to go try to pathetically pick up on women half his age at the beach (as depicted in the ad), she also bought a Bowflex and some boobs and her ad is an answer, kind of like YouTube holla backs.

Having to put "MILF" in quotes like that reminds me of Pete S. and his "MIF" v "MILF" distinction which I think is very pertinent here.

I like that the woman who I imagine is his ex-wife has a Bowflex AND a cabana boy, I mean that is living the dream no matter what your sex is, screw playing "guitar" in a "rock band".
