it's been an epic sleep deprived few days. i picked up Red Dead Redemption and MW3 to go along with the new Uncharted which came with the console. waiting to start Uncharted until my holidays begin because once i pop that game in, i'm not touching the others!

what's Wipeout like? (i honestly don't know alot about gaming) that game's been around for a while, no?

sir thermo of thinwall, Wednesday, 21 December 2011 18:31 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, it's a futuristic hover racer with weapons and speed boosts and awesome music you can sub out for your own soundtrack and like 5 different play modes including one where the goal isn't to win the race but to blow up as many of your opponents as possible before time runs out

OH NOES, Wednesday, 21 December 2011 18:38 (twelve years ago) link

seriously this narrator thing in bastion is like having a randy newman simulator "hey the kid is hitting some stuff, hey now he walked off the edge of the world, that guy sure is shooting lots of arrows today" *smashes mute button*

PROVEN BY BOOZE SCIENCE, Wednesday, 21 December 2011 18:41 (twelve years ago) link

The narrator in the demo turned me off so much that I never even considered buying that game.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 21 December 2011 18:46 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i only bought it because it was on sale and people seem to love it so much, but unfortunately i think most of the charm involved is this low rent morgan freeman dude babbling all the time, so the jury is still out. i do really really like the way it looks though.

PROVEN BY BOOZE SCIENCE, Wednesday, 21 December 2011 18:50 (twelve years ago) link

the soundtrack is pretty too. and the mechanics are fun.

Mordy, Wednesday, 21 December 2011 19:40 (twelve years ago) link

i didn't mind the narrator at all (didn't love it as much as some of the reviewers). i imagine if you hate it tho, it'll be really hard to enjoy the game

Arkham City half-off today, which I would jump on, but I'm going to wait for the last-day sale.

Introversion Pack Sale (Darwinia, DEFCON, Multiwinia, Uplink) for ~$5. Should I get it?

Mordy, Thursday, 22 December 2011 20:52 (twelve years ago) link

Yesterday's UMvC3 patch removes Phoenix Wright's invincible assists, which were the only thing he had going for him before. WHY? Also makes Hulk a little worse. Wesker and Zero unchanged.

sandbanana, Friday, 23 December 2011 01:58 (twelve years ago) link

Darwinia's worth $5, sure.

Also, Kairosoft has at least 1 new game out for iOS/Android. Venture Town is a lot like Oh Edo Town, but with far more jobs.

Also, you can finally sell research points.

aw, my sister got me arkham city for xmas. good sis.

playing blur and man this game (much like split/second) was totally slept on, people into arcady burnout type racers really need to play both of them

I see this is cheap on Steam for uh the next hour ($5? guessing at US price from UK one)

wondering whether to get Limbo on its own or get the "Super Indie bundle" (LIMBO, Fractal: Make Blooms Not War, Hacker Evolution, Gemini Rue, Revenge of the Titans, Solar 2, Dungeons of Dredmor, Bunch of Heroes, Lightfish, Cave Story+)

haven't heard of anything in the other indie bundle. also kind of sitting on my hands trying not to buy e.g. the Telltale bundle as this christmas has been way too expensive

brony island baby (case spudette), Friday, 23 December 2011 21:00 (twelve years ago) link

i've been playing Cave Story+ and it's fun, tho not great (and kinda furry, too). Limbo is amazing tho, and should be gotten one way or another. I've heard good things about Fractal, and haven't heard of any of the other games on that list

Mordy, Friday, 23 December 2011 21:03 (twelve years ago) link

the whole telltale package is too expensive, but can any of you recommend the best games from it? maybe i'd be a few...

Mordy, Friday, 23 December 2011 21:08 (twelve years ago) link

I mainly just want to catch up on the Sam & Max series, as I loved the original game way back when but have managed not to play any of the past 6 years' worth. So, no idea if they're any good.

(also I enjoyed the first Puzzle Agent and the first Hector game but they're both probably kind of an acquired taste, I think? I mean if you miss 90s point+click graphical adventures but always wished they were ruder and more British then Hector is yr game, but...)

brony island baby (case spudette), Friday, 23 December 2011 22:12 (twelve years ago) link

sam & max season 2 is my fave. the sam & max pack is a better deal though. i have not played jurassic park, w&g, and i only played one bone episode.

puzzle agent is a short and easy layton clone but the first one has a great moment in it. hector is a bad knockoff of the ben & dan games.

I quite like Dungeons of Dredmor - if you like roguelike games it's pretty decent.

adventures in the zonules of zinn (mrfusion), Saturday, 24 December 2011 02:18 (twelve years ago) link

dredmor's visual design really puts me off. also it being called 'dredmor'.

the indie bundle at http://www.humblebundle.com/ has cave story + as well. also super meat boy and gratuitous space battles. and some other things.

i am tempted by frozen synapse on 75% on steam rn BUT having just wasted two hours on the demo without managing to complete a mission i am less certain that is a good idea

beat Jamestown tnite. STG w/ a sci-fi colonial America theme. lots of fun!

Mordy, Monday, 26 December 2011 02:32 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i really dig Jamestown but my only gripe is that i'm used to the super fast ship control of all those bullet hell games

Armin Tamzarian (ok), Monday, 26 December 2011 06:12 (twelve years ago) link

Rocksmith pwning right now, as the blisters/calluses on my fingers attest. (Then again, I could say the same thing when I first got my guitar, so we'll see about the long-term commitment.) Was stuck on "In Bloom" yesterday and today, but I guess my Xmas present was getting past Nirvana.

Ryan LZA (Leee), Monday, 26 December 2011 06:25 (twelve years ago) link

anyone have experience w/ beat hazard?

Mordy, Monday, 26 December 2011 18:53 (twelve years ago) link

Can't get into Jamestown - a nice concept, but the wide screen and sparse distribution of bullets makes it less than tight enough. Especially when I recently got Mushihime-sama on the ios and it's more or less the perfect schmup: Simple and to the point, filled with an amazing amount of bullets in Ultra difficulty mode.

abcfsk, Monday, 26 December 2011 21:12 (twelve years ago) link

bullet hell shmups are basically too hardcore for me. i've liked the genre ever since i played 1943 as a kid on the arcade in my dentist's office, and Jamestown works bc it's not too hard (the settings basically let you ramp up until you hit your skill ceiling), but i've seen ppl -- esp i used to see this in my college library all the time -- play these STG's where the whole screen is brightly colored bullets and it seems like less of a game and more of memorizing exactly where the one non-dangerous space is going to move on the screen.

Mordy, Monday, 26 December 2011 21:28 (twelve years ago) link

started skyward sword today, loving it

I got a lot of other stuff going on in my life that sort of shapes my video game time (i.e. new dad, busy year ahead that requires lots of focused work right now) but I just couldn't really get that into Red Dead Redemption once I finally got around to it - which was weird to me because I loved Revolver (and Gun for that matter, I'll play anything western-themed) but Redemption just felt...boring? idk maybe I didn't stick with it long enuf
