Haha - now I'm looking at the other headlines for hidden gags

Wolves have conceded at least 2 goals in 11 out of 16 matches. blah blah it's difficult to score in the Prem blah blah strikers overpriced blah blah if your cunt of a manager who allegedly made a living as a centre back can't organise your defence to keep the occasional clean sheet then you're fucked whether you're playing England's best right back or Pele or Dixie Motherfucking Dean up front cos everybody knows the secret to finishing 12th on the reg is to be DIFFICULT TO FUCKING SCORE AGAINST YOU WANKERS

also scott dann rip, clearly there was some sort of occult pact between them and mcleish which has now been broken

if Johnson was ShawXing dudes on the reg it wd at least be an improvement on his performance since August

still, rather be relegated than play like a McLeish team, never forget

On 6 January 2011, it was announced that Brown would become the new manager of Preston North End,[26] replacing the sacked Darren Ferguson.[27] In his first season at Preston, he was unable to save the club from relegation. He stated that "I nearly broke down in front of the supporters. I hold myself responsible for relegation, end of story" however "Next season we will hit the ground running – one thing is for sure, we’ll be able to run".[28]

"A big factor in attracting me was manager Steve Bruce," Turner told Sunderland's website. "He has a real pedigree."

"Michael is one of the country's premier central defenders and I have had my eye on him for a while," added Bruce.

"I've been looking to add size and strength to the back line and Michael fits the bill perfectly in that respect, as well as being an excellent technical footballer.

can't argue with Bruce's pedigree in dumping one go-nowhere club for the next one that offered him 3 quid a week more

Seed Production Scientist cum Head (Julie Lagger), Tuesday, 20 December 2011 00:38 (twelve years ago) link

i think that was his first proper sacking? also mcleish has never been properly and summarily sacked, was a sort of benitez 'leave at the end of the season' ish

I wouldn't say Bruce was a *bad* manager - he was perfectly good in a limited sort of way (i.e. avoiding relegation with middling clubs). I thought the reason he was disliked was because of his lack of loyalty at the start of his managerial career.

The Artist Formerly Known As Teh HoBB, Tuesday, 20 December 2011 07:55 (twelve years ago) link

The reason I dislike him is because his teams are painfully shit to watch. They just seem like futile creations with no agenda. Most other clubs in the Premiership during his time have had a tactical ~way~ whether they are good or not, but Bruce teams have always been a hodge-podge of players just told to go out there and exist. Has he ever shown tactical nous? Like if you look at his signings they have always been 'well i need a centre forward' 'what type of centre forward?' 'who cares? just see who is available'.

It is the same thing of why people like Coyle more than they did Megson, at least Coyle's team play a tactic and play as a team, whether successful or not.

big popppa hoy, Tuesday, 20 December 2011 08:08 (twelve years ago) link

I hate him for his disloyalty coupled with no problem ever finding a new sap to take him on, plus his toadying to Ferguson. Keano otm.

But mostly because he's just a nothing, no style, no interesting quirks, no particular reason to wish him or his teams well. You've got to hate someone, and absent a pantomime villain guys like Bruce are as useful for that as anyone.

his whinging, dear christ the whinging.

He buys blanks that might be players but he can't whittle for shit

Suarez banned for eight games for being a racist!

ShariVari, Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:05 (twelve years ago) link

....

good?

delonge and winding refn (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:07 (twelve years ago) link

Of course. He pretty much admitted it. It's nice to see a serious punishment attached.

ShariVari, Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:08 (twelve years ago) link

Eight match ban apparently makes you a trending topic on twitter. I thought he'd died or something.

lebateauivre, Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:13 (twelve years ago) link

course

john terry denying it will mean that he gets a harsher punishment, right?

right?

delonge and winding refn (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:14 (twelve years ago) link

Seven match ban last season, eight this. Wonder what he's gonna do to beat his record next year

Number None, Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:15 (twelve years ago) link

I wish we had details of the evidence. I'll admit to being a bit surprised. Can't argue with it, but that length of ban is very rare, no?

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:18 (twelve years ago) link

Ya IK, that's how I feel. He must have outright admitted it?

lebateauivre, Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:19 (twelve years ago) link

He admitted saying it (whatever it was) but the way it was reported as hingeing on semantics and cultural connotations made me think it was going to be a 'slightly guilty', if that.

It doesn't leave much wriggle room on Terry, anyway.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:21 (twelve years ago) link

def. feel vindicated making that 'who will have a more lol liverpool career' poll in february now, even if ronan was annoyed by the audacity of thinking suarez and carroll could be lol

big popppa hoy, Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:22 (twelve years ago) link

The statement said they are going to provide reasons for the verdict "in due course"

Number None, Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:22 (twelve years ago) link

This isn't very lol tbh.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:23 (twelve years ago) link

I don't think Suarez' defense could've been "cultural differences" tbh. He's playing in England.

"It doesn't leave much wriggle room on Terry, anyway."

This warms my heart tbh

lebateauivre, Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:23 (twelve years ago) link

I'm not loling but he's a deeply unpleasant character and i'm not losing any sleep over this

Number None, Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:24 (twelve years ago) link

i'm telling you, terry's denial will be a major factor in nothing happening there

suarez admitted to using 'negro' iirc? wasn't that common knowledge?

delonge and winding refn (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:24 (twelve years ago) link

So clue me in, can Suarez now face criminal prosecution too?

lebateauivre, Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:26 (twelve years ago) link

very unlikely that evra pushes for that, am not sure if anyone else can do so

delonge and winding refn (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:27 (twelve years ago) link

Yes xp, but if he was speaking Spanish then it'd be different. I don't know what language he was speaking.

He could theoretically be prosecuted, but the verdict reads quite weakly so I wouldn't expect that to be a realistic outcome.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:28 (twelve years ago) link

It's not Evra's call, it's for the police & CPS. But they need a complaint first and so far as I am aware there hasn't been one (unlike Terry)

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:29 (twelve years ago) link

john terry was speaking english, i'm not sure that's relevant tbph IK

delonge and winding refn (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:30 (twelve years ago) link

oh that's a beaut

delonge and winding refn (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:30 (twelve years ago) link

Kean must stay.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 20 December 2011 20:30 (twelve years ago) link

Think it was supposed to have been 'negrito', maybe he argued that the diminutive form was especially affectionate/harmless? At least in an S. American context.
