In terms of anal, was he talking about dicking an ass or getting his ass dicked? The answer is lobster, regardless.

another suggestbanite (rusty flathead screwdriver), Friday, 16 December 2011 11:37 (twelve years ago) link

i think i will probably have to vote champagne but

Angles that bitch (Julie Lagger), Friday, 16 December 2011 11:38 (twelve years ago) link

champagne and lobster picnics. on hampstead heath after dark.

ledge, Friday, 16 December 2011 11:39 (twelve years ago) link

still torn between 3 of these

Extreme Lifestyle, Friday, 16 December 2011 11:58 (twelve years ago) link

100 years ago lobster was considered "filler" seafood, just barely fit for human consumption

schalke nult fear (nakhchivan), Friday, 16 December 2011 13:32 (twelve years ago) link

haha cad OTM but still, it's interesting to know

oysters were also very cheap, you could buy them from sidewalk vendors for about 3 cents an oyster

his venerable escutcheon, Friday, 16 December 2011 13:34 (twelve years ago) link

time was you could kick an oyster shell in the street

schalke nult fear (nakhchivan), Friday, 16 December 2011 13:35 (twelve years ago) link

Don't know who this Hitchens guy is, but I guess he's straight?

Tuomas, Friday, 16 December 2011 13:42 (twelve years ago) link

He's right about everything except lobster, and even then he's right too.

Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 16 December 2011 13:43 (twelve years ago) link

deep down we're all a little bit straight, Tuomas

Extreme Lifestyle, Friday, 16 December 2011 13:47 (twelve years ago) link

Heteroflexible, with political leanings, it seems?

what the hell are you doing to that lobster

OH NOES, Friday, 16 December 2011 15:14 (twelve years ago) link

In ascending order:

anal sex
champagne
lobster
picnics

Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 16 December 2011 15:15 (twelve years ago) link

Or with that lobster (xp)

Derek Pringles (Deep in the Tony Hart land), Friday, 16 December 2011 15:16 (twelve years ago) link

picnics is the only one of these i'd consider seriously overrated

Angles that bitch (Julie Lagger), Friday, 16 December 2011 15:16 (twelve years ago) link

Yes, picnics are totally shite

Derek Pringles (Deep in the Tony Hart land), Friday, 16 December 2011 15:18 (twelve years ago) link

I haven't consciously attended a picnic. A checkered tablecloth? In the woods? Chicken salad? So declassé.

Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 16 December 2011 15:18 (twelve years ago) link

yeah man sitting outside and eating food how terrible to combine two such horrible things, why bother when you could just be inside being unkind

Cooper Chucklebutt, Friday, 16 December 2011 15:19 (twelve years ago) link

it's not the accoutrements i'm thinking of, it's the bugs

Angles that bitch (Julie Lagger), Friday, 16 December 2011 15:19 (twelve years ago) link

And the weather

Derek Pringles (Deep in the Tony Hart land), Friday, 16 December 2011 15:20 (twelve years ago) link

eating outside can be classic but picnics and hampers and rose coloured mittens is just an open invitation to every wasp in the a 10-miles radius

Angles that bitch (Julie Lagger), Friday, 16 December 2011 15:20 (twelve years ago) link

Wind usually starts whipping up before the first sandwich has even been unwrapped

Derek Pringles (Deep in the Tony Hart land), Friday, 16 December 2011 15:21 (twelve years ago) link

I am pro-picnic if someone else is bringing the food and cleaning up, or if it's at Tanglewood where about 85% of the "food" ends up being bottles of wine and you're listening to a great orchestra play awesome live music.

OH NOES, Friday, 16 December 2011 15:22 (twelve years ago) link

Angles that bitch (Julie Lagger), Friday, 16 December 2011 15:23 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i mean sure but you have to like picnics

Cooper Chucklebutt, Friday, 16 December 2011 15:25 (twelve years ago) link

srsly picnics is the least challopy of the 4

Angles that bitch (Julie Lagger), Friday, 16 December 2011 15:28 (twelve years ago) link

all of these things are prob p appropriately rated, but what biting wit that guy!

Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 16 December 2011 15:29 (twelve years ago) link

Cooper Chucklebutt, Friday, 16 December 2011 15:30 (twelve years ago) link

ledge, Friday, 16 December 2011 15:31 (twelve years ago) link

picnics are prob not worth the effort but the rest of these are just fine.

slandblox goole, Friday, 16 December 2011 15:34 (twelve years ago) link

I'm willing to go on a picnic with chickenhawk if he brings the lobster but keeps the buggery at home in his closet.

Cooper Chucklebutt, Saturday, 17 December 2011 00:41 (twelve years ago) link

Hitchens obv had a restrictive definition of what constitutes a picnic. For me it is eating any meal outdoors without a waiter/waitress.

1) Outdoors is a nice place.
2) Eating is pleasant.
3) No tipping required.

Sounds like a little piece of paradise to me.

Aimless, Saturday, 17 December 2011 00:46 (twelve years ago) link

i know right, bring some lobster and champagne even

Cooper Chucklebutt, Saturday, 17 December 2011 00:47 (twelve years ago) link

champagne is awesome also jho otm about chris hitchens. hero to most a few but he never meant shit to me.

horseshoe, Saturday, 17 December 2011 00:52 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i appreciate ppl who can write coherently and drink fabulously but i can generally get that on ilx without the warmongering, etc.

i guess the outpouring of whatever seems slightly less weird to me than that for steve jobs, tho.

mookieproof, Saturday, 17 December 2011 01:00 (twelve years ago) link

people's remembrances of him have been moving. it is jerky of me to say idgi at this particular moment, i know. i don't get the great stylist thing either, tbh; the stuff i've read by him seemed overwritten.

moonbop, Saturday, 17 December 2011 01:08 (twelve years ago) link

i over-ated at a picnic once. way too much potato salad.

los krampusinos! (pomplamau5), Saturday, 17 December 2011 01:12 (twelve years ago) link

Champagne is overrated if you're living in North America, but not so in France. It's far cheaper, and the cult around it is subdued... there, I'd say it's rated correctly. With oysters, it's divine. For a man such as Hitchens, who could travel to France, and bring with him home a 25 E bottle of Lermandier-Bernier, and share it with friends on a holiday? I would've urged Hitch to reconsider.

oPal, Saturday, 17 December 2011 01:21 (twelve years ago) link

Anal sex between homosexual men is rated exactly correctly. Within the boundaries of a heterosexual relationship, it has been quite underestimated and underrated, so I've been told

oPal, Saturday, 17 December 2011 01:22 (twelve years ago) link

Picnicking with children is overrated, but its close cousins "al fresco" and "street food on a park bench" seem to acquit it?

oPal, Saturday, 17 December 2011 01:23 (twelve years ago) link

In contrast, a lobster meal requires the diner to forcibly tear apart the cruelly executed carcass of an exoskeletous rat, gingerly extracting a single mouthful of meat while avoiding cloaca, before sucking at its feelers in desperation.

oPal, Saturday, 17 December 2011 01:26 (twelve years ago) link

Anal sex the clear loser there

oPal, Saturday, 17 December 2011 01:34 (twelve years ago) link

A: Fave rave.

I interpret this as meaning 12 people think picnics are the best of the options presented. Which is how I voted.
