i think jeff garcia was wearing lip gloss in that promo bite about how fun football is when you're playing with a group of talented guys.

Jimmy Kimmel actually made me laugh with his Christmas presents segment. For Peyton: a t-shirt that says "Mom & Dad Love Me Most." For Eli: a t-shirt that says "That's Probably True."

So the Eagles are this week's NFC team. That means they'll stink out the place next Sunday. The NFC is sad. Maybe the NFL should seed teams this year to cut down on the NFC crap factor.

So who wants a Coughlin or Mora dead pool?

Ice Ice Cream Baby (The Dirty Vicar), Tuesday, 26 December 2006 16:40 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm taking Coughlin, 1st day of Giants post-season. They'll wait a day or two for Mora.

Allyzay heard you got beat up in a club. (Allyzay Eisenschefter), Tuesday, 26 December 2006 16:47 (seventeen years ago) link

That sounds right. I predict Eli will be the only Giant to stick up for Coughlin after the ax.

Joe Isuzu's Petals (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 26 December 2006 17:29 (seventeen years ago) link

If he says anything; he's the only one on the team who hasn't had a public blowout with the dude. The rest of them will hold a ticker tape parade.

Yes, definitely start with the NFC crap factor, the Browns, Texans, Raiders and Bills are perfect examples of parity at work in 2006.

TOM. BOT. (trm), Tuesday, 26 December 2006 18:25 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh well there's no need to pick on the Bills, they are just as good as the Giants are.

Or addendum if you lost to any of these teams you are dis-qualified from the playoff.

The greatest Christmas present this year was not being able to watch the Browns/Bucs game.

Ken Dorsey will be starting Sunday against the Texans. New Years Eve, so much to answer for.

remind me to stay away from downtown or the loop on nye, i figure the bears/packers game should end around 10:30/11:00 pm leaving just enough time for 60,000 drunk football fans to go tearing out of soldier field looking for the nearest bar to ring in the new year.

People who are suddenly about Mangini as coach of year kind of worry me in that they all seem to have pretty short memories that they've already forgot about Sean Payton.

Well I'm not sure exactly how the Jets are 9-6 in the AFC without a running game (or a quarterback who can throw past ten yards).

Michael (Oakland Mike), Wednesday, 27 December 2006 16:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Is that a joke?

Allyzay heard you got beat up in a club. (Allyzay Eisenschefter), Wednesday, 27 December 2006 16:56 (seventeen years ago) link

No, the Jets really don't have a running game.

David RER (Frank Fiore), Wednesday, 27 December 2006 16:58 (seventeen years ago) link

have you seen their schedule? the only team of any note that they beat was the pats (i'm not counting the billy volek-led titans in the first game of the year as a team of note).

otto midnight, that 'tofu makes you gay' ding dong (otto midnight), Wednesday, 27 December 2006 16:59 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, braaaaaaaavo, Daver, braaaaaaavo.

Dude's I been repping for the Jets as secret East stealers but a 9-6 record with an OKAYISH team in a pretty middling conference/division is not exactly something to start the parades over, in other words, otto OTM. Also Daver, really, I mean that is true (though pretending Pennington sucks is a bit of a stretch).

You people are fucking nuts. Mangini took a middling team that lost a couple extra games last year due to injury and made...A MIDDLING TEAM. Payton took a terrible team and made a contender. I really don't see where stating "Mangina: Not As Good" is somehow a controversial statement, but y'all can keep up with your spat with hstencil re: "Saints: Fake Team".

Allyzay heard you got beat up in a club. (Allyzay Eisenschefter), Wednesday, 27 December 2006 17:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Though really front-runnerism re: changing BEST WHATEVER OF THE YEAR every couple games is pretty irritating but not as irritating as this one dude I saw on tv who would not shut up about making Belichick coach of the year. WTF??

Allyzay heard you got beat up in a club. (Allyzay Eisenschefter), Wednesday, 27 December 2006 17:12 (seventeen years ago) link

After the playing the Lions and Browns back to back that bye week sure came in the nick of time.

Anyway, I'm rooting for the Jets because everybody else in the AFC makes me sick. The Titians are my backup team but their uniform makes me want to stick hot kittens into my eyes.

clevo lk (clevo lk), Wednesday, 27 December 2006 17:17 (seventeen years ago) link

Payton took a terrible team and made a contender.

Well, Mickey Loomis is certainly the GM of the year if it isn't AJ Smith, but EVERYBODY thought the Saints would be at least a 7-9 team this year with the addition of Brees and a healthy Deuce + Bush. On the contrary, most people thought the Jets would be among the very worst teams in football.

Michael (Oakland Mike), Wednesday, 27 December 2006 17:18 (seventeen years ago) link

Which is to say:

1) you can't pick who you play (tho shitting the bed the previous year guarantees a cupcakey schedule)
2) who did the Saints beat (besides early season Philly, and the to-that-point rolling Cowboys)? - the only AFC team they won against was CLEVELAND (sorry lk), the Portisless Redskins took 'em @ home, Tampa Bay sucks, those Hotlanta wins are kinda tarnished, &c.

Meaning that I'm all for Sean Payton as COY (plz kick the crap out of the Bears) (sry otto), but SuperMangina In A Bottle had a lot less to work with than Payton did - give a hairless monkey like Haslett Brees & Bush & Colston & an actual home field, and he could probably win at least 9 games.

That, coupled w/ the fact that he started in the NFL as a BALL BOY at AGE TWENTY THREE, puts him over my top. Even if the Jets are a lock to get bounced in the 1st round. If they make the playoffs.

David RER (Frank Fiore), Wednesday, 27 December 2006 17:19 (seventeen years ago) link

fuck a duck x-post smorgasborg

David RER (Frank Fiore), Wednesday, 27 December 2006 17:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Actually, looking at the schedules, I will change my mind and say Payton!
