I have managed to avoid finding out so much as what the Wire is even ABOUT/who it STARS. All I know is that it is on HBO and that everyone I know loves it.

I think The Wire is like Homicide or something. No idea who's in it.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 21 December 2006 20:49 (seventeen years ago) link

My GF and I drove by two seperate location-shootings-in-process in the past week!

AND we got to see the polar-bear cages live-and-in person. we resisted the urge to hop a fence and get frisky in one in some hot kate-sawyer role play action.

Grady, our man on the scene! That is cuet.

grady, what did the locations look like?

jergins (jergins), Thursday, 21 December 2006 21:20 (seventeen years ago) link

VERY MINOR POSSIBLE SPOILERS:

one was obv a flaskback. total-carnage-everywhere-car-accident in front of a gas station inbetween a highway overpass and a mall. possibly spotted Emilie de Ravin.

the other was a little cove really near a place called blow hole. this is possibly the same place where desmond confronting inman was filmed. probably not.

end minor-possible spoilers.

a guy we hire from time to time has been doing audio work on the show lately. i'll be working with him on NYE. i'll try and remember to ask him if he's got any more goods.

whooops..... that was suposed to have like twenty line breaks.... sorry.

grady (grady), Thursday, 21 December 2006 21:40 (seventeen years ago) link

LOL flaskback, is it about Jack's dad?

Actually if Emilie de Ravin was on set it might be (because that whole implied maybe Christian Shephard is also her daddy thing in s2).

The Lost drinking/general fun time game, with rules that change everytime I play it. Don't make fun of me.

Drink:

1. When there's a flashback, or it flashes back to the present
---1A - If you can predict that a flashback is coming just before it happens, you can give out 2 drinks. For example, if there is a whooshing noise and Hurley is just kind of staring off into space, that's a good time to yell out "Flashback!"

2. When there's strong tension between Jack and Locke.

3. When the Extras appear in a scene (obviously).

4. When Sawyer lays on his action movie star voice really thick.

5. When the Windows 98 screensaver-esque Lost logo pops up against the black background. Also, at this time you must look at the person next to you and whisper "Lost!"

6. When Hurley says Dude, or anything else that seems stereotypically Hurley.

7. When a main character dies, you must drink as much as you can stand, and mutter "oh shit...oh shit" to yourself a whole lot.

8. Whenever the polar bear or evil smoke appears.

There are more, which I'm sure you're DYING to read, but it's been a while.

Good interview with Damon Lindelof...

http://www.wizarduniverse.com/television/lost/002870368.cfm

Events in the finale last year catastrophically screwed them all in a way that they don’t really appreciate yet.

Thanks. There's a bunch of interesting stuff in there. he does need to stop saying "über-goal" though.

i swear to god i saw the dharma initiative logo with an ipod in the middle of it on CNN today. "the situation room," on the bank of monitors they have behind them. anyone else see it or know what the hell it was about?

the table is the table (trees), Friday, 29 December 2006 00:45 (seventeen years ago) link

Good interview with Damon Lindelof...

I think we tend to use the monster when it relates directly to informing character, as opposed to just an arbitrary plot device that can move the trees around and make scary noises.

haha, really? because it seems more like the latter these days. also, gotta love painting the death of eko as a sort of simpsons-writers-esque MESSAGE TO THE FANS.

OH FUCK YES

the people's prince (jergins), Monday, 12 February 2007 19:33 (seventeen years ago) link

I just read that interview with DL upthread:

There have been sort of vague questions as to how much story we have or what the plan is, and I think that the only thing that I’ve ever said on the record is that if we were in a position to actually end the show on our own terms, that it would probably be at the end of four years. That would be the ultimate nexus point for the show. But unfortunately, it’s completely moot whether it’s four years or five years or seven years, because I don’t own the show and [co-creator and executive producer] J.J. [Abrams] doesn’t own the show and [executive producer] Carlton [Cuse] doesn’t own the show - Touchstone and ABC own the show. And as long as it’s a show that is popular and that people are watching, they’ll never let us end it, which is sad and depressing.

I never knew this was how things in TV work. I was actually really hoping for them to end it at season 4/5 because I can totally see myself losing interest after the 4th year or so, if there are too many things unanswered.

And at the rate they're going, it's gonna be really tough to deal with the timeline - Losties are still in 2004 and we're in 2007 already.

Stuck in ILX Limbo (Roz), Monday, 12 February 2007 19:35 (seventeen years ago) link

I kind of hope after 4 or 5 years they have a finale that, while maybe not the END of the show is so obviously "GUYS STOP WATCHING NOW WE ARE JUST DOING IT BECAUSE THEY MAKE US FROM THIS POINT ONWARD" it will practically be an ending.

I want the series finale to resolve almost everything but leave them on-island, so they can save the getting-off-the-island for a BIG SCREEN MOVIE EVENT. Terry O'Quinn's bald-ass head, LARGER THAN LIEF.

awesome!

Rick Gibralter (grady), Monday, 12 February 2007 23:07 (seventeen years ago) link

Time flux is necessary addition to the show's mysteries probably because they want Malcolm David-Kelley to play Walt again in season 4 but also want it to make some kind of sense that he's now an adult-sized teenager (as opposed to 10 yrs old). Luckily it is also kind of interesting.

So I looked up the domain registration for http://www.mittelosbioscience.org

And it's actually registered to Richard Alpert, and he gives a Portland, OR registration address, but a fake phone number. ARG maybe starting up again?

Brig. Chop Them Up (scarymonster), Monday, 12 February 2007 23:15 (seventeen years ago) link

Rousseau has never mentioned what year it was when she crashed, I just realized. All we have there as far as defining time data is the sixteen years the message has been repeating - on the island.

xpost I read on thefuselage.com that that is supposedly a fan-site, but it sure is fucking fancy-looking to have been slapped together by LOST fans.
