I've narrowed it down to like a dozen.

jaymc, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:17 (twelve years ago) link

I hate music.

Sandbox Jesse, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:18 (twelve years ago) link

My second choice was also released in 2010.

2011: the year the music died.

I'm going to put all Pit Bull songs.

thejenny, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:19 (twelve years ago) link

As usual, I am overthinking this. Should I focus on songs that you guys probably have not heard?

jaymc, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:22 (twelve years ago) link

I'll see what I can do but, yeah, I fear all my choices would be boring, like PJ Harvey.

Listening to the cosmic dead as we speak and enjoying it.

well in (advance johnson), Monday, 12 December 2011 17:22 (twelve years ago) link

i personally am focusing on the maybe less-heard, more underrated songs i liked (so i look cooler) but you should do what you want

n/a, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:23 (twelve years ago) link

Hahaha, oh shit, two of my songs are eliminated. Well, only one was an exact repeat, but I feel like it would be silly to just throw on another track from the same album.

I left my login in El Sandboxo, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:24 (twelve years ago) link

that psychic paramount album is amazing

well in (advance johnson), Monday, 12 December 2011 17:26 (twelve years ago) link

I have been really lame wrt new music this year but I think I can remember up some favorites.

tumblr whineys (Cuauhtemoc Blanco), Monday, 12 December 2011 17:26 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah I was going to throw up another Psychic Paramount track and THE SAME EXACT Cosmic Dead track.

I left my login in El Sandboxo, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:27 (twelve years ago) link

DONE
i left psychic paramount for nick because he was the one who told me to listen to it!!

Should I focus on songs that you guys probably have not heard?
this is what i did

league of women voters, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:27 (twelve years ago) link

HAHA sorry jvc
that song rules though amirite

league of women voters, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:27 (twelve years ago) link

you are very rite, glad to see someone else liking it tbh

Are we okay with live stuff that was just released this year?

I left my login in El Sandboxo, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:29 (twelve years ago) link

sorry dudes. having trouble deciding on a third song.

n/a, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:31 (twelve years ago) link

Blargh, I am already regretting the one song I put up. Can I get like 10 songs?

jaymc, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:31 (twelve years ago) link

this doesn't have to be done today
i decided hastily, as i do with virtually every task of this nature -- just give us three songs you liked and you think we will like from 2011

if we want a round 2, we can do a round 2!!

league of women voters, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:33 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, I'm going to have to add mine tonight. Can't find YouTube links for a couple of mine and I'm having trouble accessing my Spotify.

I left my login in El Sandboxo, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:36 (twelve years ago) link

OK, I included Yuck b/c it's probably my #1 song of the year, even though probably everyone that would like it has already heard it.

jaymc, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:36 (twelve years ago) link

OK I am happy with my choices for now.

tumblr whineys (Cuauhtemoc Blanco), Monday, 12 December 2011 17:40 (twelve years ago) link

it's funny to see the spreadsheet update while looking at it,

jmc I accidentally erased one of yr entries for Yuck but I think I fixed it correctly

tumblr whineys (Cuauhtemoc Blanco), Monday, 12 December 2011 17:42 (twelve years ago) link

Oh yeah, it looks fine.

jaymc, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:44 (twelve years ago) link

other stuff i was thinking about: liturgy, action bronson. destroyer "kaputt" is probably my album of the year. worried i'm forgetting stuff because we lost some albums when our old hard drive died. sarah's going to contribute too btw.

n/a, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:46 (twelve years ago) link

don't think i've heard "the laziest river" though!

n/a, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:47 (twelve years ago) link

u guys srsly that youth lagoon album... it's one of those that makes me embarrassed to like it as much as I do

tumblr whineys (Cuauhtemoc Blanco), Monday, 12 December 2011 17:47 (twelve years ago) link

I think my top albums are Destroyer, Toro y Moi, and Bon Iver.

jaymc, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:50 (twelve years ago) link

Which are all plundering '80s soft rock in various ways.

jaymc, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:50 (twelve years ago) link

i am not listening to bon iver ever again if i can help it

league of women voters, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:53 (twelve years ago) link

i don't know if i've ever heard any of his stuff; i think i just assumed i wouldn't like it but maybe i was wrong

n/a, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:55 (twelve years ago) link

i made extra columns for listener comments and complaining

league of women voters, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:57 (twelve years ago) link

the only bon iver song I know is "skinny love" and they once played it while I was browsing in a bookstore and I will admit to being moved by it.

well in (advance johnson), Monday, 12 December 2011 17:57 (twelve years ago) link

i look forward to listening to these while i am at the office today

league of women voters, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:58 (twelve years ago) link

ha ha our VP just walked through the library while i was listening to the laziest river and she probably thought i was jamming out to smooth jazz

n/a, Monday, 12 December 2011 18:00 (twelve years ago) link

Ha. I was pretty indifferent to the first Bon Iver album, but I kind of love the new one. And I also take some glee in the fact that a lot of dudes who were down with Vernon's lo-fi strummy heartsick cabin songs can't wrap their heads around the adult-contemporary signifiers.

jaymc, Monday, 12 December 2011 18:00 (twelve years ago) link

Is there a setting I need to change on my end? Its only letting me view, not add anything.

I left my login in El Sandboxo, Monday, 12 December 2011 18:01 (twelve years ago) link

i don't know - i've definitely got you enabled to edit

n/a, Monday, 12 December 2011 18:02 (twelve years ago) link

Works fine now, maybe I just needed to close and reopen it.

I left my login in El Sandboxo, Monday, 12 December 2011 18:02 (twelve years ago) link

I'll think of a third song later. But for now I'm listening and enjoying!

well in (advance johnson), Monday, 12 December 2011 18:04 (twelve years ago) link

i don't think my comments column is going to work because you will have to identify yourself after each comment, which could be a PITA
well anyway, this came together nicely
good job everyone

league of women voters, Monday, 12 December 2011 18:06 (twelve years ago) link

Updated my Falloch, realized I linked to the wrong track.

I left my login in El Sandboxo, Monday, 12 December 2011 18:16 (twelve years ago) link

Amanda, have you heard much Lindstrom?

jaymc, Monday, 12 December 2011 18:25 (twelve years ago) link

Nope. Should I?

league of women voters, Monday, 12 December 2011 18:47 (twelve years ago) link

Okay, I uploaded my three tracks. Was originally going to put up one of the Hebden/Reid/Gustafsson live tracks, but couldn't narrow it down to which one.

I left my login in El Sandboxo, Monday, 12 December 2011 18:48 (twelve years ago) link

damn that album is SO GOOD
i was gonna put one on there too -- lyman place (?) is the only one that's < 10 min

league of women voters, Monday, 12 December 2011 18:50 (twelve years ago) link

xxp I think you might like some of his stuff, maybe? Norwegian "space-disco." Cosmic pulses. Etc. Where You Go I Go Too is the one that people usually enthuse over -- it's probably his most focused work -- but I actually prefer his most recent collab with Prins Thomas, titled II.

Here is a track:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DpAW4RWI18

(Fun fact: I sampled the bass line for my cover of Usher's "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love.")

jaymc, Monday, 12 December 2011 18:54 (twelve years ago) link

That's a great album, I really love Lindstrom, particularly both albums with Prins Thomas.

my connection at work is slow (wonder if people are watching jersey shore in the library again? hm?) so i have had trouble listening to these songs very efficiently

argh

league of women voters, Monday, 12 December 2011 20:57 (twelve years ago) link

ok i have now officially jammed many of these jams. thanks for submitting!

also i would like to encourage anyone to participate even if you think your choices are not partic exciting or obscure or whatever you think they should be but aren't. if nothing else it's a funny little archive.

league of women voters, Monday, 12 December 2011 21:53 (twelve years ago) link

which means it needs some pitbull

league of women voters, Monday, 12 December 2011 21:53 (twelve years ago) link

I feel confident that I can find something a little more interesting than Pitbull. I just need to check out the playcounts on iTunes. A year is a long time to remember something.

wore glasses and said things (thejenny), Monday, 12 December 2011 23:44 (twelve years ago) link
