fuck's sake. watching highlights, we should have had damn near double figure penalties.
Unbelievable display from Foy- it's not bias, he just didn't give two fucks about enforcing the rules and that suited the team of yob cunts.

Whether he dived or not, there were plenty of legitimately blown calls in that game. Rough to watch as a neutral; can't imagine if one had an interest in either side.

I avoided the sandbox soccer thread last week, after our (Norwich's) humbling by Man City, but after this weekend I thought I'd pop my head in.
Pretty pleased with that result, even if the referee was appalling (1 blatant handball by Holt, 3 by various Newcastle players - including one in the box and one right on the edge of the box, and a pretty shady red card for Newcastle).
Our next two fixtures look ok too (away to Everton and Wolves, but then home to Tottenham, who I fully expect to destroy us).
Haven't had a chance to watch MOTD yet, so don't have an opinion on the other games yet. Just thought, as the token Norwich fan, I should pop in.

rah!
I dunno how i expect us to react to this tbh, but if you play the two big lads up front you'll get some joy.

likely outcome of foy's perf:
FA charge for towel jersey -note that ref refused to deal with timewasting during the match
FA charge for Harry Redknapp for criticising Foy
Three points for execrable Stoke, none for loveable Spurs
Lols at loveable Spurs fans

should we start a sandbox thread on the categories of fouls that justify your falling over or otherwise?
imo, if someone kicks you on the shin while you're trying to play football, fuck em. Stoke get away with enough.

There doesn't need to be contact for a foul to be comitted. A free kick/penalty is awarded if a player "trips or attempts to trip an opponent". Foy obviously felt that Whelan either tripped or attempted to trip Modric and that it wasn't a genuine attempt to win the ball.

Oh he's talented alright. Has only played seven games so far, he wasn't even playing in the second squad, he's only 17. But the two left-backs before him got injured. He's made a really good impression so far, considering he's only 17 and all of a sudden is needed. He made one huge error against Feyenoord a week ago, leading to a F'noord goal. But it was the type of error one can make when so young I think. I genuinely think he'll have learned from that.
It's bizarre to hear ManU think he can replace Evra in time; so many things that could go wrong still in his development. He's still quite 'shy' (or just cautious?) making the play himself, but for once there's a back at PSV who not only attacks decently but can actually defend. Which, in my eyes, is a quality so often overlooked for defenders, y'know, the actual defending.

Style of playA tactical player, Luiz is known for his flair, technique with the ball, powerful long-range shooting, tackling, reading of the game and an aerial threat in defence and attack. He has been harshly criticised while with Chelsea for his rash tackling and decision making at times, making him an inconsistent centre back. [24]On 01 December 2011, David Luiz was one of 55 nominees, and an undoubted favourite, for the FIFPro World XI team[25] . This naturally makes a mockery of some of the criticsm he has received from members in the English media.

so prolly no one here that cares much but the Mexican Apertura final last night was quite entertaining. Tigres won 3-1 at home after claiming the first leg 1-0 at Santos. extremely chippy, 3 sendings-off including the Santos keeper (the odious Oswaldo "Dirty" Sanchez). it's the first title for Tigres in something like 29 years so they're loving it.
― tumblr whineys (Cuauhtemoc Blanco), Monday, 12 December 2011 18:26 (twelve years ago) link
I've been meaning to learn more about Mexican footy for a while, because it's an absolute black hole as far as Britain is concerned, other than Hugo Sanchez and the recent few EPL imports I guess. I couldn't even've told you they did the apertura/clausura thing.
― Ismael Klata, Monday, 12 December 2011 19:12 (twelve years ago) link
Meantime, predictions for tonight? 1-2 I reckon, City hanging on a bit for the win. Hopefully via a JT screw-up for which he volubly blames Luiz.
― Ismael Klata, Monday, 12 December 2011 19:15 (twelve years ago) link
following/learning about the primera is hard even in the USA if you're a non-Spanish speaker. I constantly have to go to my Mexican-American friends to explain things. Goal.com has some good English coverage.
― tumblr whineys (Cuauhtemoc Blanco), Monday, 12 December 2011 19:17 (twelve years ago) link
I was actually watching the final w/ one Irish-American and one English expat, huge footy fans both, and they both agreed that Mexico is ripe for plundering as far as cheap quality signings goes. it's definitely a moneyed league but not one that is above selling.
