enh whineys basically right that the main demo for community is the sort of mildly overweight office worker dudes who think theyre so much so smarter and edgier than their coworkers cuz they love mnstrm indie rock and finished a whole palahniuk book once. like the kind of dude who wrote a ~hilarious~ and ~scathing~ rant on facebook when he found via an av club review that ppl still release music on cassette and who sneeringly calls like, decemberists fans 'hipsters'

its still a sometimes funnie show tho, unlike p+r

whiney attacking the show on a demographic level is hilarious because the shows he DOES like are in the exact same tumblr whites demo.

i think the suggestion is that palahniuk is avatar of a certain boringly predictable edginess, but that even that kind of edginess is a kind of edginess u can use as a marker to be all 'hey look at me being edgy from having read haunted'

for my part i prefer palahniuk's early work, and i also have a personal rule that any time i say that out loud i punch myself in the balls.

I honest to God don't mean this as a troll at all except for 100%, but at one point I also had a whole thing about how overly-enthusiastic appreciation of P&R and Community reflected the fundamental loathsomeness of AV Club reader/Videogum commenter/comedy podcast listener/@humblebrag follower/Louie screencap reblogger/bacon vodka infuser/Tom Scharpling music video enjoyer culture and then I got a job where they wouldn't let me work from home every day

there's def something about the tone sincerity of community and p&r and its fans "overly-enthusiastic appreciation" of said shows - i don't know that it is fundamentally loathsome tho + in general my life could use a little more sincerity and little less defensive snark
